Gutted for you man, I hope you get it sorterd OK. From your description, it sounds like no-one was at fault, just one of those things. Good luck, Tom

Good to hear you're back on top of it, and Id like to echo what dubster82 said, in that there are people in awe of this project up and down the country. Give us a shout if you need an extra pair of hands any Saturday. Cheers, Tom -
Is this when you start the car, when it's idling or when you're cruising at a steady speed? If it's when you're driving, I wouldn't worry about it :-)
-
Congrats man, looks like a good deal. Like you say it's local, good feedback, and high mileage is nothing. I bought my first valver off Ebay for £2k and it was in pretty good nick (until it got rolled down a hill :-) ). Enjoy! Tom

I'd go for the Merc TBH. It will run forever, it looks a lot nicer, and you won't suffer the hideous depreciation involved in buying a new car. Good luck whatever you choose though, Tom

I have to park mine on the street as I live in a flat, as long as you're in an OK area, and the neighbours are all right (and of course you have a Cat 1 on it) then I reckon you'd be all right. I'm currently touching the wooden desk that this keyboard's on, but I've had no problems since November... I wouldn't bother with the cover though tbh, just make sure it's well waxed, waxoyled etc. Welcome top the forum man, Tom

I had exactly the same thing when I had my Cat 2 system replaced with a Cat 1, they are a bunch of ****nuggets. Still, even it it makes chuff all difference to them, at least your car is more difficult to pinch now. Cheers, Tom

Much appreciated gents, a task for the weekend I think...

I'm pretty sure that it's 55litres/12 Gallons with the later ones being 70 litres/15 gallons. Cheers, Tom

It's the analogue one, and the speedo, tachometer and verything else still work fine. Musicman/ thanks for the links, I'll check them out as soon as I get a moment. Cheers, Tom

My odometer and trip have stopped clocking up the miles, although everything else in the unit still works. Am I right in thinking that it will be part of the speedo cable coming out of the back of the unit? If so, does anyone know if these cables are interchangable with MK2 Golfs, Passats etc? The car is a 1990 1.8 16v (and any photos or tips on the repair would be much appreciated). Cheers, Tom

jrabarton, That's really nice looking. What wheels are those? I've changed my headlamp relay for a 40amp one (hopefully this one won't melt), and next up comes a look at the HU and speaker wiring.

A friend of mine has a 106 Aztec on which the gearbox is shot and needs replacing. Given my limited knowledge of mechanicals, could anyone with experience of 106s tell me how difficult/easy a job this would be for 2 people and a Haynes manual. I'm also trying to find a Pug forum that isn't full of "I beat a Nova off the lights because I've got holes in my bonnet," to ask advice, but I'm having no luck so far. Can anyone help out? Cheers, Tom

Damn, I'm not going to be in the area this weekend, so I'll have to see if I can hear you from Kent :-)

Gutted for you man, I'll keep my eyes open in case they come North. Have you tried http://www.twoc.co.uk (I think that's the address) along with http://www.clubgti.com etc. I really hope they catch the little b*stards...

whats the most you have paid on your insurance premium?
TomB replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
I've just had a quote for under £500 with the AA, including protected discount, a total write off last year and 3 points, with exhaust and lowing declared. My best (worst) quote for my old 2.0l valver was in excess of £4000 from Zurich. Laugh? M'laud I nearly died. -
While this topic is being debated, I've just had a chap in the office say that he thinks I would get a whupping (theoretically of course) from his Bora 130 PD up to 100. With the mods to my valver, I think that 60 would be achievable in just over 7 secs to his 10 odd, but what about the next 40mph? If he's correct then I'm prepared to admit it, however my gut reaction was 'Torque monster or not, no chance.' Any comments? Cheers, Tom

Went for a drive the morning with a friend (pictures)

Nice pics, that's prompted me to go for a play tomorrow if the weather's nice. I love your wheels btw, black & red works so well... -
That looks beautiful, really well done man. Cheers, Tom

I'd keep the C (or switch to a VR6). Having been in a crash in one (rolled down the road upside down at about 40mph) and come out with only 2 bruises from where the seatbelt held me in so well, I'd say it's pretty safe. Ask Dinkus for further safety testimonials... :-)

I saw a Dark Green (VR6?) on 17" wheels on Monday night in York. Once going past Walmgate Bar up to Foss Islands Road around half eight, and about an hour later going past me on Hull Road. I would have waved but I was in a *cough* metro... (Sorry, Rover 100)
-
Welcome to the forum man, that's a quality car you've got there :-) Whereabout are you based? Cheers, Tom
-
I feel sorry for the workers, but I've been driving a Rover 111 (Metro) while delivering Pizza and it's nasty. Really nasty. It's an M reg, has more rust than my 'rado and drinks more petrol as well. Rover were just beginning to pull it together and given a year they might have been building quality cars. The £40 million got pulled out of the company by the directors for their bonuses and pensions probably didn't help either...

Not a fan, especially if you are unlucky enough to have one with the loathsome semi-automatic gearbox. A friend of mine swears by them, but I just swear at them.
