Is it distilled water you have to use with the G13 or is tap water ok?

When I went to the dealers, they did recommend the green oil based on my car, but when I drained for fitting the new pump it was red that came out? Pretty sure the pump I took of was original, but can't say for definite. Thanks for the help - will look into a little more in the morning...

What coolant should I use? Went to VW dealer and they gave me G13, is that the right stuff? Also the steering fluid - I fitted a new pump and the fluid that came out was punk/red, but the dealer gave me green stuff - again is this ok to use? Thanks!

Lovely, that sounds like a simple job! Was dreading it being a lot more complex. In light of my patience running thin and my brain frazzled putting all back together, I'm just glad it's that straight forward :)

Should be ready to fill with coolant tonight. I have renewed all the heater matrix, all coolant pipes, thermostat and housing, water pump and the radiator. What is the best way to proceed with filling the system?

Thanks for the consolation stories - glad I'm not alone! I think I just overdosed on doing too many jobs at the same time. You all know the score, as long as the access is there I might as well replace...

Wow, I can't believe how stupid I have been!! For 1/2 an hour I wrestled with the dash and I was trying to get the steering rack through the speedo binnacle hole!!! It then dawned on me that the dash fits over it - what a numpty!

Really struggling to get the dash in! The problem seems to be getting it over the steering column. Any suggestions?

Ok, so got the heater box and all ducting re-fitted. Got the heater matrix hooked up - that was a bit awkward getting the coolant hoses connected! Question, do I fit the dash and route the wires or do you have to position the wires before setting the dash in, or do you fit the dash partially and then route the wiring before fixing the dash? Many thanks!

They were for my 1.8 16v. The rocker cover is: 357-971-537. The bonnet one was easy to source and I didn't bother noting the part number - sorry.

Got these sorted - the dealers had the rocker cover one and to my surprise was only £7! However the shorter bonnet strap (shorter) was £19!

Both earth straps in my engine bay have severed completely just behind the connection join. I managed to find a bonnet strap fairly easily however, can't seem to find the rocker one. Any pointers or someone happen to have a decent one lying around? Thanks!

Only thing that threw me a little was the details listed the part as "with A/C" Guessing that is not an issue as I don't have it?

Just ordered it now - ended up at £46 with vat and delivery, but if it's the right part and quality - then all good!

Is the part Valeo number 812031? Looks like I was supplied 812030 instead...

Help! Are there different heater matrix between the range? The second one arrived and it still does not fit! The pipes that go through the bulkhead seem to be short and won't clear the mounting on the bag of the heater box when I slide the matrix in? Both matrix that have been ordered were model specific to my 1990 1.8 16v, but both will not insert all the way into the heater box! Anyone else had this problem and maybe she'd some light? Thanks!

I have a set of newly refurbished flaps for the heater box. After just doing my own I had a spare set of flaps and tons of felt left over, so have a set ready to go for someone who need them :) £10 posted (cover the cost of felt and postage)

Plus, I still have this left - I laid the smaller flap on there for a little perspective and to show how I overestimated the amount needed!

So, I had some extra flaps and went and stripped them and returned them with some of the felt I had left over - anybody fancy them?
