  1. Er it's the arm you want to replace, you can then use either Lupo blades or Corrado ones (you need to drill one of the holes out to do it). Have a look at http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... &start=260
  2. I'm gonna get a toothbrush on my original keys and clean out the VW logo...does that count as a mod? :D
  3. My best response so far was from an admiring neighbour who was looking my C over while I was washing it.... "ooh that's a nice little motor you got there"... gets round to back of car "bugger me VR6, so err not such a little motor then! I bet that shifts a bit" :D
  4. See that's what I thought, but I didn't see any other Pagid FR pads on their list... and looking at the site again now I can't see any FR pads listed for the Corrado. I think I'll call them instead, see what they say.
  5. I just want to check, I'm going to do an order with GSF for the Pagid FR pads... are the pads with cat. number 64326F the right ones for both front and back on my VR?

Hmm... could be very expensive then. I might have a go at doing some of the work myself first and just get them to do the rear axle bushes and injectors. The shocks seem fine, but it's hard to tell with the top mounts slopping all over the place. I'll give em a call and see what they say.

Thanks for that Blair, sounds like a bit more work that I was planning. I don't trust VAG to do anything other than an oil change so I can get the stamp in my service book :D I'm planning on a trip up to Stealth anyway, so I'm tempted to just say to them 'err fix it all' and give them my credit card. :D  well maybe get a quote first. Sounds like it's going to be an expensive week!
  8. It doesn't inspire confidence that the original alarm/immobiliser has been taken out and a new one fitted. The new one stops you from even turning the engine over if you haven't dearmed it. There could be something fishy going on with the removed immobiliser I guess :( I'll get the injectors done first and see what happens, if it doesn't solve the start problem it won't do any harm.

Yeah they're not, unless you can get a set of platinums for £24. I think I'll change the fuel filter, coolant sensor and plugs and see what happens. If it solves it, then cool, if not it's an injector rebuild. I'm thinking a trip to Stealth to get everything else checked over is probably a good idea too. I'll do what I can first then see though.
  10. Oh ok, phew. I was expecting well into triple digits. I need to find somewhere round here that is good. I *can* make the almost 2hr journey up to Stealth, but it's a bit of a mission. Would be nice to get them to check over my new C tho.
  11. Yeah I'm starting to think that mine probably needs the injectors rebuilding... :( How much did it cost you and where did you get it done?
  12. Has anybody got any suggestions for a plastic restorer that I can use on my door handles that have faded to grey?
  13. I'd just like to give my VR the once over on VAG-COM... anyone in the Cambridge-Stortford type area that I could come pay a visit to? If you have a VR too then even better, cos I'd like to compare a few things :D Thanks
  14. To be honest, I've only turned it on once and as I'm not keeping it in there it doesn't bother me too much at the moment. I'll get a decent head unit and plop it in then go from there. In the mean time I can cope with listening to the VR and I need the money to make sure it's all running nicely.
  15. Ahh very clever, them sneaky Germans :D Cool, a clay job and depending on money, Swissol is on the books so hopefully that'll be sorted out. I thought they probably would be, just not seen anyone mention it in the many petrol discussions. should be a useful pic for illustration in the future :D Yeah they are pretty much, there are a few more tiny dings, but they're only noticable if you really look hard, so I'm pretty chuffed on the whole :D
  16. So after spending 4hrs cleaning her, NOW you tell me this :D  The seats need a shampoo anyway, so I might as well take em out, then I can get a good go at vacuuming the carpet and it's a lot easier to clean the seats too. In fairness today's efforts were on the paint and wheels. The only problem is you can now see how bad the scrapes are, and made even worse by the wax in them :( Hmm managed to take pictures of the scrapes, but forgot to take ones of the whole car to show how clean it is  oh well it's in the garage now and I'm too knackered to go move it back out and take pics.

