  1. you mean a faulty rack itself, or the mounts?
  2. Hi folks. I've noticed that lately on my G60 the steering seems to 'drift' when going around a corner. very difficult to describe, but basically what happens is when you turn in, it'll go where you want, but then with the steering wheel in the same position, the car un-steers itself (or goes more straight), so you have to steer further in to remain on the same line. when you've finished turning the wheel will be centred at a different angle than it was before you started turning, so it's not the tracking (otherwise, as i understand it, it'd be off consistently?) I'm flummoxed! I've checked the power steering fluid, and that seems fine - I did notice that both the track rods and the track rod ends look fairly rusted while I was changing the front brakes. Would it be a good idea to get these changed? Could it be something like the actual rack mount rubbers letting go and letting the rack itself move slightly? Cheers for the help! Dave
  3. Saw a dark blue VR6 at the Nurburgring on wednesday last week, driven by a girl. UK spec and plates, so maybe someone on here? Walked over to say hello as my G60 broke down in Belgium on the way, but she didn't get out of the car! I can't remember the reg, but I'll be able to get it, it's on the video I took of my mate going around in his MX5.
  4. Picked up a pair of pioneers from Amazon, and I've got sound! I'll look at sorting the rears out once im back from the nurburgring, but i think they may just want fiddling with, fairly certain its a bad earth. For reference, the door speakers are 5.25" :)
  5. Mine hasn't got that fancy leather interior, but those pics definitely helped. Multimeter was showing signal to the door speakers, so looks as though they're just dead. Not surprising, considering they appear to be the original ones! (VW stamped on the back of them). What size are the door speakers?
  6. That was me! You'll see me most evenings on the way home from work :D
  7. Typical. How bad is it to take the door cards off? I've spied a screw on the edge where the latch is, I'm presuming theres more holding it on than that?
  8. The dash speakers are definitely wired in properly, i remember plugging two plugs in when putting the dashboard in. I'll take a look at the door speakers this afternoon once I've serviced the car, are they easy enough to remove?
  9. Hi folks, just got a tape adaptor for my C and noticed that both the door speakers and my offside rear speaker doesn't work - both dash tweeters and the passengers rear do, but obviously this leaves the sound quality lacking! Any ideas where to start trouble shooting?
  10. Same here! Word of warning, all the paperwork is in German, but ive found an english translation of it. If you PM me your email I'll forward it along :)
  11. I might be up for this depending on the date and if my G60 explodes on the nurburgring!
  12. Just joined ADAC myself, no issues, happy to take me even though i live in the uk. Just give them a call on this number 0049 221 47 27 47
  13. Hi folks, any ideas for european breakdown cover for my G60? It's a J reg / 1991, so 24 years old, and all the usual suspects won't touch it due to age. Cheers, Dave.
  14. Hi folks. My G60 finally lives, and I've booked my ferry to take her around the Nurburgring late in may. Obviously, I don't want to be charged anything for accidentally spilling fluids on the ring itself. (around 1200 euros per half hour the tracks is closed.) My oil feed pipe has just sprung a slight leak and while I'm changing that, i wondered if there were any other pipes that would be advisable to change while I'm fiddling about in the bonnet?
  15. Rule one: check the fuse. :( oh well. Easy fix! Strange that the spoiler and sunroof worked though...
  16. Hi folks. Got my G60 finally up and running (after a larger than anticipated MoT bill, bloody welding!) Ready to take it on its shakedown run, but I could really do with the cig lighter working (and the interior lights would be nice too). As far as I can tell, they're both done on the same fuse, which also does the sunroof and the rear spoiler, however both those work fine. Any ideas? (I've checked the interior light bulb and that's fine, just doesnt come on no matter what position) Cig lighter has nothing coming from it even with ign on and engine running : Any help?
  17. Nice to see another 'do around yorkshire! I'll be moving westwards (from York proper) soon (probably around castleford area). Not my cup of tea but looks to be looked after! There appears to be quite a few of us around yorkshire - we'll have to arrange a meet at some point (once my G60 is on the road... ;))
  18. Jamiehamy: I'm fortunate that i've got a replacement axle to fit bushes to before fitting the axle complete to the car. How does your one work then, surely it tilts the bushing as it goes in?
  19. I've already checked and my local VW doesnt have the tool to do it! :(
  20. Hi folks - need to change the rear axle bushes in my G60. Has anyone got the special tool VAG 3111 that I need that I can borrow/rent for a few days? Failing that, is there any way to change them without the tool? Cheers.
