  1. heres part of the reason for the rebuild in the first place.... i have a whole box of other expensive bits that look just like this..... and the valve guides were really knakered..... just goes to show that a one owner car with full vwsh can still need work....
  2. erm, id say yes since its the temperature of the coolant that registers against the temp sender to turn the fan on.
  3. if its the dual speed fan switch for a vr6, the part number is: 191 959 481 C
  4. mine was overfueling because the valveguides were knakered.......
  5. john marchant is the man...jbmg40 on a few forums.
  6. i now have move of an idea of whats going on under the bonnet...which is nice :D another 80 miles and i can open it up :D
  7. finished it at 1am today..... having fixed the o-ring leak, the bit on the side of the head decided not to play ball...took it off to clean it out and change the funny chaped ring and noticed the head was pitted around where it needed to seal...... some gasket seal, a new gasket and 12 hours later...all was well :D knocked up 85 miles last night so today it should be run in enough for me to have a play :D
  8. ive spent the last few days at the garage helping el rebuild the vr, finally after near on 2 days straight, at 1am today we get it all back together and filled with fluids..... ....start it up and it hemorages all its collant from the pipe that runs along the front of the block...the o ring had poped. nothing feels so gutting. back today to strip it down again to get to the mo-foing o ring. im sure i'll love it when im back driving it, but right now i want to kill it. gah.
  9. easier said than done, vw were out of stock and already on a 6 week back order in germany when i asked for one.
  10. not problems exactly.....more oppertunties. the chains an clutch were beng done anyway, the hg was seeping so is being replaced. head went for a skim and it was discovered that the valve guides were knakered....not really a problem.....just took time for some to be tracked down. should be up and running later today, im down here now helping on the rebuild and learning a shed load about vw's! the mysteroius man in charge has just gone to pick up my inlet.... :D will catch up with you tomorrow gav.
  11. erm, one of those jobs for when the chains are off possibly.....thats how mines being done. plus head skim, and possibly internals in the head (exhaust valve guides seem to be a favourite). a head gasket set from vw invluding the bolts (3 different types of the buggers) is just over £125 plus vat.
  12. taking colour coding too far possibly....
  13. the storm was a uk only run out model....they got factory vr6's with leather/diferent wheels and stuck badges on them at the dealers :|
  14. yeah, the 16" seems to be a bit rarer too...which is nice.
  15. it might just be the release catch thats knackered mate....theyre about £4 on ebay for a metal one......
  16. im thinking 16" teledials......
  17. would just like to see whats been done already...so i can hopefully do something different! get ya pics out!
  18. ah yeah, a full rebuild is past bad and out the other side..........£600 odd of parts alone and thats if you can get away with rehoning the bores and reusing the old pistons and rods....
  19. its not soooo bad...just not cheap.
  20. mine is having the head rebuilt as we speak, exhaust valve guides were deed.......going to do 5k miles on the quantum that ive already bought for it, and then switch to the silkolene as kev suggests. oh, and my rocker cover gasket was knakered too.....peeing oil out onto the dizzy....
  21. on a similar thread....does anyone know which one is which? vagcom was coming up with an intermittent fault on number 2 sensor...is that front or back?
  22. the more I look at the pictures, the more sertain i become that he should never have been allowed to own not just that corrado, but possibly any car.....ever.
