Ah that's good to know. Have you got any idea how much it would have cost to get one 'done by the book' and how much it is to have it done your way?
-
't has already been changed :)
-
Yeah I know it's gonna be mucho money, which is why it's going nowhere near my insurance. My premiums are high enough as it is and if I get it done myself I can choose where it goes. I've also still got my *cough* Corsa to get me to work
-
lol also notice my unintentional humour when naming those files. Well I guess you gotta laugh, otherwise you'll cry...
-
Yeah will do, I'll be making the embarrasing phone call to a few body shops too. Thanks for all your help Kev, you were fab, even if I am a nonce.
-
Yeah tell me about it. I blame Kev, I was following him at the time... Oh well, it's only money. On the plus side I do have a nice shiney new bearing for my serpentine tensioner :D
-
Well at least it means I can get the scuff in the bumper fixed on the cheap... just a shame it's going to involve about £2k of panel work to do so :(:(:(:(
-
Yeah it seems to just be panel damage, it was only at 20mph or so. But that rear quater aint gonna be cheap to fix
-
Ipswich roundabouts + lots of rain + idiot driver + cheapo budget tyres = Arse.
-
Yeah it does feel good, I didn't realise exactly how good it was til I had to get back in my *cough* Corsa and went "eewwwww nasty" :D
-
er, actually I did rub it in, but I'll try harder next time! I found it was very easy to use too much and end up with it everywhere, so I now spray it on to the cloth first, then rub it in.
-
Definitely agree. And yes all the other 90's coupe's were embarrasing to be even seen near, let alone getting out of :D Mind you, having been in both a Mk1 and Mk2 Elise, I would have to say that we aren't even close to the Lotus drivers for awkward/un-elegant dismounts  I guess it's a good reason to keep the suspension standard... it makes you look marginally more elegant when getting out!
-
It's a good point, but then he is a short arse :D I wouldn't say I look most elegant when getting out of my C, but then I am 6'2

Well in my first week of ownership I've bought... Brake disks all round Pads all round Front top mounts Rear bump stops Rear shocks Rear top spring plates Rear ABS cages Rear wheel bearings Rear axle bushes VR6 grille badge Serpentine belt 2x Lupo wiper arms Coolant sensor Oil temp sensor Breather valve Totalling £500 and something. I also need... New rubber all round (£290 for 5 RE-720's) Serpentine belt tensioner And that's just parts... most of it is getting fitted by me and my mate, but some of it (rear axle bushes, tyres) need to be done by a garage. So yay :D But hey, it'll handle like a dream after all this work :) Edit: Oh and money comes from my well paying job playing with cars :D

My top mounts were moving about as far as that and they had been listed as having 'excessive play' last time it was serviced, so I replaced them. I'm putting it all back together again tomorrow morning so I'll take pics of what brand new top mounts should look like with the same test. I'd say it could be worth replacing the top mounts, but as kevhaywire says, they *should* wear the same on both sides. Either way, if the top mounts are moving that much it won't be doing anything for your steering, mine was slopping all over the place so I'm hoping new ones will have fixed it. I'll let you know the verdict tomorrow, 'haywire engineering' is taking a look at it tomorrow evening too 8)

David Winter, Same buttons that I've got on mine. Without the optional toasty bum controls as well though :) G60Renshaw, if you can supply all the required bits and bobs needed to fit the climatronic, how difficult is it to actually install?
-
DanA, if you're tyre pressures are even side to side then you should be ok. To check your top mounts, put your car somewhere flat. Then pop the bonnet and get someone to move the steering lock-to-lock. If the top mounts move enough to get yer finger in there then they need replacing. Similarly, if one moves a lot more than the other, then you need to replace both of them (always do things relating to suspension in pairs!). Good luck. If you do need to do your top mounts it's not a hard job and they're only £11ish each from GSF, I just did mine and it'll take you 3-4hrs tops with the right tools. PM me if you need help.

Now I like the sound of that :D Would be a nice upgrade to my air con :)

Works good for me :) Some very nice looking C's there I must say! I'm glad to see that the headlight washers still provide entertainment too :D -
Well I just finished doing my *cough* Corsa with a Meguires Quik Clay bar and blimey it's good! Made the manky tree sap soaked sand paper of paintwork go to near enough glass finish (it would have been perfect if I could be bothered to put the elbow grease in). The amount of gunk coming off the paintwork after I'd already washed it was amazing. It's highly recommended. I also did the detailing with the NXT Tech stuff and that's damn good stuff too. Oh and it all smells really nice too :)

Still makes me smile every time I load up this thread :D

Type in VR6 into the model list mate and watch that list shrink - I get 5 for sale within 60 miles!!! Yeah and the ones on there are either dogs or don't stay up for more than a couple of days.

I'm going to be replacing my rear disks, pads, bearings, shocks and top spring plates soon. As I'm going to be in there anyway, how many bushes (and where?) are there and any idea how much that lot costs? Which parts are best to get VAG and which ones can I get from GSF without sacraficing performance? I've already got the disks, pads, bearings, ABS cages, shocks, bump stops and top spring plates. I also have the rear axle bushes that are waiting to go on as/when I can afford the labour.
