Afternoon all ;) Before selling my 2.0 16v I'm changing the cam cover gasket as it's weeping slightly. I'm trying to get the top inlet manifold off of the lower piece but the flange just wont separate. All nuts are undone, all vac lines connections, inlet pipe and the bracket at the back but even with a bit of persaution it just wont budge. Has anyone got any suggestions to make it move? I was debating about heat, but didn't think that's a good idea! lol Answers on a post card.... :thumbleft:

Check my sig ;) lol It's looking a bit darker than normal in this pic - same colour as what Mat is picking up.
-
Welcome Mat I just picked up a VR in the same colour a week ago. It's a cracking colour - and engine too! Enjoy yours ;) Here's mine;
-
Welcome. I agree, that looks lovely in silver Your heater panel lights work well - nice and bright. Have you fitted LEDs?
-
LOL, I haven't done that for a while - lack of time a lot of the time or just CBA - but must get back in that habit, used to do it all the time!

Holy crap batman!! Just skipped backwards through this thread. I couldn't quite place where the dash was from - now I know where! Incredible skill went in to this, epic build! I'd love to know where it is now too! :thumbleft:

I think I'm going to have to take the long way to work now then!

That ones added to the watch list ;) d I had brief messaging with him on ebay before buying Sam's VR last week - this is the second time it's listed. His name is Dave and he seemed a decent chap. He said the car cost him £2k and all the parts £1.5k - wasn't looking to get that total back but open to offers. Said no bodywork or paintwork issues except a small scrape on the bumper and head was refurbished. That's all I know, sounds like it's worth further investigation ;)

I've just purchased one of thsoe ^^^^^ - hoping it will arrive tomorrow :) -
Hello mate - posted up on your thread in MK1 Golf OC forum ;) As I mentioned there, sell the Sportline and buy the VR plus a cheaper MK1 ;) You'll get strong money for the S/L and at least you can keep the MK1 thing alive - I really miss my Sportline :)

That's a retro fit I'd agree, I'd walk away from this one.
-
Sounds like there's no magic answer then?

Haha, excellent! -
Hi all! I need to buy some new boot struts for the VR. I had bought some for the valver from SGS a few months back (I've used them before and they've always been good) but these for the C don't seem strong enough. They hold the tailgate no problem but it's still a struggle to open. Has anyone used other struts that make the tailgate easier to open? I know it's heavy so not after miracles, but with the SGS ones it feels like they're resisting you push it up

Ah thanks for that Sean. It does look like it's coming from the cooler as couldn't see anything from the top, but don't know the common weak points on these yet :)
-
Ah nice one, thanks mate ;)
-
That's a shame, but at least you know ;)

So today I managed to get the VR on the ramp at my MOT station opposite. I wasn't expecting any nasty surprises underneath, and sure enough there weren't any! :thumbleft: There were a couple of minor issues to sort. Firstly, I had noticed if you weren't super-smooth with gear changes there was a bit of a knock, so expected engine mounts to be worn. However, found that one of the bolts on the front mount is missing so guess this is the reason. I've ordered new ones from my VW dealer. It's £3 each but at least I know the size is right! You may notice above - and certainly in the pic below the second issue - oil drips; I've not had a good nose around yet but so far can't see exactly where it's coming from. I thought I'd check on here if it's a common leak point on VRs or not? Any tips on that are appreciated ;)

VW MK1 Golf Clipper Convertible - Celebrity Owned! Over 50 photos can be found here - http://www.yesterdayscars.co.uk/available-cars/mk1-golf-clipper-convertible/ Overview Here we have the trade sale of a 1991 MK1 Golf Clipper Convertible, 1.8 litre manual. This Golf is in exceptional condition and is one of the best that we have seen and driven. Additionally, it was purchased by us from Mat Horne ? aka Gavin from the TV series, Gavin & Stacey, which makes for a nice piece of owner history for this car. The car has gone through a thorough detailing to show just how good it is. This isn?t a ?2-3k MK1 Golf, but one of the best, unmolested cars we think you could wish to find. History First registered on 7th June 1991, this Golf has had just 6 owners in total with Mat owning the car since July 2007. The owner?s handbooks are present along with the service book, fully stamped up to year 2000 and stamps at 2009 and 2014. There?s plenty of receipts for work undertaken on the car and Mat in particular has lavished the car, spending over ?5,000 with Alan Day Volkswagen of London attending to anything that the car required during his ownership. Work completed during Mat?s ownership includes a new clutch, full gear linkage and bush replacement, gearbox oil, seat tilt cable, new alternator, front wheel bearings, VW exhaust back box, new fuel tank with filler next and in November it received a full service including all fluids changed. The only outstanding items were the distributor cap, rotor arm and cam belt, which we have now taken care of. The car now has a little over 89,000 miles on the clock, which is believed to be genuine, given the exceptional condition of this car, but cannot be guaranteed as there are some MOT certificates missing. Absent certificates are from 94-97, 02-04 and 06. All others are present. The car is now MOT?d until 18th November 2015 and is HPI clear and retains its original registration number. We can?t stress enough in the text and photos just how good this car is and viewing is highly recommended. Any inspection is welcome and please contact us for further information. Over 50 photos can be found here - http://www.yesterdayscars.co.uk/available-cars/mk1-golf-clipper-convertible/ List Date: 1/19/2015 Location: Stamford PE9, United Kingdom For more info, click here to view the original listing: VW MK1 Golf Clipper Convertible - Celebrity Owned! -------------------------------------- SOLD -------------------------------------- Mobile friendly version: VW MK1 Golf Clipper Convertible - Celebrity Owned! You're a proper wheel whore then! lol :thumbleft:
-
Yes I saw the thread on that one. As someone mentioned, it would be interesting to see if it ends up at a dealer for double the money?? I bet you're glad to be properly on the search for your VR now? I take it you'll be after one of the same caliber as your 944?

Manufacturers always recommend that you drive a car to warm it up, not let it idle. Doesn't change your neighbours being miserable buggers though! lol -
Glad you found another buyer quickly Steve, that's great news ;)
-
Oh excellent, that's good news Steve - didn't take you long to find another buyer. But I think there's always a buyer out there for the right car ;)
-
Sounds a good idea. It would be useful and make it easy to show a prospective buyer the history of the car. I guess the question comes down to if you will bother to scan and upload every invoice or not? I'm going to have a nose around this though :)
