Can't believe the VW technical manuals don't tell you to pre-pressurise the chain tensioner before fitting!! It actually said to release the pressure with 0.8 gauge piece of wire, there was nothin in the manual about fitting a new one! I checked with our Master Tech!!!

I've recently carried out this job on a Golf VR at work. It was quite time consuming although it only found that the chain tensioner was worn because I was doing a head gasket on it. Once your in behind the flywheel it's not too bad. On the one I did the chains looked fine and the customer didnt want them replacing even though they were a reasonable £30 and £50 odd quid (genuine) So i ended up changing just the tensioners and top guide. Its not a nice noise when your cranking it over for the first time until the oil pressure builds up! Sounds like the chain is gonna jump! It soon quietened down though 8)

Yea the Tb is venting straight to atmosphere, I didnt leave any pipes on there. I've actually measured a peak boost of 11psi on my car, the charger was done quite recently. Sounds like a visit to G-werks is in order then..........I want more boost!! :D :D :D

I like the induction noise I get from my modified airbox with cold air feed, a resonating booming noise some may tire of but I personally love :D The boost return mod isn't that loud, but then i am currently running a standard pulley, will this noise get a fair bit louder when I am running more boost then? Enough to not bother with a BOV?

I know this subject has been brought up several times before, but i've just been reading loads of info on this on Vortex. It seems it can be done with relative ease, and apparently increases throttle response as the butterfly which dumps the boost can leak?! Any of you guys tried this, and yea I know I know I am a boy!!! and yes I already have one of g-werks boost return kits on my car, but was after a liitle more noise!

May not be everyones cup of tea, but there is no denying how much time and effort has gone into that. Plus a serious amount of cash. Different strokes for different folks

What was waiting for me when i arrive at work this morning? Head Gasket on a Golf VR6. Great. Never the less the head was off before lunch and was stripped shortly after ( the 1st time I've done one) However, while stripping the chain gear off, noticed the guide that pushes up against the chain to tension it, was worn throught the plastic to the rivets holding it on to the metal. I lifted it off the metal with no force at all. Is this what you VR6 guys talk about? I've read it on here before but I work in the main dealers and it's the first one I've ever seen do it. Seems now I will Have to take the block out to remove the casing and change it! Looks like someones in for a big bill

I need:- Cambelt, Tensioner and new pulley bolts Rear Discs and Pads Respray the Bonnet and Tailgate New wider rims for the BBS' New Sub and rear speakers And a Rascal Van to run around in while I do it all

You need a blanking plate for the right hand side of the charger, a breather filter to go on the ISV, and a bit of pipe to carry the oil vapours from your breather to your preffered destination (i.e. a catch tank, or the floor!)

Hi mate. I've got a the Toad on my Golf, and had one on my previous Golf too. The first one I had was on the car for two and a half years with no problems at all. The one on my current Golf hasn't given any trouble either. We have quite a lot of cars that come in to work with Cliffords on, and to be honest they are a pain in the arse! :x A couple off mates have also had them fitted and have both had problems with them on numerous occasions. Hope this helps :)

It may be worth disconnecting the inlet/outlet pipes on the turbo and checking the spindle for play. You should only be able to move it with your fingers ever so slightly.

SORTED! Borrowed a more accurate VW gauge from work today, tested a load of cars 2nite! My Edition one is boosting at 10/11psi as is my mates Rallye, this is good for standard spec according to VW. We also tested my mates A3 1.8T, which was pushing out 14psi, and my brothers Mk3 Golf TDI beat us all at 16psi!!!!!! Gutted! The diesel has the most boost! :( Better see about a chip and pulley i reckon
-
yea the car feels fine, puills really well. have'nt tested it on the MFA. at idle it sits at about -20 :? normal drivin it sits at about zero, its only when your accelerating hard does it go above that. is it connected in the right place? t'd into the front of the inlet manifold? yea it shows VAC on the negative side
-
Just been down my mates fitting a boost gauge to his Rallye which he bought from R&A at the edition 38 show at the weekend. Thing is, when we took it up the road, even flat out, it was only reading 7psi! A lot of the time the gauge runs in negative boost, is this right? Shouldn't it be reading about 14-15psi on boost? We took the vacuum feed from the front of the inlet manifold. Anyone explain this :?: Thanks.

Hi guys, got a prob with my 89 gti, PB engine  It has started idling to high (like 2000rpm) :? i've cleaned the throttle body, and tried a different ISV, to no avail. noticed something strange though, if you push the WOT switch on the top of the throttle body the revs drop back to normal. Any ideas or help appreciated. thanks
