Igot this the other day on my G60! Will probably hit 200k in the new year or so. Perils of using it as a daily driver.

No worries, I'm trying to keep an eye out on requests like this, I can't get them but Heritage can.

Did they definitely say they could get one? Only I've just checked (because I've never heard of a 'dashpot' before!) and they're showing as obsolete since march last year!

JMR did a standard rebuild on my G-lader, and from the courier picking it up to delivering it back it was about 5 working days, and that was including probably a day extra where I had to phone up and pay! JMR's had a G60 since the early 90's and from the sounds of it, there's nothing he hasn't done at one point or other. I've heard middling reports about Jabba lately, both in general and regarding G-lader rebuilds. Phone up John at JMR and have a chat about what you want, he's one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with, and he'll be getting all my business when it comes to the time for my G60 to be going down the same route as yours!

Found some on ebay.de http://www.ebay.de/itm/VW-Corrado-HalterBefestigung-seitlich-Stosstange-535807193-535807194-/391216351564?hash=item5b164fc94c

Hi folks. My exhaust has decided to make itself into a straight through system, and the rear box has detached from the rest of the system! Still after a complete system, or a matching centre and back box! Mine's an early one, so the silly type hangers. Cheers.

28 in stock at main warehouse. Is he using the correct part number?
-
Which is your local VW dealer? They're wrong. There's not even a minimum order quantity! They're showing 28 in stock at the main UK warehouse. applicable to VW, Audi, and Skoda vehicles.

There's not a lot of information out on them at the moment, to be fair. What was it you were mainly interested it knowing? As he said, there's currently a 9 month waiting list, as the UK has sold all of its allocation for this year already - means nobodies sure if you'll still be eligable for the government grant by the time they're registered. with regards to running costs, not sure, much better mpg than the GTI, I can tell you that! Servicing wise, I'd guess it'd be somewhere between the 1.4tsi and the Touareg Hybrid - I don't know the exact service requirements but it's bound to have more checks than a standard petrol engined car - I know it takes a different specification of oil (VW 502 00) due to the hybrid nature - the engine can start up and immediately be expected to work at 3k rpm or so, but beyond that, there's no information available yet. If you've got any other questions shoot me a PM and I'll try to find out for you :)

Hmm, OK. I've got tyres to change as well, so I'll have a check when they're off! Was it the lower arm ball joint (that goes into the bottom of the hub/steering knuckle) or the track rod joints?
-
Yeah, that's a good way of describing it. If you go into a left bend, wheels straight, steering wheel top at 12'o'clock, once you come out the other side and put wheels straight, the steering wheel top will be at 11'o'clock, and then when you go round a right hand corner, afterwards the top of the steering wheel will be at 1'o'clock, and so on and so forth, the speed and angle of the corner seems to affect the position of the steering wheel afterwards, so a fast, tight-ish left hander (like a slip road off a big roundabout) will leave the steering wheel offset more than a slight bend at 25/30mph. I'll try and drop the subframe at somepoint and give it a good look over.
-
I actually only got round to this this weekend! I checked the bolts holding the rack to the subframe, and did tighten them up slightly (only about half a turn each) and it's no better. I did notice my PAS fluid was only just over the minimum so I topped that up a bit just a precaution, now about 75% between min and max. It's still doing it! It's a really wierd feeling. Going to get a tech to look at it, I'm wondering whether it's the trackrods or maybe something to do with the PAS system itself, maybe a dodgy pump? I had to run it with very little tension for a while due to snapping the tensioner bolt, and thinking back, it was fine before that. Could a dodgy pump cause this issue? I'd guess it builds the pressure then can't hold it, and so the steering 'un steers'? Are there any pressure valves in the steering system?

One of the things I've learnt working in a VW garage is that Eos's leak. It's just what they do. If he's set on a convertible, a golf cab would be a much better choice - for some reason they leak a lot less!
-
eos is the german spelling for "leaks like a seive." - avoid.

The charger support gasket is available from Heritage: https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/049127311/o-ring-for-warm-up-valve-mk2-golf-1800cc-engines/

Nah, iron-x/ ferris dueller etc remove embedded iron particles (brake dust, remnants from grinding, etc) without contact (spray it on and it all dissolves away) Clay bars / mitts remove all surface contaminants from the surface that have wedged themselves into the clear coat. You'd use it before polishing and then waxing to make sure you have a 100% clean paint surface. If any of you lot are interested, check out detailing world, there's a whole host of information on there about cleaning your cars!
