How much crap do you carry about in your car?
Yandards replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
As little as possible but my boot is currently home to the following: A valeting bag A broken VW solar panel Spare bulb kit Electric pump Top adjuster widget for my Konis. 3 x pairs of socks (Don't ask) 1 x large pink flag.. More weight = less MPG = less fun. -
May be coming back to the fold already......

RWD Corrado now that would be worth doing.. I am sure it will be yet another shinning example to the rest of us Jay. -
Probably illegal due to the no sharp pointy bits rules of the MOT, a few fairly sharp pointy bits in the engine bay!

At a guess they should be ok. My reasoning is that as long as the bolt holes in the wheel have a 'V' shaped profile to match the 'V' profile on the wheel bolts then it should self centre if you fit and opposite pair to finger tight and then do around half a turn on each and alternate until they are tight. This should ensure the wheel is centred on the hub. They are not ideal because the inner rim should really sit in the flange to enable a good centre but I think that is all the flange is there for.

Yeah sounds more like a cable failure than a clutch one.
-
Yeah they sure do, shame as you can really get the hammer down if it's quiet, mind you taking the route over the Cairngorms is really fun when they have not just loose chipped the bloody road

Ok here is the info on the cloth seats that I have. Early (01.09.88-31.07.90) colour combos for leccy reccaros were: Anthracite/Blue Trim code UE Anthracite/Red Trim code UD Anthracite/Silver Trim code UC Grey/Red Trim code UY Later (01.08.91-31.07.95) colours are only listed as: Grey Black/Blue/Green with a trim code of XT. Genuine corrado grey/red reccaros should have door cards and a rear bench with hump in the same cloth AND have a back adjust as well as height; a set from a Golf will only have height. So if your car has a original set of reccaros it should also have the trim code on the sticker in the boot and in the front of the service manual, but a over £600 as an option in 1990 most people paid the extra for leather. The other issue is what the hell were VW doing with trim for a year and pain for that matter as well?

Yup sounds like BT to me...

Nice, I bet the seat upgrade feels good even though the original ones can't be discribed as bad.

Book figures say a Golf 16v is quicker 0-60mph by around .5 of a second in standard trim. A mk II 1.8 8v rocco is quicker than a 16v C as well 0-60mph and retains a good weight advantage as well as the aerodynamics over both the Golf and the Corrado. In reality with the age of the cars a poor state of tune and condition of the engines as well as mods like larger alloys will all have an adverse effect on performance. (unless you fitted lighter alloys that is)

VW used a standard sump for the 16v G60's with the addition of an oil return line being fitted. As for if it fits or not I would go and get a sump gasket for the G60 and see if the holes line up.

There tends to be quite a lot of sticktion (And yes that is a real engineering term) between the drive gear on the bottom of the dizzy and the input shaft on the other end of the block. I would get try to tap around the base of the dizzy with a hammer and a flat blade screw driver to loosen it up a bit. You could also try leavering between the bottom of the dizzy and the block with the aforementioned screwdriver. As for timing, make sure the cam belt end lines up according to the book as well or it will make a bit of a mess...

Maybe because you should be working..? Nice, that Beamer really sticks to the track.

Quickest car you've been in, owned and most interesting....
Yandards replied to NickVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Best I can manage for quickest car was as a passenger and Henny taking me out for a trip around the block - torque is good. Quickest car I own is the C for top end and the roc for 0-60. Best noise has to be the thrum of my Triumph, 2 litres of straight 6 makes an awesome noise. -
Not true for the KR engine. The KR Golf engine has a 212mm, the KR Corrado engine has the larger 228mm diameter flywheel.

Proberly the rarest Corrado in existance today..
Yandards replied to W3RKD's topic in General Car Chat
I believe the other one is in the basement at Karmann, allegedly in a bit of a mess after someone crashed it. Not at all keen on the styling, especially the way the front bumper just looks so stuck on. -
Red pads not a lot of use on the road.

Hi Chris, I would agree that it is more likely to be an engine mount issue. It will also cause problems as the gearbox cables are moving with the engine as it rocks hence the clunky gear selection. You can check for a very worn clutch by driving along in say 5th then dropping to 3rd and flooring it - if the clutch is worn it will slip and your engines revs will climb quickly without the car accelerating. However, 'rado gearboxes are known for a slightly clunky change as you describe when the gearbox oil is cold. The best soultion for this is recommended to be replacing the gearbox oil for some fully synthetic stuff, redlines MTL 90 is the one to use. It would be useful to know if you have an early car as these were not fitted with weights on the gearbox selector, this makes a huge difference to the feel of the gear change.

Think its toast after chatting with Tempest over the BVF weekend, but he is not sure about that. -
Couple of pics of the MK1 GTI Cab I've just acquired

Another quality motor for the stable Andy. -
Can vouch for the ride on the PI springs with the Koni shocks, very good on a VR and better than H&R 16v/G60 springs. They are also the only company to manufacture both the earlier, larger top section springs (as per most companies) and the later ones.

Tom you can check get the windows to close on the C by holding the key in the locking position, if you time this it will give you a rough idea of how long to pulse for. I think the sequence is passenger window, then drivers. I think it was post facelift models that had the sunroof close as well.
-
Heh, no really it was - I looked at their prices but was offered the same job for around £200 less. Anyway if anyone buys a 16v/G60 head thats not from the head porn shop that is CNC heads then thats just silly.
-
A good friend of mine phoned them about getting a 16v head rebuilt a while ago and staged 1 at the same time. When he asked if they could provide a copy of the benchflow figures after the work he was told that they didn't benchflow their heads as they knew what they were doing ...
