  1. CoxyLaad said Exactly. And they would have ruled the world with a repressive, totalitarian state into genocide. Many of you guys on this forum and your parents would not have been around to see today if they had not been stopped. $hit happens to the innocent in war but we should have no guilt complex about crushing Hitler and the Nazis, thank you. Many of today's German people will possibly agree, too.
  2. She was squealing last night, DEL VR6 - you would probably have blown a gasket!
  3. Yes - agree with that, Dec. Guy whose Storm I bought, traded it in for Octavia VRS, would have like to have seen straightforward  look at new one's performance.
  4. I know a lot of us do not like this much sometimes, but did anyone else think this week's edition was very good? The story about Honda's development of the hydrogen fuel cell car on the "Bond villain" type island which has a surplus of hydro power due to its low population and 10,000 millimetre annual rainfall was fascinating. Test drive of car by the fat bearded chap showed it was very quiet, 0-60 in about 13-14 seconds and he was told it had top speed of 100 mph. Pretty ordinary looking but functional car with only water vapour coming out of the exhaust and the performance of a 1970s 1600cc coupe like the Opel Manta or Ford Capri. That is impressive new technology IMO. On the lighter side, the bit about "paparazzi" types getting sneaky early pics of new British cars like Astons, Jags and Range Rovers was interesting. How dare those security types stick there noses in to ask why pictures were being taken on a public road from a public layby of "their" vehicles. Cheeky gits! Program is repeated tonight on Ch 5 at midnight.
  5. ZippyVR6 I reckoned so - Ive used it plenty of times before. A lot of these car care products are overpriced, appeal to our vanity and are certainly not vital. Ordinary cheaper stuff will do just as good a job IMO. Some things can do two or three different jobs. I note that Autoglym leather care cream can be used on vinyl and rubber. So, do I really need the Vinyl Care stuff? Having said that, I am as daft as anyone when it comes to picking up on impulse something else in Halfords to try. We men must be as gullible with car care products as women are with cosmetics.
  6. Too much faffing about to do this - I have done other alloys in the past. I bit the bullet and paid under £250 for a professional job. Well worth it, I feel, STORM 2.
  7. Better than ever - great fun. Know what you mean about technical car stuff/reviews being replaced by monkeying around. Nevertheless, we should forgive them this time, the comedy bits were really worthwhile. The three guys placed themselves in some real personal danger, at times, too. Remember "the Hamster" trying to grab hold of the upside-down Toyota's turning rear wheel to save himself - and Clarkson's comment about how he should have known it would spin, being a hamster, and all? Will not forget that in a hurry. :thumbleft:
  8. Just now I am using an aerosol spray by Autoglym - "Alloy Wheel Seal". Their products are always good, I have found. Always difficult to tell if these things are working well unless you use them for years. One of the best old-fashioned ways to protect alloys was to apply wax floor polish containing beeswax. The science is sound - the wax stops brake dust and salt adhering to the surface. Cheap, too.
  9. Don't worry - I don't intend to be doing this! Reason I ask is, car had MOT today and passed on everything. One of advisories said "power steering pipes starting to corrode." I asked my helpful garage man if this happened regularly. He said it does from time to time on Mk3 Golfs and Polos and "it's quite expensive." Mine should last for a good while, but I wondered if anyone on here has had to have said pipes replaced due to corrosion.
  10. My 5 litres of Synta silver from my local VAG dealer cost £15.32 a month ago with CCGB 10% discount. Trouble is after many years and takeovers they are now Honda dealers.
  11. Ours is now £205 - limited mileage - with Esure.
  12. chrisw said Yes. "Makes good tv that" I said to my daughter. I like Nadine - she has an unusually attractive face. Did her parents name her after Nadine in the Chuck Berry song?
  13. Too much drama on this forum - I'll have to go and have a cup of tea and a lie down. Seriously, wishing you all the best, Chris, for a full and proper recovery.
