  1. Valver is fiddled with more but looks standard apart from ride height on the outside (Including the wipers and they work just fine). My new VR is going to go back to standard (just need to loose the in-pro lights) apart from a set of aero wipers on the outside. I intend to fit some 'reliability mods' such as mk 4 rear calipers, braided brake hoses and an oil cooler. (Yes it needs a wash and could use a new front wing too)
  2. Last couple of days since collection of the newest member of my collection has been some serious polishing. Raining more today so had a crack at the interior - ran out of microfibre cloths, got about 15 or so, had use 3 on the headlining alone! Too dark to see what I am doing now so game over for today :(
  3. This is just one more reason why I avoid garages like the plague. Fortunately I am in a position to do the work myself but on the odd occasion I need specialist work carried out then I try to get pictures of the car before it goes in just to cover myself. Hope this all goes your way and make sure you let the manager know that if he does not admit liability then you will name the company on here.
  4. Liking the jet powered bettle just down the page a bit more..
  5. I noticed a big difference switching from standard bulbs to a complete set of new xenon 'brilliance'(up to 30% brighter IIRC) and 'super brilliance' (up to 50% brighter) from Halfords a little while ago. Lets face it bulb technology has come on a long way since 1984-87ish when they were designing the Corrado. Despite not having an uprated loom (and I don't want one too many horror stories of lights switching off) I have found that I am no longer blinking or straining my eyes when another car goes by. Even if you just try this before an uprated loom you will still get the extra out of the new bulbs with the uprated loom fitted. I have only fitted OE spec wattage as melted reflectors would cost around £200 for a set!
  6. Suppose I need to add sherry pearl as well as blue pearl effect as of Saturday..
  7. Just what you don't need after all you have been recently Andy. Whilst I appreciate you don't like the idea of conflict, you need to decide if you can live the rest of your life not knowing if your Dad's wishes have been kept to. I do find it hard to believe that your father, whom knew you have his passion for motoring, didn't leave his collection of automotive memorobilia to you. As for the legal side again I don't know for definite, but there are mechanisms for contesting wills and I am confident there will be little effort required to at least see the contents of your Dad's will, and the resulting peace of mind from that. Hope you get it sorted soon.
  8. 40mm should be ok even on standard shockers but it is better to go with slightly shorter shocks.
  9. The later disc (smaller diameter one) is shallower by approximately 5mm. You are correct about the MK.II spring disc, it wont work with the new top mount and bearing arrangement. As for your lack of spring compression I assume you are using standard dampers with the 40mm lowering springs? If so you will find that they will not be as tight as the original springs but the new spring disc should ensure you get a reasonable amount of compression.

    Another MFA Q

I think there is something in the Bentley about a slow clock, (No that is not without the 'l' Baz!) It depends on if you have VDO or Motometer set of clocks, ah sorry got my Bentley out of the garage! The limits for a clock are that it can only loose 5 secs in 24 hours before a replacement MFA is required (I would speculate that it is that stringent due to the clock accuracy being the basis for MPG, trip time etc.) So to check it I would try the following, note the 'real time of day' disconnect the battery, reconnect the battery when you are dead on a minute so the clock resets to 0:00. A the same time the following day the clock in the car should be within 5 secs of your other clock/watch.
  11. Classic problem and you need to head into the Corrado section of ETKA to sort it out. The spring disc you actually need is part no 1H0 412 341 and you will also need a matching set of bellows to go with the wider spring disc, this is part number 1H0 413 175. The reason for this is that aside from Pi (Who make both types of spring) all the other manufacturers require the use of the earlier and wider spring disc. The earlier discs are 105mm in diameter and where in use up to around 06.93, the later discs are only 92mm in diameter VW introduced the smaller spring disc as part of a ride improvement on the suspension to enable the use of 'lateral force compensating coil springs. These reduce the friction on the piston rod in the piston rod guide of the suspension strut. This improves the response of the shock absorbers and therefore the ride comfort.'
