i remember the quality SA in The Flora - still got that horrendous wallpaper? -
cheers g60dave, no the car is still on stilts :-) would the camber affect the position of the steering wheel though?
-
Ok , my steering has gone off whack - the steering wheel is rotated to the left when going in a straight line. It has had a new offside ball joint done recently as well as the caliper taking a few hammer whacks trying to get the caliper carrier off. So is the ' geometry' out? and what caused it? Should the guy who did the ball joint have done the alignment after the job? Or did I knock something out whilst trying to get the caliper off? More importantly what do I do next? Is it OK to drive? I can't hear any funny noises or anything.....

didnt get a manual mate! so you dont have to take anything out of one and swap it with the other light?
-
Hi all, I bought the Inpro headlights from Awesome - they said they were RHD ready - The car just failed the MOT again cos guess what theyre LHD (the light is slanting up toward the offside) Awesome have just cost me £40! the numptys - specifically Andy Anyone know how you convert them - ? The threads so far says you just need to do something to the bulb holders? Anyone got more details? Does the glass lens need to come off and do you have to swap the silvery units from one light to the other? How does this come out? Cheers Awesome havent heard the last of this, but when I have got my revenge they'll never again get my money

So, Asim is it going to be a Boxster S, Cayman or maybe the new RS4? -
I started on the nearside and managed to get the top bolt off but the carrier was making no effort to signal that a good beating may help...the second lower bolt was stuck pretty fast and TBH I was a bit worried about damaging the suspension setup by using too much hammer. I agree the welding idea is a good one but unfortunately I don't have a MIG handy :-(
-
well, I had no joy and my nice new brembo discs just sat in the cardboard box waiting anxiously. I had to put the worn pads back on and leave it after 4 hours. :-( I think I'm going to invest in a good breaker bar and try to use the grinder to refashion the hexbolt - should I try and make another hex or will a simple square suffice?
-
right, out comes the blowtorch then...

a couple of hours of swearing and skin shearing, will only result in a great deal of weeping, why oh why are things never straightforward, then I looked at my corrado and understood, that volkswagen have designed them I say so fools like us can't get in the way of the handsome profit VAG insist upon Oh look in my wallet! Its all completely gone They laugh and they joke and my plight they then teased, When they found out that my carrier bolts have seized! :-( How dos heating the bolt with a blowtorch make it easier to remove? wont it cause more expansion of the bolt than the hole?

mine is where your heated seat switches are and my seat switches are where your aircon is!

Once its failed, the computer has a record of it and therefore as RW1 says you can't go elsewhere to a 'mate', bung him a few quid and get a certificate becuse the original entry in the database has to be amended. The 'new' MOT certificate actually means less legally than before. Its just a record or receipt for your benefit - the actual report is held by ?VOSA or Dept of Transport - its them you contact if you want to verify a cars had an MOT now, rather than just asking to see the certificate.
-
You are probably right...still theyre picking up on stuff that you would have got away with before
-
OK, I don't know if this is a good idea or not but I thought it may be worth posting. Following my (1995) Corrado failure today, another 1995 VR6 failed on the same (seemingly trivial in the past) point. Tempest, you got me thinking that this new MOT is much more thorough and has to be inputted into the computer records. The implications are obvious for owners of older cars. Would it be worthwhile putting up reasons for failing the new test - so that other forum users can go in prepared - having sorted things that were tradtionally overlooked? Anyway mine failed on: 1. Offside headlamp too dim (with headlight loom!!) 2. nearside headlamp too low when centre of headlight measured 850mm from ground 3. suspension ball joint (I would have expected this to fail on the old test) Another forum user ( I hope you don't mind Rick) also failed his 1995 VR6 on point 2 as well today.

VR6 Hesitating / misfire at low revs [now fixed!]
STORM 2 replied to CorradoWannabe's topic in Engine Bay
Yep = plugs+leads first, but as youve probably seen during the search, there are a million plus reasons for this kind of behaviour. I would get it hooked up to VAG-COM, because a damaged coolant temp sender or similarly a damaged cam position sensor (both easy and cheap to replace) with play intermittent havoc with fuelling and the car will hiccup. I've been down this road, unfortunately and its best to exclude an easily diagnosed sensor fault and get it over with quickly. My problem was the cam position sensor in the end -
Sorry Rick, I do personally don't know, but you could probably raid the part from a used/smashed headlight. I can't get access to my other computer (ETKA) so I can't help, sorry
-
So the test is essentially much harder to pass for older cars then?
-
Coincidence or what? Mine failed today on exactly the same thing!! (plus others) Whats more, my height adjuster was also buggered - I did a repair job by pulling out the knob and sticking a thick rubber (tap) washer in between onto the thread. This levelled out the lamps. Im looking to replace them anyway with some inpros. BTW- Does anyone know if this is a clampdown due to the new MOT rules..ive been taking cars for MOTs for years now and they've never been this thorough....

double-6s, where's your abs light then?

Hi anyone recommend a dealer for BBS here in the UK? There seems to be a lot of BBS 'style' sellers out there, much less genuine sellers. I've given up trying to find reasonably priced RCs secondhand.. :(
