  1. I think MM covered much of this earlier on in the thread. The basic argument being that if we are all in the EU and the EU has a number plate directive which the BS(British Standard) derives from how can german plate be illegal?
  2. :pukeright: It's just too over the top, don't like the bonnet cut out vent/chicken mesh thing and those exhaust tailpipes are really sh1te, but complement the equally crapola bumpers. As with all things styling it just comes down to personal taste.
  3. It works well as a complete package, including the doors.
  4. Adding an element of furthur distrust I think this has as much to do with criminals as it does with an ability to collect congestion charges. If it was common knowledge that by using a foreign plate it will dodge congestion charges, more people would fit them. I know that congestion charging is only effective in London at the moment but they do plan to roll the scheme out to other major cities. On top of that there is always the looming prospect of more toll roads etc. As a side note does anyone who has noticed the recent 'upgrading' of the countries motorway network with more of those information boards; think that there is way more fibre optic cable being laid than is needed for a pretty basic dot sign? Just what are they going to do with all the extra bandwidth?
  5. Crikey! I was upset paying over a pound a litre for optimax yesterday let alone over 2 quid a litre!! Little point to it unless you are going to always use it and get your timing advanced to make use of the higher octane.
  6. They only started making the silverlines a couple of years ago so I am guessing they are still under warranty(18 months). Not a pretty site though, I firmly believe that most of the damping adjustable suspension set-ups need to be a good half turn from bottom or top to help them last a bit longer.
  7. Bigger problem than that for you Kev, the 5 stud pattern is not currently available! Have a look here for some light wheels: http://www.tirerack.com
  8. Some 80's Fords were all named after cheap top shelf publications. Escort Fiesta Apparently Astra means 'to rust' in latin..
  9. Thanks for the chop, must admit it looks good, although I would have to loose the Jap red centre badges and replace them with black and silver ones to keep it low key. I wanted the 15's Kev they are 15"x7" 4x 100 PCD with an ET of 33, so ideal for the C as it just makes the rim wider by 1/4" each way, not too bad at $340 a piece. It's a proper forged wheel so its as strong as you can get. I can get them from a US supplier who will ship them to the UK, . As for the 16x7's they weigh in at 12.8lbs each (5.8kg) and a slightly more hefty $412 a pop. Figure it is going to cost around £1000-1200 to get them over here including shipping and taxes. All in all thats pretty good for a wheel that is difficult to get in the US let alone Europe; and reduces the unsprung suspension mass by 2.4kg per wheel. It's quite a hefty amount, that's from another 'light' wheel BBS RM splits. Even the 16's are a kilo lighter per wheel than 15" RM's! Can't find how much a standard set of sebrings weight but they are some pretty hefty wheels, anyone know?
  10. Yup go with Trig on the alignment first. Then get it on axle stands and check the torque loading on all of the suspension and subframe bolts. If it still clunks we need to know what the car is doing when is does, is it speed dependant? etc. But a good 80% of the front end clunking can be cured by alignment and a good torque check. (Figures for torque loading can be found in the bentley manual or on the knowledge base (link at top of forum)
  11. Can someone chop these onto my car. Like the idea of a wheel that weighs in at 10.2lbs a piece (4.64kg) just want to see what they look like on the car. Can someone chop these onto my car.
  12. Not sure if you read my specualtion a couple of pages ago on the different torque between the plus(VR) and standard(16v/G60) torque loadings and wishbones. Basically aside from the wishbones and the some of the section of the subframe all the parts are identical (bush, bolts) As such why is the torque figure for the VR only 70nm plus 90 degress as oppossed to the 16v/G60 which is 130nm? I also am beginning to suspect that the torque figure supplied is designed to be used with the cars weight on its wheels, you will end up with an incorrect torque reading if the car is on axle stands if you do not place them under the wishbones as the wishbone bush is then loaded. We are going to check the torque loadings on 2cc's 16v car today (and maybe his VR) if the same problem manefests itselfs I think we can call this a diagnosed problem.
  13. So you went for G60/16v setting of 130NM then? I haven't noticed mine doing its clunk thing since I re-torqued them. Did you find it was around 1 and half turns to get it to 130nm (Same as mine)? I am beginning to suspect the loading on these eases off over use/time hence the clunk develops. I did check the rest of the subframe bolts at the same time but none of them had come loose just the 2 x subframe ones. I suppose the answer to do a quick torque check once every year or six months and see what develops now, if nothing else it should stop these clunks from developing. Anyone know if a torque check for the subframe is listed in the maintenace manual as part of the routine servicing?
  14. I think it was where's your car gradeA? but the meerkat one is loads beter :D
  15. there she goes! boing-boing-boing-TREE!!! I believe it was more a case of POLE! ..and thats harsh as you like! (I may have missed one of Dom's previously acts of wanton corrado destruction of course  )
  16. I am not showing the door seals as being deleted yet, only the ones for dusty climates are NLA (No longer available) You may well find they go on back order for a while if none are currently available although I suspect it will be one of those items that will be remanufactured as they must have a steadyish turnover of major glass and seals.
  17. Already signed and being a bit local its one of those issues that has been going on for a few years. People like that really p1$$ me off, I mean its in the same league as moving next to Heathrow and then complaining about jet noise!!
  18. Have a look on here Phil http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/subcategories/c_path/49/spd/visual---sat-nav.html This may suit your 2 DIN obsession.. http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4397.html
  19. Would not want to ever wake up to that! At least all they did was smash the window and didn't indulge in the usual fecking around trying to prise the door handle off.
  20. VR with higher mileage will probably need the timing chains doing if it hasnt been done already, I think Vince up at Stealth charges a flat £600 for that. Not to say that they can't run for crazy miles without the chains being done (andi the admin had over 200k out of his original set)
  21. Gloucester to Trowbridge, fifty miles at a push and I know its been a 'local' car for local people all its life. Soon to be relocated to darkest duffus in morayshire so thats going to be a massive 513 miles..
  22. Interesting from the point of view that there should be more 16v/G60's out there but the forum seems to have a larger proportion of VR owners than any of the other marks. It's also interesting that the C only sold a few less than the Golf when it came to VR's when they were competing. Would be good to see the sales figures for all the Corrados through its lifespan.
