Shrek Manifold ! Throttle body gas flow! LPG Corrado VR6
dinkus replied to Johnboy98's topic in Engine Bay
Erm yeah, it's good for a short time, but the white spirit will destroy pretty much everything after a while. The easiest option is to use straight Canola oil and all you need is a heater on the fuel line to thin it up before it hits the injectors. Apart from it being 'cheaper' than mineral diesel, the good thing about using veg oil is that it actually has better engine lubrication properties than mineral diesel. Beware of some filling stations that sell 'Bio Diesel TM' tho. It's got maybe 5% veg oil in it (so you get the lubrication) and the rest is mineral diesel. And it costs more than standard diesel  If you're really keen, you can recycle used chip fat from your local chippy, get the fatty acids out of it and you're laughing. It requires some filtering and chemical jiggery pokery before it's safe to use in your engine though. The only bugger about using veg oil is you are still supposed to pay fuel tax on what you use making it not a lot cheaper than standard diesel. Still takes money out of the big oil, Bush funding gits pockets though :D I did quite a bit of research on what was the best type of veg fuel to run a car on a while ago, so if you're interested in converting a car, the Bio Power group seem to make the best combination of new and used veg fuels that you can use. It seems to only be available in Wales at the moment, but it's a good source of info, maybe you can set up your own filling station with it :D Interesting last point - the diesel engine was originally designed to run on ANY oil, the first engine that Mr. Diesel made actually ran on peanut oil. It was only after a few years when the big oil companies realised that they could sell some of their crappy by-product as diesel fuel that it all went down hill. IIRC Brazil even have veg oil filling stations. -
They're from an A4, but they're complete custom jobs that involved much plastic (and car!) chopping to fit. zarman did a guide on the Corrado Club of Canada site here though Indeed it is, it's also the car with the gargantuan intercooler and crazy pipework. It is currently running 15lb of boost, but was running 20lb on an every day basis before the guy bought it. Good for something like 300hp apparently :D

yeah I know, I almost peed myself  almost 50 cars turned up in the end and from all over the place, not just Toronto.
-
I dunno if you guys are interested, but I thought I'd post anyway... pics from this weekends meet on vwvortex http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1424171 Some nice cars there and we got fantastic weather... I just need to ge back to England and buy a C now!
-
nooo don't do that cos then you KNOW you'll have a bad mum in a big SUV with 3 kids and a run away trolley next to you. Park next to a wall. And employ an armed guard
-
The Corrado is expensive to run compared to say a Vectra. But it's hardly a Vectra and if you compare it to cars of similar performance/age then it's about average, if not cheaper. Just don't expect it to run without any TLC :) RX-8's look nice, but they're like a rash. You get a Corrado to be a little different. I reckon the RX-8 is gonna be like the MX-5 soon :D Oh and dr_mat, who uses a base of 1/10 pence?? ;) and I thought I needed to get out more

What is this an why is there water pissing out of it??????

 well hey that's got to be one advantage of owning a C :D -
Yuk yuk for pure comedy value you need a Panda 4x4... :D I like the idea of a group project C, but you know it would end up being only a few people that did all the work. Mind you if everyone contributed financially it could be a very cool idea. Especially with those knackered C's floating round at the moment that are destined for the big scrapyard in the sky. We could do a group buy for one, restore it, shove a TDi in it, take it to some shows and sell it on. Safe in the knowledge that we would have preserved a C for future enjoyment. The only problem is, you need to get a way of making money out of it, or at least breaking even... not sure how that could happen. Any suggestions?

Essex, the most speed cameras in the country, and.......
dinkus replied to kvwloon's topic in General Car Chat
In fairness they usually put speed cameras on straight roads by junctions. You need to be able to see a very long way to be able to pull out of a junction and get from 0-60 and if people are doing 80+ down there then you get accidents. Some areas would certainly benefit from a road layout change, but for a cash strapped council, it's much better from their point of view to spend a few hundred quid and plop in a speed camera that makes money rather spending thousands on re-doing the road. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't like speed, but there's a time and a place and a public road isn't the place. That being said, you can still have a lot of fun within the speed limit on twisty roads and there should be more lenience in the law for those speeding when it's not dangerous. -

ooh I got a star (sorry just realised :D) Yeah uninsured people do my head in. When I was living in Bromley I was sitting in my room and heard a smash outside... someone had ploughed into the back of someone else, as I looked out they just reversed and squealed off around the corner. Poor woman got her small child out of the car and started crying. Made me smile when someone came out with a piece of paper with the cars reg on it tho :D Getting away with any 'crime' is annoying, especially when you get prosecuted for innoculous (sp?) offenses like speeding. I think the tax check is probably a good thing, cos they can still check if you have valid tax, but it makes it harder for the illiterate inbreds to get away with avoiding it. -
 I'm drawing up my budget for the joys of buying a house... I'm allowing for £2k to get thrown at the C a year, plus MOT, tax, insurance, petrol. But on the bright side if you spend that much you shouldn't have to do it again for another 10yrs or so.