  14. PhatVR6 said Exactly what I said to 'er indoors. I have sent them (Diamond) an email telling them I was not aware that the laws of physics had changed - could they please explain how, by changing to a set of silicon rubber hoses from the original 10-year old jobs you can get significantly more bhp, such that your insurance premium can go up.
  15. We are getting some quotes for the C this month. The car is down as owned by the missus. We were with Esure last year - about £220 fully comp. Mileage limited to 2000 miles. Diamond insurance for woman (part of Admiral, I believe) gave us what seemed at first glance the best quote, but the small print says we will not have no claims bonus protection. Cute trick. What is even more of a turnoff is that they are regarding the Samco coolant hoses I had fitted to replace the 10-year old original VW hoses as a performance enhancer and asked for our garage's phone number so that they can find out why we had them fitted. To$$ers. Needless to say, we told them we will be going elsewhere. Should we just not mention the hoses as modifications? I got the Samcos and Goodridge because I like durability, not to gain extra bhp. We are both 60 years old for god's sake! Comments, guys?
  16. dub envy said Sure. I use engine braking as much as possible - usually in as high a gear as is necessary to slow down, rather than diving down to 2nd such that the engine revs very highly - which the missus sometimes does. Once when I went to a VAG dealer with sticking calipers on an early Polo, we were discussing wearing out of disc pads and when I told him how many miles mine lasted, he said "oh, you're not using your brakes enough". Stone the crows!
  17. vr6corrado said Thanks for that vr6corrado. I could not believe that today changing down sequentially is always required.
  18. kev said Only done it once or twice in 6k miles. Cleaned ISV a couple of years ago, but no faults with car then.
  19. My wife learnt to drive over 40 years ago and her instructor trained her to change down through the gears when approaching roundabouts, etc. ie from 4th down to 3rd down to 2nd (so she tells me!). Personally I have never seen the point - I tend to depress the clutch as I am approaching in, usually, 4th, 3rd or 5th, then slip into 1st or 2nd when pulling away. The other day when we went on a 200 mile run, we approached a roundabout after a long fast unbroken run of several miles, she changed down and the engine died on the overrun in 2nd. Fortunately it started on the starter right away, but the missus lost faith a bit in the C! I told her I thought it was an idiosyncracy of the VR6 having read something about this dying at roundabouts experienced by others on the forum. High revving overrun starves engine of fuel? Any modern, technically informed, comments on changing down to second when fast approaching roundabout/give way etc. and on the engine dying experience, guys?
  20. was8v said Too right. We can always live in hope, though, especially since last hike in petrol prices in past few years.
  21. My Quantum has been in 4 years, but I trickle charge it as car wont start after about two weeks. Dont always blame the battery for being duff - you can get rid of a perfectly good one (as I probably did) and find there is still not enough charge to start with the new one after a couple of weeks inactivity. The fault lies with the Corrado's design I would say, after owning a variety of cars for 34 years.
  22. The Germans must love them. I never saw the owners, but toyed with the idea of blocking them in with the Corrado, but we had to press on.
  23. We got 35.5 mpg indicated on MFA on 200 mile run this week. I have never seen any instantaneous reading over about 37mpg.
  24. Seen in Inveraray, Argyll yesterday. The three cars had German (D) MG number plates. The red and the green were 3-litre models.
  25. Not a big deal, really, but I have never liked those placards saying things like "Show dogs in transit": "Baby on Board", etc. Saw a new one yesterday, "Grandchild on Board". Do I look bothered? DO I?!! Am I going to throw all common sense to the wind just because of your numbskull notice? Yes - I think I will, because it pi$$e$ me off so much! Bl££din' Hell! You could certainly tell that grandad was driving the Citroen Xsara - hogging the rural A- road at 40mph for miles with no place for us to get past. Our consumption on a 206 mile round trip to Argyll was 35.5 mph due to him and countless agricultural prams. I really believe things are getting more exasperating every day, just as you young commuters seem to be saying. Keep cool and chill. Remember good karma is still best.
