  1. Update, removed the roof, sanded down the front doors and started drilling out some spot welds. Pictures http://www.dogsbodyoutsourcing.com/camp ... page_2.htm Anyone know how you do the inside of the air intakes? It looks like I need to cut a panel out to get in there. I’m not sure if it’s best to get in through the inside or not.
  2. I'm bringing this thread back from the past as I've now started striping my old gearbox. (need the 3.6 final drive for my 02J box) I'm doing okay so far, the flanges where a bit of an arse to remove but a big slap with a big hammer did the job in the end. :lol: I think there probably a better way of doing it though! :? I think I need to buy a 6mm spline drive to get the bolts in the picture out. Anyone know if that’s the tool I need?
  3. Nice one Henny! I've got a "Cool Air" catalogue which lists most panels. Its those headlight bowls pictured on my site that I cant find a easy repair panel for. Plans, The interior looked okay when it was in. But now its out and I've had a good look at it and its a bit shabby. The plan is to cut out new mdf or ply panels and cover them in a new Beach wood laminate. It should look a bit cleaner and modern. (if a little ikea) :lol: The exterior is going to remain two tone. Maybe a white top with the same blue as my golf bottom. But I would really like to do the bottom nimbus grey, top still white, wheels red with chrome hub caps and white wall tyres, red curtains, assorted other red detailing, quite a bit of new chrome and powder coating in the engine bay. Chrome engine bay bits are dirt cheap for these baby’s! Also, possibly a thin red strip between the grey and white paint. I don’t think there going to be much custom work done, like fitting early chrome bumpers or anything because of the cost. So fare the cost of buying all the tools, etc is going to mean that there won’t be much money for many mods. I've helped someone fit one back in before and it took about that to get into place. Apparently with the rear panel removed it can be done in 15mins!! 8)

  5. Nice one Bigben, will do! With the amount of welding I've got to do I should be fecking ace at it by the time it's finished! Then its time to unleash all the skills I've learnt onto something water cooled. ;-) EDIT* Ben16v I'll ring you tomorrow morning mate. You've missed most of the fun bits, riping stuff off and screw drivering pannels, etc. Engines got to come out but I was gonna angle grind the rear pannel to make it easyier. Got to borrow Sam's grinder first though! :lol:

  7. I know this may not be of interest to some. But for those that like all dubs I thought I'd start a small thread to show the progress of restoring a VW camper van. I think Henny has some experience of playing with these old air cooled dubs. I’ll probably need some advice at some point Henny. I've only posted a picture of its original condition and how it is today after two days work. For those who would like to see more I'll put more pictures on my server. I'll keep the pictures in this post to major developments only to save Corrado forum bandwidth. (Off to paypal to send Gav some cash) If anyone’s a bodywork specialist could you make yourself know as I need advice on buying a spray gun amongst other things, thanks!

  9. If that wasnt such an expensive car it'd be written off. I reckon if it was a Corrado with that much damage it'd be a write off. Just add up the cost of a new bumper, bonnet, wing, grill and headlights and your Corrado's a write off!! :lol: :lol: What sort of repair bill is he facing for that? Anyone want to hazard a guess? £5000 or more?

  12. The way the light is reflecting from around the rear lights is awful! Its like there filled with a bin bag pulled tight and then sprayed. For gods sake if your gonna do body mods get somone who knows what there doing to do it!! The moral of the story is if you want a seat ibiza, go buy one! Theres plenty on autotrader!!
  13. Is it me or is this guy an idiot! We've had a skip at our place because where doing up one of the holiday apartments. This guy turns up today to pick up the full skip, but he's brought an empty one along for the ride. As you can see he's stacked the empty one on top of the full one! I even went out and told him he could leave the empty one and come back for it if he wanted. He thought it was funny having it stacked up so high. Notice in the picture how the top skip is only fastened down with ONE measly strap! You should have seen it wobble!
  14. Cheers VEEDUBBED, I'll keep that in mind. I just paid £40 for a LHD Speedo cable from my local stealers. Not sure if that’s at a premium because of the LHD or not. striderwilson, sorry I cant remember the exact symptoms. All I know is that when going around a roundabout and the junction I wanted to leave came. I would have to wrench the steering wheel back the other way to get past the click.
  15. I didn’t think it was the steering rack. I thought it was a ball joint or something. But I took it to a garage and they were shocked at how bad it clicked. They where in no doubt that the steering rack was totally $&*(%£. I don’t know about adjustment sorry. I think mine would have been to far gone for that. If its something else apart from the steering rack wouldn’t you be able to feel movement by rocking a wheel with the car jacked up? If I remember rightly the click on mine was just before 2 o’clock as turning back to straight on. I can’t remember if it was both ways or not.
  16. While I was working out how to test it I found quite a bit of krud in the connecting socket. It could be because of its position that it’s quite exposed to road dirt. So maybe it did have issues before I messed around with it and cleaned up the contacts. I'll find out if its any different tomorrow when I go for a drive. :-) I hope this thread helps people who are trying to test there lambda. Even I worked it out eventually!! :lol: :lol:
  17. That click can get so bad that the steering almost locks and you have to give it some brut force to get past the click. Not a nice experience on a round about!! You've probably got a fare few miles to go until it gets that bad but I'd start budgeting for a new rack if I was you. At least you don’t have a LHD. I had quite a bit of trouble sourcing a mk2 LHD power steering rack.
  18. Right finally worked it out now! I'm getting a reading that cycles from 0.18 lowest to 0.89 highest over roughly a second. That means its okay and everything’s working correctly then, right? So it really does use that much fuel! :lol: Here's a picture of how I measured it.

  20. What do you mean exactly Henny? Do I have to leave the plug connected and just read from the wire? I am getting a reading like this with the plug disconnected but am unsure what to make of it. It started at 0.2 at idle but went really high when revving. Also as the engine warmed up the idle reading went up.
  21. Nice one! With the voltmeter set correctly (thanks golf_20v) I could only get a reading from the one you suggested Gaz. Think I’ve got it right now. Testing where the arrow points now.
