That's one reason why I was particuarly annoyed that the main dealer couldn't/wouldn't solve my ABS problem, as I knew I was driving around with only semi-operational ABS. Luckily the one time I did need it, when a lady stepped out in front of my car, the light was off and hence the ABS was working, and indeed did work, otherwise I'd have had this lady bouncing off my bonnet. Was actually one of things that I thought about when looking for a C to buy, as my last car BMW E36 coupe had ABS and I didn't really want to have a car that didn't have the same.

Great thanks for the advice. I'll take a look later.

HELP - Temperature light flashing! first time for a year
kerrinmay replied to iandavidcassidy's topic in Engine Bay
My coolant temp is normally about 10 - 15 degrees less than my oil. Does this sound ok? It's just that the guy at my garage keeps saying about how the coolant should warm up before the oil does so I'm not too sure. My oil has only ever gone up to about 112 degrees max and normally it's a bit less than that. -
I had intermittant problem with my ABS light, kept coming on every now and then while driving. Asked main dealer to look at the problem twice and both times they said there was no reported fault, yet when I took it to an independant VW specialist the fault came up striaght away on the computer. Turned out to be a dirty big brake pedal travel sensor. Works fine now a new one has been fitted.

They're quite cheap, but how come the 50mm is more expensive than the 90mm? Wonder if I should get a 50mm one in preparation for the day (some way in the future) when I get my car lowered.

Don't know if this is related, but occasionally I seem to somehow get the car into 2nd gear awkwardly, as if the lever has gone in the wrong place. The car does actually go into 2nd but then the lever is a b*gg*r to shift back out, almost needing two hands. What might this be?

Has anyone noticed any kind of pattern with regards to when their C starts cutting out? With mine it appears to be more of a problem when I've been doing a lot of start/stop and slowing down etc. I've only had two really bad episodes with it happening almost every time I come to a junction etc (one of them being Friday). Other than that I just seem to get the odd one or two cut outs every once in a while.

Spotted dark blue VR6 'K' reg at traffic lights at bottom of M275 in Portsmouth this morning approx 8.30am.

Are they expensive (and easy) to replace on a 16v?
-
Is this problem know to affect the 2.0 16v? Because my cuts out occasionally when I pop it out of gear slowing down at a junction for example. It's when the car should be idling but seems to fail to and the revs drop and it cuts out. Always re-starts straight away though.

My C had two lady owners from new when I bought it in October and I saw that at the time as a good selling point, however now I'm not so sure, considering everything that I've had to do to it since buying it! OK, the car has only done 83k, and 2k of them I've done myself, and although I believe the first lady owner that had the car for about 11 years kept it well maintained, the lady I bought it from obviously didn't!

Is there any easy way to tell if the thermostat is stuck open without pulling it all apart? VW main dealer did put a new one in when they replaced my water pump back in November and then did various other bits and pieces relating to cooling such as new radiator, about 4 new coolant bottles, oh and head gasket! So I wouldn't be surprised if it's something they have done! I'm sure when I first got the car in October the coolant temperature warmed up fine.
-
Is that still an ok temperature though? What about the fact that the engine temp is warming up quicker than the coolant? Does/Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a problem or not worth concerning myself with?
-
Just been recommended by my VW specialist about putting in ZX1 to my engine, I've told him that I'll leave it for now as rather dubious about the whole thing having read all of the comments on this thread! The guy was recommending it because my engine temp is apparently warming up a bit quicker than the coolant so he thinks that maybe there is excess friction in the engine. I'm not too sure myself. The guy has already told me that I've got one of the quietest 16v's that he's heard. Any opinions, or suggestions on why the temps might be they way they are? Think the warmest I've ever seen my engine temp get is 112 degrees. Does this sound ok?

When you say the side bolster I presume you mean the side of the seat? Can you also get the side bit for the backrest? And would you know how much?
-
Seeing that this thread was originally Jan last year, does anyone know if you can still get the side bolster foam bits?

Pretty easy to fit, just took me a bit of time cleaning all the old sticky out before fitting the new ones. Makes a world of difference though. http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16595

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but I agree with jimsG60 about not push-starting your car, not sure if there are further reasons related to the VR6, but you should never try to push-start a car fitted with a catalytic convertor.

Mine just unscrewed.

Should the washer bottle just slide straight out (upwards) or is there anything that needs to be undone first? I was trying to get mine out at the weekend as it had got quite low and looked inside to find it with a nice layer or crud at the bottom.

I had very similar problems with mine, and ended up having getting through about 3 expansion tanks! Apparently the problem (according to VW) was that c**p/scale etc was coming through the system into the expansion tank and killing the sensors! After VW gave my coolant a proper flush through and re-fill and another new expansion tank (at their expense), touch-wood I've not had any re-occurance of the problem.

Think it's just done 83,400, not bad for a 13 year old! Especially considering my old car (which my partner now has) just ticked over to 147,000 last week and that is a 12 year old.

What are the chances that the Corrado Club email address is working if their website is down? I finally got around to fishing out there details as still no Sprinter mag since joining and all I have are snail-mail addresses and email addresses, so ended up firing off an email. I'm now just wondering if they'll actually get it. I really can't believe it's been down for so long. There must be a big problem with it all, or no-one has any time to fix it.

I checked last night and the sunroof definately doesn't close with the closure thing. Is it possible to put a later control module in or something to get it to work? Or is it not that simple?

Do ATRIM do stuff for cars other than BMW's then, as there site only mentions beamers?
