Sadly only blank cheques i can find are rubberised. Thanks Dr Mat, forgot to ask for that one, id have to check the paper work but i believe it has been replaced earlier in its life, no harm in doing it again.

Well finally bitten the bullet getting booked in for the timing gear replacement. Third major trip to the garage in as many months of ownership. No Christmas for me this year. I am looking for advice on what else to replace while the C has its engine and gearbox out. I have asked for the following, Clutch Rear Engine Mount Gearbox Mount What else can you advise to do at the same time.

A non aggressive 10-15min drive brings my oil upto about 100. Worst ive seen after pasting it round the country lanes is about 108. Wouldnt worry unless it gets over 118.

Got this on mine, not very loud. I think its something to do with the gearbox, but i like to know exactly what it is.

You should hear a click if the starter is dead or jammed. Does your starter motor just not do anything or does it try and turn the engine ? If it is trying to turn the engine then its probably either/or leads and coilpack.

Sorry i dont have the answer but id like to do the opposite, mine seem too low, or maybe thats down to not having a new loom

Count me in if its the real deal, local dealer couldnt source one :( question though are you intending to get the Silver primed ones or the proper chromed ones ?

Im pretty certain its not the gauge, since i last filled up ive covered 269miles and it was reading in the last block before the red. After chucking £14 worth of petrol its now reading about half way so id says its about right. I'll have to try somewhere else :( Haven't had any trouble filling up before, guess I'll have to experiment with angles next time i pass a garage. Thanks for the advice

Hi All Got a very odd problem this morning, took the C down the garage to fill it up. Tank was just about empty, got £14 odd of BT ultimate and the pump cut off, tried again immediately cut off again. Ok, so i paid for that and moved to another pump, same again start to fill cuts out. What on earth can cause this, gauge says the tanks about half full.

Red C parked outside pub in Ludgershall about 5:20 tonight

damn might well be worth just getting it done in my case. Oh well another months wages to the C, this is worse than having a wife.

All good advise guys, but any rough ideas on how long it would take a mechanic to inspect ? Only asking because the cars off to the garage for a few more things, an extra charge for a bit of time might be well spent to gauge how old long my tensioner has got left.
-
How long would it take a mechanic to inspect the condition of the chain and tensioner ? I'm in a similar situation but cars on 114.5k would rather leave this job till it needs doing.

Thats pretty impressive, best ive seen is 32.8mpg

Hi All Really must stop asking so many questions. Trying to get to the bottom of a few oddities. 1: The C has started to make an odd noise when turning, if i turn gradually its makes a sort of twanging creaking sound, the more i turn the quicker the sound, when you reach about 1/2 lock it sort of becomes a dry graunching sound. Shortly after buying the car i had the tracking done, had a pull to the left. It's now started to return but only slightly. Not sure if it matters but ive noticed that the passengers side top mount sits about 1.5cm higher than the other. It's been mentioned it could be duff top mounts, but ive been out to try and better discribe whats going on. 2: When accelerating through low revs i can hear a very quiet whining sound, as soon as i left of the gas this goes away, hit 2.5k and engine noise drowns it out. Could this be belt or pump related ? 3: Finally a real pain, not quite a noise. Some times when pulling away in 1st clutch dipped the power drops, lights dim, fuel pump makes a lower hum and the battery light comes on. As soon as the car is moving all goes back to normal. I'll admit now my mechanical knowledge is pretty limited, just want to get this bugbears off my list.

Ah you might be onto something there, now taking the thread totally off topic. Clearly showing my lack on knowledge under the bonnet with the fluid. Top mounts could be something, had the tracking done about 3 weeks ago after i bought the car, wasnt convinced that all was right after having it done. Its due back in the garage soon for a bit more work, will ask them to take a look at that. Will also ask for them to check the brakes over too.

Hi All Just recently started to notice a few things on the C wondering if they are related. 1: Brakes, problem im having is they sometimes feel responsive other times they are very vague, almost as if they dont really want to work. Disks, pads and front callipers have been changed recently. This was done about 300 miles ago. 2: Clutch, this has started to feel on occasion rather heavy other times its a little lighter 3: Steering has started to make a graunching noise at about 1/2 - full lock, normal driving the steering is a little wobbly in the centre and evenly weighted once the wheels start to move. Car is due a service in a month times, after flicking through the service schedule i noticed its not had the brake fluid changed since 2001. Could all of the above have anything to do with this ? Thanks in advance

Fuel economy figure to rival an F-16 on full re-heat

Ouch 6.3mpg thats gotta hurt the wallet, worst ive seen out on my VR is 16mpg but pretty such that was an error in its part. Shoes cant say ive seen one of those on my travels, motorways tend to be scattered with single stray things, tyre, bumper, the girlfriend or a solitary shoe in this case.
