430sh 10 Posted February 13, 2020 Afternoon! I have a vary late 1996 mystic blue vr6 storm, must be one of the last am guessing, 1 owner from new, (i never put it in my name) its been in my barn for 13 years, I pulled it out 6 years ago and got it going only needed a fuel pump, and it ran but was smoking whitish blue smoke quite bad, had every intention of doing something with it but it ended up going back in barn, is that a sign of head gasket? any ideas on the cost of doing it? is it worth doing??? any recommendations in the northwest who would want to take it on? thanks for your time!! I reckon that'll be a good project but will possibly need a fair few things replacing as it's been stood for 13 years. The blue smoke will probably be oil and white smoke could be coolant, so yes there's a possibility the engine might need looking at ? Si

fendervg 33 Posted February 13, 2020 Could be yet another Storm-a-like? Strange that the badges would be in the glove box. The best way to confirm would be to get in touch with VW and ask them to check the chassis number. Just because it's a 96 car doesn't necessarily mean it's on either - Storms weren't the last cars off the production line, and plenty of dealers were still selling off late 94 and 95 stock which wasn't registered until 96. I have heard before though that some buyers chose to go with Speedlines at time of purchase because they didn't like the Solitudes - I would probably have been one of them! 😉
430sh 10 Posted February 13, 2020 post isn't about if its a storm or not! wanted to know if anyone has any idea what a head gasket job would cost and/or if they can recommend any one to do the job! anyone???
Nmdsec 10 Posted February 13, 2020 So when you said “take this on” you didn’t mean it was for sale, you just want someone to fix it ?

James. 9 Posted February 13, 2020 Maybe an established VW specialist in your area ? (Being local helps if there's any come backs). Stealth Racing are recommended by many on here for their knowledge of the VR6 engine, if you can get it there (CV47 2PT).
Dox 23 Posted February 13, 2020 These cars tend to smoke when left standing for long periods of time, it may just need a good run