If the mechanic thinks it's ok now then you're probably safe from anything major going soon, the best way to find out is to drive it. If it feels right then go with it. I make that just shy of £4.3 billion... (unless you're using signed numbers then it's only £2.2 billion) oh man I need to get out more

The thing is, those knobbed up Corsa's don't go that quick, they're just driven by complete morons. Just cos you're not breaking the speed limit doesn't mean that you are driving safely and vice versa. If anything, speed cameras on fast roads are probably just as dangerous as not having them, firstly it's another obstacle to wrap your car round, but more importantly people brake for them causing traffic to bunch up. I actually don't mind speed cameras in most places because I don't speed when there's a likelyhood some tosser is going to walk out infront of me. Motorways and roads that you know well are fair game for speeding. The main issue is to improve driving standards. You do not have a right to drive, if you're a liability you should be banned until you improve. If you're involved in a crash where you were being a dick, the police should make you do some track days and advanced driving courses. You learn how to handle your car better, you learn how to avoid accidents by paying more attention, you get to take out your speeding needs in a safe® environment and above all they're fun :) If they pay for them too, then even better! :D -
Apparently the Passat handles are slighly less prone to snapping like the C ones do, but the primary reason is cost. You can fit either front or rear Passat handles, but you need a complete set of mechs as well as the handle. Most of this including part numbers is covered in the De-locked handles thread (also includes locked handles) here - http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5631

Here's me trying to look cool on the subway... don't usually dress like that, but the hair is usually the same :D
-
Yeah this one was for you chimo :D lol. I was surprised by the number of mental Jap import type cars in Vancouver, all with street racing website stickers in the windows too It's quite good the police are making an effort, but they really should have gotten a Type-R imported specially :D See you on the 28/29th ;) I'm getting excited already and I don't even have a C yet lol.
-
ZackM8, heh heh ok I'll let you off :) The best way to go quicker is to do some track days. Seriously. If the cars are evenly matched performance wise then it's down to the driver and you'll be amazed how quickly you can stop and get round corners with some practice.
-
I'm certainly no pro, but I'd say it's probably worth at least £500 if you break it. It's a shame to kill it, but it looks like it's been neglected for a while and although the mileage isn't bad you're gonna have to spend a lot on that to get it nice again. Henny didn't mention the full respray it'd also need.... It'll cost you more to get that one looking nice again than to buy a fully functioning one, but if you have the heart and wallet for it then restore it and keep another C alive :D

we know what you drive and what you do!but how old are you??
dinkus replied to vr6storm's topic in General Car Chat
22, have a 2000 Corsa Sxi with a mighty 1.2 (not my choice!!!!) that I'm trying to get rid of then I'll be gettin a nice VR6 and attending some track days :D Oh and insurance on the C looks like it'll be £1200 with no NCB (dad's policy before). -
yeah chimo, the prices were getting hiked in BC when I was in Vancouver and they were all crying like babies that the fuel was almost at the $1 CAN mark. " I can't drive my big SUV any more :(" I was sitting there going... hmm so the exchange rate is about 2.3 $ to the £ at the moment... Yay for not driving SUVs, but at least they were all getting worked up about the price hike, which is what we should do. It's especially annoying as the government stick stinky, polluting, empty buses onto the roads while we all drive some of the most fuel efficient cars availabe (ok VR6 isn't a good example ;)). While we're on the fuel issue, despite what the oil companies say, hydrogen is actually just as polluting as petrol, if not more so. Ok the car itself is cleaner so the cities get nicer, but how do you get the hydrogen? Either from electrolysis from coal powered electricity, or by steaming natural gas. The most environmentally firendly thing you can do is shove a Diesel in your C and run it on bio waste :) http://www.bio-power.co.uk/ you still legally have to declare what you buy and pay fuel tax on it, but it means the oil companies aren't getting more money to fund Bush (and subsequently Blair) with :D It's made from old chip fat oil that usually just gets ditched somewhere, it doesn't use fossil fuels, and it gives you the same 'performance' as a standard diesel engine. Ok it's still an oil burner, but it's a start.
-
Do they come complete with a kit that stamps the brake pedal to simulate numpty gear changes as well? :D

:lol::lol::lol:

If you're only interested in standing quater times why did you get a Corrado... all that lovely chassis and suspension work gone to waste :( Might as well buy an American car ;)

This war or terror is annoying the poop outta me. Even if you lived in the USA on the day of 9/11 you were still more likely to get hit by lightening than you were to be killed/injured by terrorist activity. Ok, 3,000 people died, it's not pretty. But they've already killed over 50,000 Iraqi's (not sure exactly how many, they don't bother keeping track). Surely they're even now? And yeah the Welsh Police are being stupid. It's a rally event that's bringing money and people to the area, don't make your country look like tits by fining people. If it was the Gumball I could understand it, but these are some of the best drivers in the world.
