What are my options with my Corrado? Sell? Convert?
_leon_ replied to _leon_'s topic in General Car Chat
lovely car - but the interior doesn't do it for me - i'm happy with the std interior - i'm a mountain biker and hill walker - that cream interior would be mince in no time ;) -

What are my options with my Corrado? Sell? Convert?

only after a 1.9 conversion and some other work - i'd expect as expensive than the 1.8T if not perhaps more? (given a 1.8T returns 1k from selling the G60 setup) -
What are my options with my Corrado? Sell? Convert?

yes it is lovely - however theres a lot of factors I need to consider. i dont think any of the options are particularly cheap - but still considerably cheaper than going with a different car - so i should stick with either of the 3. more opinions more opinions more opinions please! -
Ok ladies and gents - if you could perhaps give me some open opinions and thoughts on direction then that would be helpful. I've owned a g60 for the past 2 years and it's been great. At times and love hate relationship and due to discovering it needing a lot of TLC - i've poured a lot of effort and money into it. Friends both on here and away have watched it improve - i'd say after the 2 years dramatically. However, it's got to the stage where my enthusiasm was running thin and I arrived at the idea of another car for the 3rd time round. A week ago I was convinced selling up was the best move forward and looked into an S3. The S3 was not the car I thought it was - and despite being fast, handling on the quattro system superb, luxurious with the heated leather, multitude of gadgets and buttons to press, it just lacked the wow factor. As I explained to friends - I still walk out of my door, see the corrado and think - that cars awesome and thank goodness thats mine not my neighbours. I can not think what else on the market has that balance of style, fun and practicality (it can be practical in my opinion). At the moment I have a load of kit waiting to be fitted - big valve head with piper 285 cam, leda suspension, exhaust, various water system bits, new shaft seals/cam belt and vr6 clutch, new alternator, new distributor, new plugs and leads, new cv joints and new wheels and tyres, chip and pulley have just been fitted. Do I now consider; 1) rebuilding the bottom end and fit the above head, fit all the goodies above along with an intercooler and get it RR tuned. obviously keep it. Good fun driving - expensive in the long run I'd imagine - new engine essentially - limits progression in terms of performance unless go 1.9. 2) keep it yet 225bhp 1.8T it. Newer engine, good power from the word go - reliability? - price of actually doing this conversion... 3) sell it and all the parts (amounting to around £4k) and consider buying a friends well modded vr6 pumping out 225bhp with a rebuilt gearbox inc atb diff @ around (£5-6k) - solid car - price... - future mods? - am i really going to benefit? Money is the question - I don't have a lot as I also have a new mortgage to smile about - but I'm having a certain degree of difficulty determining what is the best option. Buying another car other than a Corrado isn't. My car has a long road in terms of tuning - but is it worth it? Is it worth swapping either car or engine to save all the expense and hassle? Any advice/opinions towards what may be most cost effective, what may be the most fun, what offers more in the long run, perhaps future options wise/reliability/etc - are most welcome. I've been incredibly indecisive about this for some time now and it's starting to do my head (and others). So help me work out what to do! They'll be detail I've missed out I'm sure so ask if something doesn't quite add up. Thanks :)

going to test drive a barrage of cars within the next few weeks. so will have input to this. i have my g60 sorn'ed just now and while i miss it - i feel i am coping fine without it. i do miss the performance but theres a lot i don't miss driving my other car. its not a smooth car to drive
-
2 seaters can't be compared to 4 seaters imo. they could be considered different categories of car. leon cupra r and integra would be the obvious choices to me
-
how have you been getting on with the s3 now?
-
as far as i'm aware mine never had a cat. but not 100% certain on that. just 98% ;)
-
surprised nobody posted on this. going schrick from gwerks anyhow
-
right - well mine will need insured with someone else - seriously pi$$ed off with elephant as after getting my first offense (sp30) they charged me an extra £141. my insurance is only £400 so what are they thinking.... disappointing about the no claims as i also have 2 years to use. was their price competitive against elephant? i have quite a few mods to declare now. thanks
-
3 bar on its own mate - no eyebrow
-
did you find them cheaper than other places like elephant etc? i hear elephant dont cover your insurance after a remap/removal of std chip...
-
anyone know where i can get one?
-
;) struan - any chance you could list the spec of your car (white or blue) please? I can see the sig but sure theres lots not mentioned there and in this case wheels etc dont make a difference. and yes I'd like to know about the intercoolers - PM me if you'd rather - as sandy said - hacking away material for fitting is not desirable... Thanks
-
yeah the other bits can be found realtively easily - new or second hand. just the 094 fitting kit is hard to find. good stuff bud
-
you can get the 094 fitting kit (only 1 left!!!) at http://www.rei.com/online/store/Product ... REI_SEARCH I bought the second last one earlier today @ £45.50 inc shipping. quite expensive but now I know I have one.... I tried the roofrack.co.uk place and they said they dont have any and who knows when the next ones will be available. Go to US for them. HTHs
-
I'm not 100% on that - ask Gwerks - I have a feeling they stock them. If they do then they'd be great - can do an intercooler/fan/radiator upgrade is one go. let me know if you can pls
-
after a good quality vernier pulley with outer in steel to save wear if possible. anyone know which vendors sell such a pulley please?
-
the IHI is an interesting route to take - and i'd stick with the G60 engine over swapping to 1.8T - you get to keep the investments you've made to date. plus theres still plenty of options. intercooler is logical next step imo
-
I'd say: - intercooler - have a look at the RadTec kits - port match the inlet manifold (you already have the TB done) - go for a screw charger over the g-lader. alternatively (like Lippy commented) look at IHIG60's car - he's gone for an 1870(ish) rebuild with forged pistons etc and converted to an IHI turbo. He's had to fit other things like leads etc etc which will have bumped up the cost - but he's now over 300bhp and similar torque - kills off scoobies and the like. But you could achieve a good figure you'd probably be happy with without going 1.9 and fitting the IHI - speak to _monkey_ (I think thats his name or something similar). I'd still consider a screw charger though.

got a heavy supersprint exhaust on mine and the polyflex items as you listed mike are fine. never had problems for the last 6-8 months of using them
-
thanks for that - i'll give them a call and write up here what i find :)
-
thanks mate. have you spoken to them about this fitting kit? where do they get it from? as i've heard from different dealers that it is still in production - and opposite from others.... interested in alternatives though