  21. Hi folks. I'm in the process of replacing pretty much the entire suspension of my G60, but I'm struggling with standard springs for it. they're obsolete from VW as far as I can tell, and I can only find rear ones for it from the likes of Euro Car Parts and the rest. Any ideas? I'm after a pair of front springs mainly, as they're in worse condition, but if I had to i'd buy a set of 4.
  22. Hi folks, figured I best start a build thread considering I'm hoping to have my rust bucket up and running by the end of the month. She's become known (somewhat affectionately) at work as the Corrodo, due to a certain amount of rust that was on there when I bought it. I've always liked the styling of the Corrado, and while I was looking for a reasonably fun second car, a friend at work mentioned one of his friends had one for sale. One visit to see it and I'd caught the bug! left after bartering a bloody excellent deal, and then just had to work out how to justify it to the wife! Here she is as she was when I got her: http://imgur.com/a/cbLi6 She's clearly been loved by the previous owner - loads of history, some spares in the boot (including a full spare spare BBS alloy wheel (the normal 'spare' is a full BBS alloy too, so that makes 6 total!) good tyres all around and a lovely little notebook which the guy had written down the mileage dates and quantities of all his petrol to work out the MPG. It's this stuff that clued me in it'd be worth a punt at making it road legal again. Once I got my grubby mits on it, I took it to see a mechanic friend and put it up in the air to see what it might need. front subframe was knackered, heater matrix had gone, rear axle had seen much better days brakes on all four corners were either seized or generally poor. There's a bit of rust on the OS sill near the A pillar, and both wings needed changing, ideally. Oh, and it had a massive battery drain (most likely due to the aftermarket alarm system on it) - so bad it had a battery isolation switch in the engine bay). I managed to find a good condition front subframe on ebay and managed to get that fitted (with the help of aforementioned mechanic friend) and then set about trying to change the heater matrix. People who have done it without removing the dash, I salute you. you must be bloody contortionists to be able to do that. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and a helpfull phonecall from the brilliant John Mitchell of JMR) I decided to bite the bullet and remove the dash. "At least then I can take the crappy alarm system out while I'm there!" Thinks I. The horror of the rats nest of wiring awaited me. http://imgur.com/a/cbLi6 I was very lucky - the alarm had already been deactivated, so it didn't 'work', however the battery drain was still there. After a nerve wracking weekend - where I found out that if the dash panel isn't connected, the car wont start, it's not that you've cut the wrong wire - I managed to get the old alarm system removed, the heater matrix changed, and everything back together. Once that was done (and while the dash was out) I removed the floor carpets in preparation for welding on the sill, and to give them a bloody good wash. If you've not washed your carpets before, please, do it. I managed to borrow the industrial pressure washer from work, and using a very low heat (30 degrees for synthetics, just like the washing machine) I started work. Two rinses with water only to remove the 20 years of accumulated dirt and grime, then copious amounts of fabric cleaner, scrub that in, then rinse out, wet vac to get the worst of the water out, and leave it somewhere warm until its dry. I've not put the carpets back in yet as I'm waiting on someone to weld the sill for me, but they're easy enough to remove. As it stands at the moment, I've started changing the brake components - the rear brake discs and pads have been changed for new, and the calipers have been changed for the Mk4 golf ones. The front brakes are sat in the boot, as I tried to change them the other weekend and found the caliper carrier was fused to the hub carrier on the nearside. Fortunately, the nearside hub carrier/knuckle is available still from VW, and that's arrived safe and sound now. I've also got new front wheel hubs, bearings, shock absorbers and top mounts ready to fit this weekend - While cosmetically it may be wanting, mechanically it'll be as good as new. Remaining jobs - Change the fuel tank staps (rusty!) Change the rear axle and fit new bushes into the new(er) axle. Finish painting the OS front wing Weld a patch onto the OS sill Replace the bonnet cable replace the front carpets and fit new underlay (andele andele ariba ariba!) which VW Heritage happily release just as I needed it. Drill out centre headlight screws to change a few bulbs (and properly fit uprated headlight loom) Save up money for a charger rebuild (just to be on the safe side) I'm debating changing the rear shock absorbers too, just to be thorough, but I'm still undecided on that. I'm taking it on a trip to the Nurburgring later this year with a group of friends, one of whom has a Peugeot 405 Mi16, which will be interesting to see how they both fair! I'll try and keep this thread updated as I go, but I didn't think to take pictures of most of the work as I was doing it. cheers all, Dave
  23. I found one on eBay for a reasonable price, was in much better quality than my old one! Worth a check. They're about €430 from classis parts (plus postage) which as mentioned isn't too bad.
  24. Hi, how do I go about ordering an underlay kit?
  25. Brilliant! How's that for timing? Fortunately my carpet itself is alright. Pressure washer, fabric cleaner, then carpet black and it's looking as good as new. :)
