Am i the only one doing anything to my car these days?! Had the Corrado converted to run on LPG during the week. Used Profess Gas in Wales, did a sterling job. Car runs really well, slight loss of power when gunning it, but thats because it's running a bit weak on LPG, i'm slowly tuning to make it richer. Got a 43 litre donut tank in the spare wheel well, takes about 38litres. Car now runs at 25/26mpg (30/31 previously), giving me 220miles per tank. (which costs me £22 to fill!) Car runs more smoothly as well. It's fitted with an AC STAG 300 Plus system, seems pretty clever, but not too clever, which is good. Got software for mapping as well which is a bonus. All in all, very pleased, my car now costs the same to run as a 1.9TDi but sounds much better :) Will have paid for itself within the year too. If anyone has any questions on it, just let me know,

Okay, so maybe iIm being paranoid. lol put her on the road this morning and the power at the wheels is 165bhp. I was advised that will translate to about 180ish at the flywheel. There was some pinking going on which will have reduced power. Will go back to Optimax. I've changed back to standard filter instead of K&N panel and cleaned the MAF. Running nicely. WIll go back once I've had the LPG conversion done next week. All in all, i'm quite happy that most of the ponies are still there :) Hot downpipe!

so did the Corrado become the classic it was predicted to be

It's the best kept secret out there. Go and try find a car that does what the Corrado does for the same money - you can't. I've tried. Only thing that comes near is a Porsche 944 S2 ( which although fantastic all-rounder, has limitation for a daily driver). I reckon the Corrado is the most practical and affordable classic out there. But as posted before, no-one will ever know about it. To be honest, I feel quite smug about it :) -
Getting it done at AVA next to Glasgow Airport. I've got an ECU chip on it's way soon :) Strange thing is, i started running Esso Regular last night and the engine seems to run better. Fuel consumption is down about 2mpg on my daily runs, but engine pulls more strongly and happier revving. Strange! I'm defo not making it up. I've run Optimax/Ultimate for the last year as well. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what the old girl is putting out.

Booked in at 9am Sat for a run on the rolling road. Will post how i get on. As and when i find a cheap standard ECU/Chip, I'll go back and see how that alters things.
-
In fact I might just book the car onto the rolling road. That should give me a good idea of what going on power wise and whether I'm over analysing or not :) Thanks for the idea Kev :) Will report back. Now...must find accurate rolling road near Glasgow...hmm..

Maybe it's because i've been driving it too long and am accustomed, but i recall my old Mk3 VR's (albeit in 2.8 dizzy form) had no problems zipping up to the red line. Anything above 5.5/5.8 just doesn't produce much more oomph and whilst red line is possible, it takes a good effort to get there if you know what i mean? Also sounds quite harsh. I've posted a wanted for a standard ecu chip as the previous owner had the car chipped, but I've no idea the details. Maybe this has had an effect. Thanks for graph kev. I rarely actually hit the redline, but on the couple of occasions I have done, just doesn't feel great.

Maybe a little dramatic, but I'm not convinced the car is running at peak performance It will pull from 20mph in fifth gear no problem, go up steepish hills in fifth as long as I'm above 30mph and i can def feel the torque peaking at just over 4k rpm, but after about 5500rpm, i just feel there isn't much poke there. Two questions What might be the cause? - I scanned using vagcom and no problems highlighted. I run Optimax If the timing was out a tooth, I've read the ECU would compensate for this, but is there any way i can find out if this is happening? I'll be checking the timing this xmas as i might do the clutch, but wondered if anyone has any thoughts? As she's my daily driver, i can't afford the time to take everything apart just now. Thank you :)

Made more progress changing interior lights to red, window switches complete. Mirror switch came apart and was promtly reassembled - LEDs seem impossible to get to! Reinstalled the funky valve that goes from the head to the inlet manifold - it had been bypassed, but always carried oil. Finally, adjusted the rear hatch catch - on rattle alert and realised that the whole boot was moving when going over bumps - half the rattles are now gone!

'Business Analyst' for a software company near Glasgow. I say business analyst because it's a bit of everything, solution design, analysis, testing and so on. :) I'm surrounded by self confessed geeks, but am not a geek!
-
Doh! thank you.
-
I've always been curious as to what other Corrado fan do for a living. There's a lot of cracking technical knowledge on here, suggesting a large number of engineering minded people. What does everyone do? I'll start - Business Analyst/Solution Designer for a software company in Glasgow.

I did ny dash lights the other day by replacing the filter. I'm happy with the results. I've now done the displays too, and looks great. Like an aircraft cockpit! :)
-
Changed the dash lights to red. Still need to change the LCD displays, but have not got a small enough splined bit. It's not as pink as the pic, but much nicer on the eye. Displays next, then start the cabin lights next :)

Can i go for one of these with tap please? Can you PM me payment details? Thanks, j

Fitted mine tonight - amazing. Best mod along with fitting standard springs . (it's a kind of mod!)

Fitted my upgraded headlight loom...AMAZING! What a difference, esp on full beam. Just like a new car, white light not yellow. Also, soldered a rear number plate light wire after it was emergency bodged to get through the MOT (was the only item it 'failed' on. Finally, replaced the thermal fuse on the blower motor, so all 4 speeds are back.

I've posted with this kind of issue before, i find my car gets 'chattery' when warm. Sounds just fine cold. It's not a loud noise, just a kind of cyclical chattering that is similar to tappets, but about 1/4 as loud and not as destructive sounding. Will try a thicker oil next service ( due soon).

Can i have a pair please? Can you let me know payment details, Thanks, j

Compomotive MO 8x17 Classic 5-Spoke Ltd Edition

Stunning! I'd swap my OZ Ultra's for a set of these, and i like my Ultra's very much :) -
I had cash ready to buy a Bora diesel because i'm doing about 1500miles a month in the VR. I drove one and can't go through with it! Corrado is too comfortable, cosy, stable and smooth (and reliable). Of all the Forum's i'm on, this is pretty much at the top, great people and knowledge. Long Live the Corrado!

Hi, Please can i go for a 3 relay loom with the OEM connectors you have please? Can you PM me details please? Cheers, j

A small fortune, prob about 200 quid a month, but my justification is that she's never let me down ( burst oil pipe in France was my own fault). Plus, I'm over the top. I could spend nothing and she would keep going, but then i'd be less likely to reach my target of 200,000miles :) I spent £400 on fuel last month, and i get a genuine 30mpg. LPG is looming ever closer, just para it won't work.

Might be worth removing the lights switch and see how it goes. There's a strange link that mean if you have keys out, but switch dipped on, pull and hold main beam, then the indicators, heater and radio will all work. Maybe something is shorting in that switch. If is makes no difference, then possible you can eliminate the switch? Don't know if that will help.
