was going to ask the same question! has either of your cars had any gearbox work done or are you running std g60 ratios?
-
Easily doable I think. You just probably wont be able to use your hands for all of it. Remove a few things and you'll plenty of access.

Multiple keys. Can i fix my door handles so i can have 1 key
_leon_ replied to quicky1980's topic in Interior
theres only one way the barrel can go into the handle - and yes youre right - it wont do a 1/4 turn (or whatever it is) if its wrong. I did eventually get it working by just giving it a little more force. So in the end the tumblers were incorrect (VW guys gave me some for nothing) and the barrel was very stiff - likely from no use in goodness knows how long. A bit of cleaning and greasing should have it working like new again :) Don't you just love it when a little curiosity and faith pays off with a well earned fix! -

ok, i've got the sequence correct for the tumblers - but still when put into the handle, the damn thing doesn't turn. There aren't any tumblers standing up when the key is fully in - so guessing the mechanism in the actual handle is broken... The barrel from the other handle won't go in fully either... Any ideas before I go buying a new handle? -
youre likely goign to have to try moving things till you find the highest point. The oil thats running will still be marked from the source.

rebuild the bottom end increasing your capacity and fitting a flowed head? ;) It is money that defines whats possible though. You could always try and get the work done over a longer period and buy a banger for 2 or 3 months. Yes it isn't ideal, but 2-3 months soon passes... Just an idea

CALLING ALL PAINT EXPERTS!!! Need advice on high temp paint
_leon_ replied to Blue_Joe's topic in Engine Bay
it shouldnt ever get that hot up there - but beadblasting and powdercoating it is adequate afaik. Mine is costing £30. -
the whistling doesnt bother me at all - i actually like it as its comical... every passenger always comments on it and has a chuckle ;)

i'm just getting the rocker cover powdercoated. It should be fine.... -
any chance of a complete spec listing? I'd still be very interested on seeing some video of either of your cars with this conversion!! :)
-
It will be when its done - it wont be any show car as I'm not into that - theres about another year and a half to two years I think before its all done. Should be brutal! And until I find out exactly what spec your current setup is I don't think its anything above yours.

I'm still a long way before I would consider getting anything like this done. Theres still the bottom end, head, gearbox, intercooler and suspension to do.... and possibly larger brakes...
-
are you using a sns chip with that lot?
-
did a new exhaust manifold get fitted with the conversion? looks like i'd lose my 4 branch if so...

cool - the key i have is just a normal key - so a VW one would be nicer ;) well 3 of them! feels good to finally have the locks nearly sorted. -

yeah shame that. just taken some out and see they have numbers on them - just as described by Ken above. So i'm just going to take the tumblers out in order on the other door that the key works on and note the sequence. Should be easy from there - I'm also on first name terms with my local VW so they should be able to help me out ;) Have no intention of paying £45! Anyone know how much it is to get VW to cut more keys? I only have 1 just now. Tom thanks for the help :) -

how do you know if youve got the correct tumblers in there? My key goes into the barrel - some tumblers sit higher than the others - and the wont turn. How do you know when a tumbler is correct for the slot? Should it sit level with the barrel? -
you might find some info here http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

you shot marvin in the head ;)
-
exactly - a lot of the stuff I have found with my car has been a bodge or done on the cheap. Hence why I am slowly moving around the car sorting everything. And I mean everything! Theres going to be a very happy day coming soon ;) Thanks for that info - I'm confident the interior is no problem to take out now - i'm dying to clean it all properly, esp the heater vents which have 10 years of cr@p on - hate looking at them everytime I'm in the car, sort out any dodgy wiring and also to get my boost (and eventually air and fuel ratio) gauge wired in easily. Going to change the heater fan for a new one while I do that lot. Glovebox - youre fortunate then as mine was an absolute .... to get out - it took an alarming amount of force to remove it - its been out for some months now as until I am finished sorting the interior I don't want to have to use that force on interior bits again and again! Thanks again for the info :)

lol ok I re-read - i might be able to yes - i'll have a chat with a few friends to see. i've enough to do to the car before the stage i would want to do the conversion but it seems a definately strong option.
-
if you could mate that would be great - i dont have a copy i'm afraid...
-
thats about right where i am then... those are some bills.... :) how long did the conversion take? was it a few days? have you any video clips of your car?

What's the going price to well tuned G60 1H lump?

discussion taken there ;) -
IHIG60 without giving any exact figures - how much roughly have you spent? I've gone through £5k and am only about 33-50% though the work I want to get done. As always money unfortunately has a hold of everything in this world. What order did you do most of the work? I am getting everything 100% and preparing things for putting the power in so won't actually have much more power for quite a while... interested to know what way others did theirs - same using a g-lader or bbm or turbo etc
