Bosnia or Croatia (Corrado) driving tips anyone?
jamiehamy replied to jamiehamy's topic in General Car Chat
Thanks! Just realising my insurance might not cover me as they are not EU countries, have requested specially so hopefully they will approve. So much to think about...the warning about landmines on the FCO website is slightly concerning, as well as the statistic of an average of one grenade attack per week. -
Planning on taking the Corrado in April for a couple of weeks. I know it's a tall order, but heyho, it'll be an adventure. I've been reading up on various websites, but only find the generic stuff and wondering if anyone else here has been out and driven there? If you have any hints, tip, or anything else to share, please let me know!

HOW TO FIT RED ILLUMINATION SWITCHES
jamiehamy replied to C488ADO's topic in [Archive] Wiki Submissions & Collaboration
How did you get the LED's out of the electric mirror switch? I took it apart but had no idea how to get the LED's out - they look pretty embedded and i didn't want to break anything. Cheers, J -
I've assumed it's so I can help jump start lesser cars :)

Wow, they are getting desperate for votes.. lol, I must admit, I was thinking something similar until I opened the thread!

Last day in work today, I've only been here just over a year. They got me a set of Genuine Corrado mats! What a great leaving gift, I think I must have talked about my Corrado a lot in work over the last year! No comments about the pink toolkit please, I don't know what implication was there. :camp:

David, uncalled for. I've gone from seriously considering borrowing dough to get a turbo, but then deciding to go for an R32. Then thoughts I've got enough points, a 2.8 24v will suffice. And now i'm just thinking of actually rebuilding a standard engine (because i've never done that before and would like to try it) and keeping it spare until mine dies. I don't need to setting me off thinking about 24v's again...lol

Talking of boring out a block, can most workshops do that, or is there a special machine required to take into account the V within one cylinder head? A guy i use for camber and stuff says most workshops won't be able to deal with the VR block.
-
It's just strange way to market it! Would be much more appealing split i reckon. Ah well. I've got a spare head but a missing piston puts me off to do a spare engine build.

This really made me laugh, a block and 5 pistons?! Hmmm... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-VR6-Engin ... 3cb48b23a3

Agreed. Used it often and it's brilliant. Halford equivilant was utter f-ish.

My Corrado is so reliable I never need to go there...*cough. lol

Come on Kev, (older but not too old) Alfa's and Fiats are amongst the most hollow and plasticy feelings cars I've sat in, and I used to be a car salesman and have sat in a lot of cars! Corrado feels like a Sherman tank comparatively!

I understand what you are saying. I suppose the first thing to do is check what clearance is available first on full lock for both sides and eliminate that. When you drive on full lock ( in a car park), are there any odd noises? I'll check mine tonight and see how it compares and get back to you. I doubt the mount will have anything to do with it tbh, so wouldn't stress too much about that.
-
where on earth do you get a Bosch for that kind of money? Euro are about £100 dearer!
-
When you say will not turn full lock, how have you defined full lock? How much of a difference is there between sides? Also, does it slowly mush to a stop, or can you feel it bumping at the end of it's travel? Does the pump start to whine more on the 'wrong' side? Overtime tracking can be aligned/realigned so much that you end up having more lock on one side than the other. Knowing how it feels will maybe help identify more closely what the cause might be :)

Had this for the weekend, loved it! LHD and 72mph tops. You don't drive it, you navigate it like a boat!

Hmmm...the more i look at the Alfa, the more i agree with myself.:) I can see the gearstick and remember a friend who had the 2litre. The shift was almost the same as a 1973 T2 Camper. The seats - not made for humans, i kept squirming and wriggling to try and be comfortable. The doors - I remember shutting it and panicking because I thought it had broken, going by the rattle noises. The doors - I genuinely thought something was wrong as it sounded like it was still open when driving, but apparently that's just the way it is. And the dash - fabricated from recycled televisions by the feel of it! Ahhh, the saying beauty is only skin deep is truly demonstrated by the pictures you have shown! You can quote me to your workmates!
-
Haha. I'm happy with my version of reality that is: the Alfa is better looking but literally that's all. Corrado's are for the more discerning buyer, Alfa's are for the people that don't know much about cars :)

Hmm, is it not going up in April (again)?!

Agree with this. The stabiliser is a diversion tactic. It doesn't address the fact that there is fundamentally too much duty on fuel. Imagine year on year, they increased VAT and income tax. It's not really much different. A fundamental shift is required, not some silly stabiliser. We'll love it when the price of oil rockets, but when it goes back down, we'll all want the benefit - which won't happen because 'behind the scenes' we got the benefit. Bring back the fuel protests, I'll happily live with the inconvenience as the point is proves is immense.

i have bee very lucky that the Corrado, to date, has never let me down. I do spend a lot on her, but always balance it with the thought that it's my hobby, as well as daily car. If i wasn't spending money on the Corrado, i'd be spending it on...a car of some sorts! My friends look at me strangely when i tell them i'd rather buy a balljoint than jeans or other consumerist rubbish! :-) though, when she's runnin poorly, as my other half says, i'm like a bear with a sore head!
