  1. About ten years ago or longer I kept Betta Splendens or Siamese fighters. Loved them, really interesting fish. Beautiful to look and I bred them too. Well, sort of, I couldn't get them past a certain age as the food they ate was so tiny, as were they, it was difficult to gauge how much to feed etc and provide a varied diet. I would love to get back in to it but with proper Thai fish.
  2. In that case, not only should it be a simple fix but it'll likely be a cheap one too. Of course, there's no guarantee of either! Cheap and simple? That would be a first for me. :)
  3. Cheers. I'll check out the idle and Honda forum. It's definitely a cold start problem, no such probs when restarting a few minutes later.
  4. I was actually looking for a manual choke the other morning. The way it runs it's just like manual choke cars used to, that juddering as you eased the choke? I have no idea Phil what icv or pcv is? Was mentioned earlier in thread too. I think?
  5. OK, thanks for the replies. A mixed bag of 'em too. I never thought to try and start it after a run. I've only incurred the problem from cold start as that's all I've done. I was looking for ideas as to the nature of the problem not what to do with the car, being a Rover and all that, but thanks anyway. I'll check it out and see what can be done, with my 'skills', that won't be very much. I was just wondering if it might be something obvious. Cheers, Rover fans.
  6. I have the use of a Rover 45 for a while. It runs, surprisingly, very well. Except... , when you first turn it over it fires up, idles for about ten seconds then stalls with the battery light illuminated in the instrument panel. To actually get the car to go you have to rev the titz off it. At 4am this can be a little annoying for the neighbours, so I'd definitely appreciate any thoughts on this. Torching it, is not an option. Once the car is running for a couple of minutes it's absolutely fine. :awesome:
  7. This is one depressing read. Sorry for your serious missfortune, what a dick.
  8. How much does it cost for a tank of 'normal' fuel, Goldie? How many miles do you get from relaxed driving (ie. not caneing it, ) from that tank? Thanks.
  9. Thanks, coullstar. I'll probably do 10k tops next year so it might be do-able. I want to get a Corrado first and foremost but there aren't many good examples around at the moment for the money. I've looked at Boras, Leons and Oktavia vRS's but I think I'd be more content driving the 4motion day in day out. Cheers.
  10. I've been checking out the Mk4 4motion, seems to be well respected, with only a few down sides like low MPG and the pretty dull appearance. I've read of some getting 35+MPG on longer journeys and as low as 20 or so in town. What's the experience of any owners on this forum? Is it comparable to a VR6 in terms of MPG return? My drive to work is 21 miles of good country roads with 55-60 MPH constant driving, no stopping for traffic or lights etc. Anyone?
  11. Thanks KIPVW. Glad you got yours sorted, seems like a good result, your Nugget must've been in great nick. It's hard to get good money for a Corrado these days. Cheers, dub envy. £2600? Christ, you wouldn't think so to look at it. I know that's labour too, VAG prices eh? I know. I've been under a fair bit of pressure from the trouble and strife to get this resolved and I think that played a part in letting them take it. I'm about to learn a hard lesson by the looks of it. Now, where can I get a nice Rover 200 from?..
  12. Well, the dick that works for the salvage firm has taken the car. I asked what would happen to it, he was extremely rude and unhelpful so I called the company and they say it will be stored until a decision is made either way. I've posted all the necessary paperwork to the insurance company along with Autotrader ads etc. So I'll have to just wait and see what happens now.I probably won't hear back until the new year. The salvage firm is in England, . Quality. So if I do decide to buy the car back, will they tell me what is required to fix the car or will they just tell me the car is a write off and which category? If I accept a settlement and buy from the salvage, what are the salvage likely to charge me? Even if I find a buyer locally will they still charge for transportation? The car is drivable. Just. That would be to prevent the car being scrapped, going to someone on here. I had a look and to me it looks as if the wheel arch lining which has buckled on both sides (Front) might be restricting movement. The metal where the splitter is, is all pushed back and as I said the steering is labored from side to side. Thanks.
  13. Thanks bristolbaron, I don't want the car scrapped, I don't think it's necessary. I'm no mechanic but surely it's not scrap. Cheers.
  14. Once again, thanks all for the input. The car was supposed to be taken away today but no sign of the salvage firm. I had a Punto (Thanks) courtesy car delivered and have it for 21 days, I really need this to be dealt with rapidly as I live 21 miles from my work place and work shifts so I don't think I have an option with keeping the car until an evaluation is made as that could really drag on. By the way, they say that the car is a write off due to it's age. They don't even need to see the damage to state this. I mentioned that the repair might only be £500 so why would they give me a settlement sum far in excess of that? Can't remember what the call handler said but it made me think, might they get a hand from the government in some way with this? It wouldn't make sense otherwise. The call handler asked if I would be interested in buying the car back. I said that as I'm not a mechanic I can't assess the damage and make that call myself and my mechanic is some distance away. Hmm... So, in a nutshell, I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. Although my car is showing every single day of it's fifteen years it really saddens me to think this could be it. It's my schitt heap and I like it that way, it's never let me down and it still looks great dog-eared, battle scarred and filthy. What would the insurance company do, do you think if I refused collection before an offer is made? I'll try and get pics up tomorrow if possible. How will I know if chassis legs are bent? Stupid I know, but where exactly are they situated? There's a fair amount of bent stuff under there. The insurance company base their offer on condition etc. and Glass's guide, anyone know the approx. valuation Glass estimate? I think I might be too far for you jamiehamy, I'm in Moffat. I appreciate the offer, though. Thank you. Ah, OK. That's where lies the chassis legs then. Cheers.
  15. Thanks all. I hope it gets repaired, but something tells me they will write this off in a minute.
  16. I had an accident 3 days ago about half three am in severe ice and snow conditions on the way to work. Approaching a relatively gentle left hand bend and the back end lost grip and the car went 360 degrees hit a fence, hedge and wall. You wouldn't think the car has been off the road to look at it but on closer inspection underneath where the splitter(?) is, there's a fair bit of damage with the metal pushed right back, the steering is very heavy to maneuver left or right. Luckily I had my seat belt on and am OK but got a fright as the car went in to the opposite side where the oncoming traffic, which is usually heavy goods, wouldn't have seen me until the very last minute. I know we all have a go at times about the build quality of these cars but the front end took a hell of a lot of punishment and there isn't a scratch at the bonnet etc. where other cars might well have crumpled. The insurance company are collecting the car today, although they haven't inspected it yet it looks like it's odds on to be a write off. I take it they'll offer me a desultory sum if this goes to settlement? 119k on the clock with the car not exactly in showroom condition. :(
  17. Manhunter. 6/10. Most of that 6 for the 80's goodness, style/tunes etc. The acting wasn't great though, Hopkins/Foster/Fiennes etc.much better.
  18. Received mine this morning. Thanks very much for setting this up. Nicely done. :)
  19. Thanks. Yeah that seems likely. Why go to all that bother though, just get a Sport? All he 'gets' of A CS is deleted rear seats/less electrics? The CS is quite a premium over the Sport, generally. I think the Sport is pretty good close though, I'd get the seats from the CS.
  20. 'The CS came in Black, Maritime Blue, Guards Red, Grand Prix White and Speed Yellow. The red, white or black Club Sport script down the side was standard on the CS but was a no cost option to delete it from the spec.' Cheers. Well the colour's not club Sport standard at least, good source of info.
  21. Could be a Sport with rear seats taken out? Maybe colour was an option, seems a bit of Sport and bit of Club.