  12. For me you really can't beat a good set of BBS RMs or RSs. Stunning wheel, really suits all VW's of the era and it is fairly light too so has a good edge when it comes to handling and ride. Must confess to always liking speedlines, they just seem to suit the C and nice and easy to clean too. Given a silly budget I like these, look pretty good I think although would have to loose the rice stylie red center cap for a black and silver one. Best thing about them is they only weight in 4.91kg - seriously light for 15" x 7" rim!
  13. They're techniques to alter the physical properties of the materials that the parts are made out of. Shot Peening is esentially like shot blasting, but it uses small steel balls fired very fast. I *think* it increases the hardness of the surface, a bit like case hardening. For gearboxes, you want a hard surface, and a tough 'inside' So that the gears don't wear but can absorb shock loading. Stress relief is typically achieved through heat treatments. Steel 'work hardens' as it is deformed, it gets harder due to the carbon deposits in the microstructure. Stress relieving heat treatments remove these stresses.... This is all true but you need to be aware that by hardening metal you also make it more brittle, this will increase its resistance to wear but the metal is more likely to fail when subjected to impacts. There are a number of treatments/processes that can be applied to metals that can change their properties of hardness, elasticity, plasticity, ductility, malleability, brittleness, tenacity and toughness. Most of these involve heating the metal to a set temperature to achieve this. As a good example all metals will 'age harden' this is a process that occurs naturally over time and starts immediately after the metal has been either forged/cast or heated. Anyone who works with aluminium will tell you that it is most malleable (easy to work into shape without cracking) when it is 'fresh' from manufacture as the metal gets older is becomes increasingly difficult to work with. From VW's manufacture point of view it would be cheapest for them to specify that all gear sets were cast from the same material specification and with the same coatings/processes to ensure that they can interchange gear sets as required for new models. So I agree with Ben, I doubt there is any difference in any of the O2A sets in terms of strength just in ratios.
  14. £325! That is just insulting. Just do what the ham lover (Walesy) suggested, get some prices for equivelent G60's, especially from on here and send those to them along with copies of your receipts etc. When you do send make sure you send it by recorded delivery, it is only a few pence more and ensures that whoever is dealing with your claim has to sign for it in person.
  15. Yup, postcode is IV30 5QL and I live in Duffus (which appears to be in a field) have a look yourself. Only low res sat area. Checked my old house and that too only has a low res photo.
  16. Can't get more than a outline of the village at about 10k up for me..
  17. Thing is Trig it is only the little poxy jobs that are pi$$ing you off - you have said so yourself. As such I would not recommend getting rid of the C, do what Walesy suggested, take it off the road and get something you don't care about as much. You have spent some serious time and effort getting a car to a point where you where happy with it, at least hold on to spring and take it out for a good blat before you consider getting rid. (I find I enjoy my C more when I have been driving the Golf or 'rocco for a while)
  18. I think the issue with that would be that AGM falls a bit too early in the year and the weather is rubbish.
  19. Thanks Eric. Date for AGM and location would be great, at least it is likely to be more in advance than last year!
  20. Always quite liked Megatron myself.. (Sorry)
  21. Ive got a disc here with his mk2 getting dyno'ed Ill try and make one of these meets before 2010  He has it up for sale right now, shame it is a nice motor.
  22. Most British Racing Green type colours and beige leather look great but that does look really, very nice. Would get some door catch covers though to stop that standing out so much.
  23. I realise that that there are some genuine exceptions, but I'd have to agree with the government's argument and also some people who voiced their opinions on the governments potential plans to introduce charges on heavy traffic roads, that there are too many people who simply don't want to leave the car at home for commuting because they're simply too bone idle! I know quite a few that have less than what I travel to work each day, and take the car. Well, if they do so, then they should not complain about clogged roads, that they actively contribute to themselves. That's where my "dumbness factor" kicks in ;-) Plus, my pet hate remains parents bringing their kids to school over distances of less than a mile (well almost any parent that brings kids to school; in my days, we simply walked, ergo, no clogged up roads :-) ). Just notice the difference between school times and half-term breaks. Tempest The problem with most of these fantastic transport schemes are that they are only any good if you live in a city. I suppose one positive side effect of the eventual 'black box in your car' will be that if they thought about it; they could really hit people with a high rate, if they are only travelling less than a mile or two. (Mind you there exceptions to that to - disabilities etc)
