ABS Pedal distance sensor now obsolete... Grrrrrrr

They seem further up their own @rse then VW.

 

Classicparts.de. said no

 

Vw Heritage parts, said no

 

This is getting really serious, i have 1 more route to follow up..

Vince, have you tried Eurocarparts as they are an ATE dealer - they certainly do master cylinders and Bias valves which are the same as genuine.

 

Agreed this is getting ridiculous though, I thought it was only Corrado specific parts we'd have to be worried about - not safety critical parts fitted to a MK3 Golf!

 

I think this is where the CCGB really needs to step in and contact VW and at least get first refusal on parts that are about to go obsolete for members.

Spoke to the local guy here and he said you can still get them as part of the servo itself when you order a new one of those, only £358.........

It's an alternative but not acceptable in my opinion, VW claim (and proved) that their build quality is better than most other manufacturers.

Their cars do last a long time as we all know. Now the buggers don't want them to last that long. So what exactly do we pay for when we buy a new vw?

yeah, absolutely not an alternative Vince, its just so that they can say to us that its not actually unavailable even though, at those servo prices, basically it is.

 

but obviously another cynical step to profit from stocks of more expensive parts that include the small bit you actually need.

£358 for two bits of pressed steel tacked together? Are VW having an absolute f'in giraffe? :cuckoo:

 

Same with the track rollers for the windows. Used to be a few quid and stopped the rattley glass problem. Now they're only available as part of the entire £200+ motor mechanism.

 

Ditto with the Spoiler parts. You used to be able to buy some parts individually, now you have to buy the whole lot for a scarcely believable £450+VAT

 

I bet the sunroof repair kit is obsolete now too and you have to buy the whole subframe at £500+VAT?

 

Who ever is in charge of parts needs to be obsoleted pretty sharpish before there's nothing left.....

I've just got a new one of these recently, glad I did. I'll put my name down for one if you manage to get hold of any. Is there any way to repair an old one?

 

As said its a pretty shabby way to treat loyal enthusiasts to their brand and more than a bit worrying for us all.

What f@cks me off the most is how they ignore the enthusiast community at large.. But then when a new model like the Scirocco comes out and they want pristine examples to stick in dealer showrooms they're surprised they can't find many. No flipping wonder is it!

 

Be interested to know how this last avenue goes out Vince.. Otherwise am keen to know what else we can do.

 

Did someone not say a while ago that if a part is frequently looked up on the VW parts system, it can spur them into life to do another run of those parts? What if we ALL phoned our local vw dealers enquiring for price / availability on that part.. Wonder if they'd take notice?

How do beetle owners and karmann ghias still stay on the road all their parts must be obsolete now, hope an answer to this nightmare of a prob comes to light Vince, what about america any chance they will have any??

I bet Volkswagen's idea of a loyal customer is one that trades up to a new car every couple of years.

 

We're probably seen as a bit of a pain with our old cars, just want us all to have the shiny new models.

 

Hope a fix canbe found for this particular problem. I'd be up for a couple if it canbe solved.

the amount i've spent on spare parts though..

There are a fair few people maintaining ageing VW's.At least as many as other marques if not more surely...

Hmmm...

Time to wrap the car up in cellophane. :)

How do beetle owners and karmann ghias still stay on the road all their parts must be obsolete now, hope an answer to this nightmare of a prob comes to light Vince, what about america any chance they will have any??

 

There's lots of specialists who make replacement panels, rebuild engines, make replacement interior trim.. most of the mechanical stuff in these and especially the electronic stuff was pretty noddy compared to the stuff in our VW's (let alone what's out there in current stuff!!) so easier to replicate.

 

Panels, etc - yeah, sure we could get replacement panels made. But instrumentation, sensors, drivetrain, etc - we're pretty screwed once it all starts going obsolete.

 

You know how at aircooled shows they have piles of old rusty Camper and Beetle parts and people sort through them in the hope of finding a crucial piece to refurbish? I can't help but see it in our future..

yeah... but with only a few thousand carrados sold in the uk how many of those stalls do you think you'll be able to find!! :(

I'd be amazed if VW made the part themselves.

Won't it have been manufactured by Beru or Bosch or ANOther specialist electrical supplier?

Are there any tell-tale names/codes on the part?

ate are the manufacturer for the component, im just thinking what other sensors do we have on vw, that will fit,in which we may have to modify the sensor connection?

this is a real problem, and we def need a solution.

Then put in this part number in the parts code box 357927810. Click on VW on the page that comes up. They show they have them but they have different prices for the same part number?

 

I have emailed them but as yet there has beeen no reply
