  1. has it got the automatic seatbelts? I can't work out whether they would be cool, or annoying
  2. Frank Jnr!! 8) Loving the G60 corradowales, you trying to start a corrado cartel? buying up all the local stock to control supply. Ken Thorne'll be waking up with a horses head on his pillow (if he hasn't already!)
  3. Hi all, the rack seals in my 1990 16v have seen better days, it needs reconditioning, but I want to replace it so that I can keep the car as my daily driver, does anyone know if the rack was common to other cars, i.e. would a 1.4 Vento/Mk3 Golf have the same rack? The rack changed around chassis number WVW******010000 i think - mine is before ('91) and so should yours be - steering rack part number = 192 422 061P - 36 splines I got a kit that replaces all seals for £45 (bit steep) because I didn't have time to get it reconned as mine is also a daily driver. Loads of places do a recon rack exchange, ie you get one and pay a deposit then you get the deposit back when you give them yours. Western Power steering in Bristol were very helpful as were Jay Gee in Wolverhampton.
  4. thanks Henny !
  5. Hey guys, i'm replacing the rack on my 16v this weekend, which haynes manual would be closest do you reckon? mk 2/3 golf?
  6. Henny - did you get a pm from me, it doesn't seem to have gone through mate
  7. Hi guys, I had installed the bentley manual a while ago and it was working fine. It's not working now so i want to reinstall it. Problem is, I can find the installer file so i can't uninstall it and when i put the cd in none of the files show at all so i can't run the setup file. Can someone end me the setup.exe file please? thanks
  8. Yep Indeedy - you have a pm! :D
  9. you're telling me - my thermostat stuck closed and the heater matrix blew up on the edgware road filling the car with steam! So take it steady No worries Oh and although it's documented that the light flashes when temp is high it also flashes when level is low, trust me
  10. well i'll tell you, his observation stinks, he didn't see me flashing him to pull in so i could get past for at least 2 miles, :batman:
  11. Sounds like thermostat to me. Check the level of the coolant in the header tank (Black cap DO NOT open when the car has been running!!) as the temp light flashes when the coolant level is low, if it's empty you either have a leak or a blockage (if system is blocked pressure builds up and steam escapes from header cap). if you find a leak, fix it. If not: Seeing as we know the fans are working it not them, when you have run the car for a bit and the temp has gone up, check the temperature of the two big pipes connecting to the left of the radiator. If top one is hot and rock solid and bottom one is cold - you have a blockage in the coolant system which is likely to be a failed thermostat or blocked radiator. Let us know more symptoms when you've checked these
  12. h100vw, Whitedog, it is called Jay Gee - 01902 404258 - the bloke is really helpful - they drop the new one off and give you a couple of days to replace it before they pick up your old one. corradowales, Thanks very much for the offer fella, i think i'll be taking you up on that advice and no doubt buying you several pints in the future :) Cheers buddy, :) fingers crossed I Might be mate, I'm going to have a good look this w/e and tighten everything up before buying a new'un. two garages have said that it wants replacing and steering is pretty noisy TBH - it doesn't seem to be losing fluid, the MOT guy said it was leaking oil although he may have meant fluid, just preparing myself for the worst. Thanks mate, gonna leave it til next weekend now though as i have to confirm the part number etc with Jay Gee before they send the new one and fortunately they'll send the new one before picking up the old one so theres no headache having the car sit there without one (got 14 days to get it all sorted and it's a daily driver, not a trolley dolly ).
  13. I found a place in Wolverhampton that'll do a recon unit for £125 delivered (whew). I'm surprised the guy at GSF didn't tell me about a recon option though dr_mat. I have secured some ramps and my Bentley CD covers the replacement AFAIK - so i'll take some pics of the carnage over this w/e (or next) for anyone who does it in the future. didn't really need this, got a job interview on Monday!
  14. F**K ME! a new steering rack is £500!!!! that's 1/4th the value of the whole car! I could buy two golfs for that. Does anyone know anywhere that may sell them a wee bit cheaper? tried GSF, they don't stock it.
  15. Thanks for that guys - i don't have a ramp and the bloke at the garage (corradowales - radcliffe in Llanharry - only use them for MOTs usually) said that it'll be about 2 hours labour plus parts, might just bite the bullet and let him do it - it's not a particularly "Corrado" job is it? Otherwise I'd rather take it to a better garage.
  16. That's great guys thanks, will try that the other failure was oil leaking from the steering rack, how difficult a job is this to replace?
  17. Hey all, my C just failed the MOT on a couple of things but the main one was "excessive wheel bearing play on the rear" - is the passive rear steering anything to do with this or am i wishhful thinking?
  18. but not having an armrest makes your car unique - you can't be that bothered abbout passenger comfort, you bought a corrado after all!
  19. lol yeah must have been, it was uncanny (only saw him from outside of course) Ok lying but had actually just got in from London (10:45) and needed cheap beer - it was worth braving the pikies :gag:
  20. Yeah i heard hampshire was a bit rough
  21. Hey corradowales - were you in Central Bar, Cardiff on Saturday night?
  22. I'm with Henny on this - in the last pic the front seats look dark grey and the backs are that sh!tty colour. I reckon it's the flash
