Went out to the car today and the remote for the alarm wasnt workng, had a look inside and the clocks were blank. Pretty sure its the battery as its been dry before and I topped it up and ive noticed the car turning over slower on the starter the last few days. So, whats the recommended battery, will a cheap one from a motor factors do or should I be trying to get a better one, also, what rating should I get? Finally, once ive got the battery in, how do I check the alternator? Is it as simple as putting a multimeter across the terminals of the battery with engine running and making sure it reads higher than 12v?

Instructions attached, you only need to do the first part, dont worry about the vag com bit.

The revs on mine dropped like a brick for a while, never had a prob with stalling though. It was cured by an ecu reset, this might help AndyVR6, but I think you just done a reset Kev? Other things to check that can be difficult to spot on vr's are slight vacuum leaks.

Looking at the bottom left corner of the first pic it looks Twilight Violet, same as mine. Very nice colour. :D Hard to tell with the second pic. matt buz, welcome to the forum.

The manifold talked about on the vortex is the one from mk4 golfs, not sure if its the later 12v engine (dont even think we get this over here) or the 24v 4motion engine. It does use a variable intake, but the throttle body is at the opposite side I think so there are some hassles to fitting. It was a while ago I read about this so I cant remember the exact details but in the end it seemed more sensible to try and find a used schrick as its less hassle. (If u can find one.)

Talking about fuel, even though american fuel appears to be a lower octane it is measured differently. Ours is measured in r.o.n. and theres is measured in p.o.n. I think this means something like our 98 is equivalent to there 94 so theres nothing to worry about there.

Where abouts can you see the arcing? If its where the leads plug into the coil pack then it could be the coil pack itself. :( There is a fix involving epoxy resin. Do a search for "epoxy" as im sure its been discussed before.

emax, Euan Maxwell I take it? If thats John Webster's old VSR I was third in the list of people wanting it, just behind you. Jammy get. Still on the lookout if anbody knows of a used one.

The central locking on C's p***es me off, mine has resorted to activating the total closure as soon as I turn the ignition off, my passenger lock does the same as your drivers lock and my drivers lock does the same as your passengers. To lock my car ive had to resort to getting out with the ignition on, having the window open so I can push the button down to lock the doors then taking the key out to close the windows. I can then set the alarm which doesnt lock the doors anymore, but does unlock them as it should. :?

The mounts are filled with something, but it sounds like theres too much of a mess for it to be that. :?

What people say about the Corrado vr6 being front heavy is a myth, its just the standard suspension makes it feel that way. Upgrade the suspension and the front heavy feeling totaly dissapeers. I remember a magazine saying that the extra weight actually improves grip to the front wheels and also consider that the car that replaced the Corrado as best handling fwd (The Integra Type R) has exactly the same front/rear weight distribution as the Corrado vr6. 8) Sorry, had to let that out after all the front heavy vr6 comments.

I dont think they do the chronos in a 16", 15 or 17's only. :x

Wait till its reading near empty, ive found with a lot of cars that for some strange reason the needle drops to half a tank pretty quick then starts dropping slower so even if its reading half there is probably a good bit more petrol in it than that.

Where did u vent it to? I had mine in the wing and the fuel vapours were awful so I put the carbon canister back in. :?
-
COUGS, sorry about the delay but as promised heres some pics of the pump ive got spare, at the very least it will show you what you get when buying a new one so you know if the damaged part is included or not, pm me if you want this one.

Best quote I could get anywhere was 1700 odd, went to elephant and it was about 1300 odd. Declared my mods (suspension, exaust) and it went up to 1600 odd so still cheaper than everyone else, give them a go and if u spend a bit of time messing about on there site you can see how certain mods affect the quote. eg. £60 for an induction kit, go away for supercharger, 150 for suspension.

Dont like that idea VR6, never know when a trip to Europe may be called for.

Go on then, im in. 8) Would also prefer x1000.

I asked about it when I was at bedrock vw's. The guy said it was normal and all vr's do it. He also mentioned that they have a habit of randomly exploding when too much fuel vapour builds up inside them.
-
The exaust doesnt really come in to it, its the fuel tank breather that goes into the carbon canister and this is then fed back into the intake system via a valve that is pulsed on startup. I also had a fault code coming up when i had the cc removed as I had removed the valve and left the plug hanging.

I actually just put mine back in, the petrol fumes were terrible, even with it vented to the wing. I never noticed any difference with it out either tho I do plan to relocate it in the future and get an air feed in place.

Sorry to hear that. I had a couple of dodgy moments in my old 16v but thankfully never done any damage. I take it you drove home with the spare on, how was the car driving then? Any pulling to one side or anything like that? Corrados are tough cars and alloys can be relatively soft so hopefully the wheel took the brunt of the damage. Worst case scenario, u could need a whole new rear axle assembley and dunno what else. Another thing to consider is why did the rear end swing out so easily? If it was wet then it can happen but it looks dry out there to me so could be s*** tyres or worn bushes/shockers something along them lines.
