Currently having my suspension renewed. Rear: Shocks £30, Springs £47 Front: Shocks £55, Springs £?? Can't remember what i was quoted for the front springsthink its around £50. All prices are for single items. Havent had the front springs done yet, garage was sent too different poundage springs. I was shocked when i picked the car up, too high, nearly asked for the old ones back.

Got a strange problem with gear changes at the moment hoping someone can possible identify the cause. For the past month the gear change has become very grabby, not sure how best to describe it. No matter how well i try and change gears it always grab and causes a jolt as you come back out of the bite point. The higher the revs for more of a jolt, even at low speeds/revs and no matter how slowly i try it causes it, also doesnt get any better or worse with heat. I did get the clutch changed before Christmas while the car was in for engine work, i didnt have the problem then and I've covered roughly 1000miles since the change. Other thing i did notice after the engine work, id had the front mount changed and the nut nearest the front on the underside has sheared off. Any ideas and how as to whats causing this, wish it was as simple as better clutch control?

Interesting concept, but have to agree its not very pretty

Fuel piping id personally get a mechanic to deal with it, unless your a dab hand at that sort of think. Best to get things sorted if you can afford it rather than be sorry.

Im sure ill get corrected on this but around £800- £1000 for chain job. Normally while your doing that job its best to change the clutch too. I got quote £1280 from the local dealers to have the work carried out, but went to a specialist and got it all done for about 1k including a few other bits.

Found my bonnet earth snapped the other day. Where do you get replacements, or is it just as good to make your own ?

I can sympathise with you, going through the same rollercoaster at the moment. I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel soon as i cant afford to keep fixing things. Im sure the winter is bring out the worst in the old girl.

Stealers near me seem rather disinterested when i go to buy parts, i get the impression they dont like the DIY repairers out there. I now get most parts through my mechanic, very rarely do i visit VW these days.

Funny this, i had thought about this over the weekend. Wouldn't mind giving this a go.

Ive got the same problem, never get ice (touch wood) just steamed up windows. Did at one point have a soaked passenger side carpet, never found the cause. If there is a cure id like to know.

Sticking with BT Ultimate, car likes it and thats all that matters. Tried Optimax a few times but car always runs badly afterwards. Same happens when i use Shell diesel in the other car. Im sure its a problem with the garage than Shell in general.

Need some help again, my passengers side door will no longer unlock. The knob raises about 5mm and gives up. The interior handle wont open it, the knob will not budge when trying to lift it. Key in the door activates the CL but wont open the door. Any ideas on how to open the door.

I'm hoping someone might be able to assist in shedding some light on a problem with my steering. A little while ago i had the tracking done on my C sorted out the pull to the left. After a few weeks it came back again, took car into the garage. I had the top mounts and front shocks replaced, have a full four wheel alignment. All was good for a few days then the pull to the left returned. I've just got the it back from a second trip to the garage to have the track rod ends and ball joints replaced, another trip for wheel alignment. All seems fine but there is a slight quirk that's a little odd. I was driving home and had to make a shape right turn. I heard a twangy noise from the front end, just one twang at about 2/3 lock. Once i had straightened up the car felt heavy on the right and seemed to want to wander to the right. Trying to correct this i found a nice shape left turn and again it did the same another twang and then the steering was nice and even again. Any ideas whats going on and how to correct this.

Not long since had mine done, wish id had the garage space and equipment to do it myself. Knowing me id have given up half way and left it all to collect dust. Thing i had to laugh at was my mechanic gave me all the timing parts in a carrier bag when he'd finished. One expensive carry out.
-
No company that im aware off sells the reflectors on there own. All you can really do is keep an eye out for someone selling the lights second hand or take a trip to a breakers.
-
Just had mine done with VW, my mechanic took it there as one of the jobs id booked the car in for with him. On the invoice he's charged me £90 for a full 4 wheel alignment.

My old VR used to lock all doors when you press the drivers door pin, new one however does not do this. One of the silly little things i can be bothered with at the moment, but if there is a quick fix ill try it out. BTW CL works either by turning the key in the door or remote.

Hi All Just got my car back from a rather long and expensive trip to the garage. Among the list of repairs the Timing chain is now sorted :) no more tin can sounds. Anyway just taken the car out for a blast and noticed its getting hotter than it used to. Now sits around 100 - 110'c water and 112'c oil. Used to be around 90-95'c water and 106'c oil. This anything to be concerned about ? Same driving conditions. Fan came on for about 5mins after i got home. Never done that before, used to maybe flick on for a few seconds. Possible airlock ? Also clutch was replaced, what a difference that makes effortless gear change. But is the peddle meant to feel really light ? had a nice weight too it before. Cheers

You need to take the headlight off the car. Undo the two screws on the top edge of the light, then loosen the one in the middle. To get to it you will need a long screw driver to reach through the hole in the slam panel. Then unclip the cable connector from the back. Change bulb and repeat in reverse When removing be careful not to drop the headlamp.
