Have a look, and keep all comments in this thread. I'll lock this one.

Hello and welcome :) There's someone who knows a lot about the different gear ratio's around here somewhere - I'm sure they'll be along soon.
-
Spot on! 8) Cheers - oh and welcome to the forum :)

I have to disagree with the comment about the VR's low-down power. I think that until you get it about about 3.5k then it lacks a little. Once you get it past this, it's when the fun begins. It's still superbly torquey and gives you lots of poke, even in 4th, for example. But just to compare my VR to my old 8v Golf, the Golf would have the VR off the line and probably all the way until the VR hits about 4k in 2nd and 3rd.

Ah it's the monthly 'shall I buy a VR or a G60' thread is it?! :) Don't fanny round with a G60, with having to get the charger serviced every 40k! Buy a VR and stick a supercharger on it! /dons flame-suit.

Exturbo - could you please resize your pic a bit please? I know we don't have any set rules at the moment but we prefer you to have a small pic as an avatar under your username and whatever you like in your signature - usually a description of your car. Cheers

I think he means the pre-oiled K&N filter types. The ones you clean and re-oil yourseldf.

......In other words......a lot!! ;)

There's a couple of G60 engine's in the classifieds.
-
750 - 900 - ain't a great deal of difference on a rev-counter.
-
Sorry - I was just interpreting the 'damage' bit. I don't see how it will affect the engine other than it idling too high or low or erratically. Clean out the ISV is normally one of the first things to try. What does yours idle at then? No probs re wrong section - it's what we're here for ;)
-
It should idle around 900. If it idle's too high/low, how is it going to cause damage? It's not a tuning or mod either so i'll put this into general.

His name on here is Dubcharged. Here he is

Sorry - that's more the other way round :) Still might be useful though :)

What's your budget? Performance figures - vary quite a lot from place to place but the G60 is quicker than the 1.8 valver. Someone will post them up I'm sure. The G60 stopped in late '92 so if you're after a newer (facelifted model - from '92) then go for the valver. http://www.veedub.co.uk I think has quite a good classifieds also http://www.clubgti.com has a classifieds, as do we here on this forum :) The G60 is the one to go for if you are looking to tune it though.

What 'S'?? ;) ;) :)

Personally, I'd try to do as much of it as possible yourself. The weather's nice afterall! Things like throttle cable and top mounts should be easy enough. I think the gearbox mount can be a bit of a pain but the front one is not too bad a job to do. Try and save as much as possible and then you have more cash to spend on it :)

Joe - you can edit your posts if you ever want to change something.

ChrisVR6nos is from sunderland and there is at least another one that is near him - James I think?

Rams - Bananannaman has a thread of his own for purchasing stuff from the motor factors. Probably best posting in there.
-
Yeah we could do that as well. Would be nice to keep everything 'in-house' as it were.

On the main forum's page - at the top right above the top-most forum, are 3 buttons. View my posts. View posts since last visit. View unanswered posts. Self-explanatory really. They are really useful - the 'view posts since last visit' especially so as it saves you jumping about between forums and just gives you a list of newly replied threads.
