Oh well. Cheers gents. Tom

Sorry for the small pic, but I saw a set of these on an H reg Audi Coupe, and I'm guessing they came as standard. I know they're BBS, and I'm guessing 4 stud, but would the fitment be different? I thought they looked excellent, and would look rather good on a rado, but I need to find out what they are. Anyone?

Cracking idea, I'd definately buy one, and the montage is an excellent plan. Get as many cars in as possible as well as the 12 main stars.

chrishill, that really sucks, but I'm glad it all got sorted out, and cheers for the info on false positives. I've had to take 2 drugs tests so far, and I'll probably have to take another one within a couple of months, so that's useful to know in case anything goes wrong. Cheers, Tom

Ack ack ack ack (sorry, difficult to do a typed version of a Sid James laugh :-) )

G reg Tornado Red valver by the stray in Harrogate on Sunday afternoon. Could have been on 17" wheels but only caught a glimpse as I drove past.
-
A little too much I'd say, as I sold my '93 K plate (1.6TD) with only 170K on the clock for £325.

I think it's so that you can leave your car visible in the pitch black countryside when parked on a verge, to avoid getting rear ended. That's what I always used it for :-)

What is your 16v spec & how much power does it produce?
TomB replied to corradophil's topic in Engine Bay
1.8 16v KR with 2 exhaust cams, K&N panel filter and a Powerflow SS exhaust. It was 150bhp at the flywheel, 105bhp at the wheels. 126lbf-ft of torque at 5840rpm. This was however before the head rebuild, and I'm not taking it above 4000 revs for the moment :-) -
I've never owned a G60 (although I'd like one), but as a valver owner I'm quite happy with it. You have to work it to get the maximum pull, but if you are looking in terms of an everyday car and you're not that fussed about top speed, then I'd recommend the valver every time. Charger re-build aside, in terms of MPG, I average (town driving and A-roads) 33mpg or 400 miles per 12 gallon tank, whereas I think that a G60 is about 260 miles/tank. In terms of parts availabilty, the 1.8 16v had the same K-jet engine as the MK2 Golf Gti (the 16v one obviously :-) ) so bits are easier to obtain (just had to aquire a replacement cylinder head and camshaft). Top speed is about 135mph in the valver and more in the G60, which is also quicker to 60. As to working on it, I'm afraid I'm not the man to ask, being a coward where all things mechanical are concerned... I bought a valver because I couldn't afford to run a G60 or a VR6 and cylinder head rebuilds aside, I'm well chuffed with it. Good luck, Tom

Result! A girl to whom I give a lift to fencing who is not a great car fan (Micra driver) commented on Wednesday how good it looked and what a satisfying rumble it made at idle. Made up for getting stabbed in the toe :-)

nogrille, don't get insured with Highway (through a broker), they're cheap for a reason.

L*** APH, Black standard-looking VR6 wearing Speedlines (I think) in the centre of York about half one, being driven by a guy wearing a flourescent work vest. Anyone?
-
I do love driving it. Having just had it in the garage for 3 weeks having a rebuild (not by choice), I was seriously wondering why I bothered with it, and why I didn't just jack it in and get a £200 diesel from eBay, especially when I went to pick it up and the headlights stopped working and the bonnet release broke. THen I picked it up last Thuesday and actually drove it, and remember why I'd just committed myself to a year of debt.... I can't wait for the head to be run in though so I can take it above 4000 revs though :-) As to performance, it's good enough to outshine 90% of cars on the road...and it's 15 years old!

I really like that, the colour is cool and I like the wheels, but the only thing that niggles is the mirrors (or lack thereof). Cheers, Tom

Another different 'rado in York this evening, a white M-reg VR6 by the Railway Institute about 5:20 this evening. I gave the thumbs up (although I was on foot). Anyone?
-
Sounds like a plan. Not like York's the sort of area where you need to lock your doors when driving anyway... :-)

Replace busted black widget on door lock Change fuel filter Pay garage bill for cylinder head re-build :-)
-
I managed to catch the little black locking pin on my jacket last night snapping it off, so now I can't lock the car from the inside (not that this is really a problem). However, it's a niggle that I'd like to get fixed so does anyone know how easy it is to replace and what bits I'd need to remove? All work would be done on the street, so I might leave it for a month.... Cheers, Tom

It could be the ISV, as I had a similar problem with my old 2l valver. Disconnect and clean the internals out (I used Halfords brake cleaner on mine although I think I read somewhere that that might be too abrasive). Made a helluva difference. Good luck, Tom
-
Oh I see, he's got 6 exhausts, one for each cylinder...except it's an H-reg. Doh! Shame, as it looks nice apart from that.
-
Although strangely your old KR feels faster than my old 9A :-)
-
Scumbags. Hope you track 'em down (but at least they didn't try for the car itself).
-
G-reg tornado red rado (didn't see if it was a G60 or a valver as I only caught the slightest glimpse of the passenger side rear quarter) driving round the 180 degree bend in Fishergate in York this afternoon about 3:30 or so. York seems to be full of 'rados at the moment. Marvellous!

It sounds like an excellent idea, but I too have limited mechanical knowledge. Theoretically there's no reason that it shouldn't work, indeed a quick google tells me they raced a supercharged diesel at le Mans in the 1950s...