Yeah this forum is definitely invaluable, I've been on here for a few months now so I knew most of the things to look out for, but it's a whole new matter when you have a car of your own. The search feature is worth is weight in gold (hmm how much does it weigh?) Luckily my best friend is building a mental kit car so he has a full set of good tools and knows a thing or 2 about spannery, so I'm covered there. metman, yes this is definitely the part you can get from Ford for £15. Yes that serpentine belt is on it's way out, you need the tensioner to go with it, which is indeed the one PhatVR6 can supply in all it's blingtastic glory :D (or you can have a non-bling one if you ask nicely) From what I can see, the AC runs off the same belt, so hopefully it's just the one that needs replacing. Also I noticed that my spark plugs were replaced about 23k miles ago... so they could be responsible for the gammy start up? I'll whip them out and have a look to see if they're ok to rule another aspect out.

Did some research today, the top strut mount kits (mount & bearing) is £11 from GSF so that's all good. Any bushes I should replace while I'm in there?
  19. Interesting development... seems that the original head unit has been kept and replaced as I have a Kenwood head unit manual in with my service history :) Makes me feel better about taking it out and putting a decent one in. I'm a little worried at how tremendously crap the head unit sounds... sounds like only the dash tweeters are working, but there is definitely sound coming from the door speakers too. Hmm, put the new head unit in and see what it sounds like methinks. (And yes I'll be careful not to toast the speed sensor!)

    BUYING VR6

The timing chains are worth checking, but that's easy - if they rattle considerably at 1-1.25k then it's a good £600 for a new set and labour. Also watch for smoke. Pretty much any smoke out of a VR is not good news and could mean that it's suffering from bore wear (especially on 100k + ones), which is a few grand and a new engine sir. For your own piece of mind, it's also worth going through the service receipts and seeing what work the car has had done already. A 100k miler might be worth more if it's already had rear axle bushes (£300ish inc labour), new suspension bits generally, timing chains etc done. Similarly if there is a lower milage one that's had diddly squat done then it's going to almost certainly need it doing soon. Most of the parts that need doing are rubber or plastic based so their condition is more age dependant than milage. However, it's not all bad as long as you take that into account when making an offer. My C needs new rear bushes, which is a pain, but it's also good because it will mean I'm going to be driving it on brand new ones! From the Corrado's I saw you can tell pretty much straight away if you've got a dog or not. The first 2 I went to see were awful, the one I ended up buying just felt right. Yeah it needs a damn good clean and a few parts but it's otherwise in damn good condition. What ever you do, don't expect to buy it and that be the end of your spending. You WILL have to spend more on the car, so have a peruse through the forum to see what things cost and be prepared. Good luck mate! You'll be cackling like an idiot as soon as you drive one :D
  21. Welcome to the club, I just got a VR of similar mileage as well :D Must be a good week for it! Can't help you with most of it because I'm still learning too, but I'm having the same starting joys. See my thread here for how that progresses. The uprated headlight loom is designed to work with the existing bulbs, it's just more efficient at getting the juice to them so you get less voltage drop and a brighter light. H100VW (Gavin) does a good uprated headlight loom for £50 :D

Ok time for bed as I've got a long day of cleaning ahead of me tomorrow, but thank you very very much for all your help guys. Beers all round at the next meet/time I see you :D
  23. Oop, rodney just realised you're the person who PM'd me about the Camb mini-meet.

I'll be ordering lots of stuff (almost £200!) so hopefully they'll be nice to me... :D Would help if I had my CCGB membership card/number tho :( Oh well I'm going to leave it another week before I order stuff yet because my credit card needs to resuscitate first :D Back to front top struts... what parts/cost involved with doing that? Oh and any photo's for the oil temp sensor? Sorry! I think that I'm done then. Just needs a few phone calls to get it all sorted. I've got a parts list totalling £600ish at the moment. And that doesn't include the Swissol Shield kit that I'd rather like.
  25. Craziness... and on further inspection my excess is actually £500... :(
