And I thought I was a clean freak!
-
Fair enough, AutoGlym stuff it is then :D Lookin good Scott but err where's your front grille?
-
Or you could just chuck a couple of litres of petrol over the engine bay. Cleans most stuff off :D I wouldn't try and start your car for a few hours after tho :)
-
Yeah likewise. If I run out of other things to do I may consider cleaning my engine bay, but it'll be with a bottle of GUNK and some quiet time with a toothbrush I think.

Oh I appreciate that these kits were *designed* to give better performance and the sound they make is secondary. However, asking what will make your G60 make some noise seems a bit silly. Surely you want to ask which mods are going to improve your performance, and sound a bit good too? If you want more noise, hack a hole in the exhaust :D

I'd make sure all your electrics are fully insulated and sealed before you go steam cleaning... Not sure about the upholstery... I bought some Autogly Interior Shampoo instead.
-
 Sorry I missed that. I guess I have to take a star off my geek badge now :(
-
Heh heh ok, I'll take your word for it, but only cos your C is so nice :D Just seems like the priorities are all wrong...make it go quick, then if it sounds good then cool. Otherwise if you just make it sound good and you get blown away it's a bit embarrasing :D

As can be heard outside your local McDonald's car park any Friday/Saturday night  Look for the Saxo/Nova/Corsa crowd :)

*doh* I did a search and found out you can get it off a Galaxy, didn't see that thread tho. Thanks for the help tho guys :D

Hi guys, I need to get a new breather valve for my VR and I know you can get just the valve from Ford, but when my spanner man went to see them they couldn't find it on their system. So does anyone have the Ford part number for a VR6 breather valve from a VR6 Galaxy?

I'd like to point out this isn't a VX220, more a 1.8 L Reg Cav with an interesting rear wing mod :D
-
I used Sheppards in Bishops Stortoford, never called them before in my life, mentioned I had a CCGB membership and gave me parts club prices on applicable items and 10% on everything else. They're really really really nice guys and extremely helpful :)

I just did my first mod - Lupo wipers... well it woulda been if they had more than one in stock lol. Works a treat, even if it does look a little gay :D £16.49 + VAT each inc discount from the stealers.

Err it's fun, but it's not good driving. You should never brake and turn at the same time unless you're trying to get the back out. Even if the wheels don't lock you're shoving all the weight forwards and off the rear wheels... which means no traction and an appointment with a nice hedge/signpost/other hard object. It is useful for emergency braking to avoid the idiot that just did something stupid in front of you. You can bury your foot in the carpet and still concentrate on avoiding them rather than not skidding.

Save the effort and spend the money on some advanced driving lessons. Same effect and you have a laugh instead of hours of cursing :)

Aftermarket suspension is pretty expensive, especially compared to standard. A decent set of coilovers will cost you in the region of £600. They will all give you a firmer ride than standard, but it depends on which setup you get. According to the guys on here the 2 recommended setups are FK Konigsport coilovers or Koni shocks with H&R springs (not coilovers, separare shocks and springs). Edit: I'd like to point out my zero knowledge here, just going by what people on here have said and basic knowledge of physics :D
-
Ok, first up, please take Caps Lock off. It looks like you're shouting. Second... Coilovers do 2 things which are related. They lower the height of the car, but to do this they need to have stiffer springs and uprated shocks to make sure that you don't go contstantly grounding your car. The stiffer suspension will also help with the handling as the car won't roll around as much. From the sounds of things, you have your original shocks with lowered springs. This is the worst of both worlds as the shocks will keep bottoming out and cause a horrid ride and seriously shorten the life of the shocks.

Well I can try it, if they move then I know they're dead... if they don't then they can wait for a bit :)
-
Ah ok, mine's done just under 80k so hopefully they're ok for now :)
-
lol, I think I'll leave em for now. I've already spent £450 on parts this week and I still need to get a full set of boots (5x RE-720's = £288), and possibly labour to do the rear axle bushes. I'll drive it with new top mounts for now as I'm sure it will make a huge difference. Then I'll worry about fine tuning the handling later. Oh and I also need to sort out my starting problem. I *hope* it's just a dead sensor, but Mr. Haywire is going to give it the once over with VAG-COM to find out about that.
-
They move around a lot? The whole top mount moves a good cm and a bit when you put the wheels lock to lock. They were also flagged up in 2002 as having 'excessive play' and no indication of them being replaced since. Is it likely that I need ball joints too?
-
Yeah my front shocks seem fine from a pushing down and watching it bounce view. However the top mounts are so shot that it's impossible to tell what's going on down there while driving. It feels truly horrid, and it's downright scary at any kind of speed, you have no idea where the car is going to go. This weekend's mission is to do the front top mounts and, as I've got the struts off the disks and pads as well. One of the rear shocks is urinating itself as well, so that'll be off the weekend after (with new disks and pads back there too). Hopefully after that lot I'll be able to drive it properly and find out if the rear axle bushes need doing as well. Oh yeah and I need to do the serpentine belt as well, just as soon as PhatVR6 gets his spare tensioner back.
-
 already bought it all. GSF front top mounts GSF rear bump stops VAG rear shocks VAG rear axle bushes (not sure if they need doing just yet, but I figure it's only a matter of time). All that lot for a lot less than a pair of after market shocks ;) But I have gone for the VAG disks/Pagid FR pads combo you recommend :D
