  1. Thanks, you're right, there's not a hell of a lot else for the corrado so it'll just be a case of getting stuck in.
  2. I've had the manual for ages and it's in, I'm ashamed to say, pristine condition. I've always fancied working on the car myself but due to time constraints, haven't. So, hoping to make a start on it now my question is, how similar is my Euro VR6 to the SLC or American VR? The manual refers to a PG or AAA engine throughout. Am I right in saying the European model is ABV? If I am to work on the car using the manual as a guide is there much of a difference in bodywork, electrics, exhaust, engine etc? Thanks
  3. I've just noticed I have something similar to this too. The car is used now for very short journeys (shame on me, about a mile to and from railway station). Mine isn't quite so bad but is exactly the same colour/consistency. The car has been shamefully neglected due to laziness, lack of money, schitty weather. What signs are there that it could be head gasket? If it is head gasket is that going to cost plenty?
  4. Oh yeah, Isley Brothers, 3+3.
  5. Tune. I used to be a big Charlatans fan. Some Friendly, remember buying the album, not going to school. smoking stuff. Those were the days, my friend.
  6. It's a tough decision. Cheap noddy car with potential to cost me in future, or more reliable but dearer Passat, Golf etc... It will be a few months before I have to make a decision, but it certainly has to be the right one because if I buy another car and it costs me like the Corrado has this year, I'm in the schitt. Thanks for all the input.
  7. Reliability and build quality are definitely aspects that I need to strongly consider as much as price. No good having a cheap 80mpg noddy car that wont start in the morning. It's actually 110 miles all in. 55 each way. Even with excellent mpg figures of around 40mpg the Corrado would cost way too much to run, unfortunately. I did toy with the idea of getting LPG fitted... The KA seems to be very popular here. What kind of mpg would you expect from motorway driving? My commute is good in that it is a constant journey not broken by traffic lights and heavy town traffic. I will look at the Fabia and Ibiza also... Thanks for the helpful replies.
  8. Yip the Golf, Polo and Audis were my first port of call but they are just too expensive. As it's going to be a third car it needs to be cheap for tax, ins, petrol and so on. I'm trying to justify keeping the Corrado so going this cheap is my only option really.
  9. Seat Arosa? Thanks, I'll look into that one. Spending a grand seems good to me. Since when has VW been making them?
  10. I will shortly be starting a new career, which is sexy, but much less sexy is the monstrous daily commute I'll be undertaking(50+ miles). I'm fighting to keep the Corrado and the keys will be prised only from my cold, lifeless hands. So at less than 40 MPG the C is clearly not going to be the daily hack. Thing is, I promised the missus a new set of wheels (long story). So we're going to be a three car family, I need a cheap, reliable, economic wonder. I've looked at; Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo, Daihatsu Charade, Citroen C1, Smart ForTwo... Of these, the Charade is the cheapest second hand at about £1700+, I really can't afford even three grand for the others. Are there any other models/makes that can give me mega MPG? I'm not bothered about whether it's ten years old or whatever, I just need a reliable commuter. I've tried to get MPG figures for cars that I've looked at but it's hard to decipher what's genuine and what's fanciful. Any suggestions welcome.
  11. Back today from a nice break in the New Galloway forest, great roads to drive on and at a leisurely 55-60 MPH I achieved a constant 38-40 MPG from my VR6. Not too bad.
  12. Ahhh! chuftie by proxy, my favourite! My missus came back from a supermarket stress trip tonight in the Corrado and informed me that a geezer in a Golf with bodykit (that's as much as I got) was flashing her. Her words. He loved my "really old" wheels, and was "excited". Now I'm worried. Why is it that you're Corrado always looks like schit when someone stops you to appreciate it? Mine has serious issues at the moment, and most of them involve throwing money I'll never see again at it. I'm now into year 5 of owning my Corrado and the honeymoon period has well and truly come and gone, but every now and then it earns it's keep...
  13. Thanks for the help. detached the pump and mucked about with it. Solved.
  14. Thanks mate. I've tried pushing it down but there's no movement.
  15. Save a Corrado today* I can't open the tank flap, yet the central locking is working (with a completely inoperable drivers door handle). I've got the manual out, and to quote: " Then push the locking rod in front of the white diaphragm housing in direction of arrow slightly downwards". What arrow? Or am I missing something? I can see the rod and have had what is know technically as a 'footer', but nothing seems to be moving. Anyone got a clue about this? I'm low on fuel, and the missus is seriously low on love for the Corrado, after what seems like endless months of our once flourishing bank account being decimated in a one car demolition job. Recently the central locking has been making a clicking sound as the car is unlocked (like a pin isn't engaging properly), now, the sound is no longer. Surely it must be related to this issue? Any help appreciated. * Or 'er indoors will torch it.
  16. My Corrado is starting to complain now. For one reason or another I only drive it short distances and irregularly, which isn't helping matters. At the moment the drivers door handle has gone (no big deal, just a pain in the arse), allied to the £300 I had to shell out for the new alarm yesterday and a few hundred a month ago or so for some random ignition nonsense, it's getting costly. I now find myself defending it from the missus' jibes about it costing us the earth and can't really say much except it's 14 years old, it happens. Luvs the Corrado, just learning the hard way that if you don't keep on top of it, things can get costly.
  17. My VR6 is playing up big time at the moment. The latest thing is the alarm, which is out of synch and needs attention as it is currently immobilized. Anyone here know of any good mobile alarm fitters in Glasgow/East Kilbride area? Thanks
  18. A few days ago driving along quite the thing and my Corrado suddenly lost power and inexplicably came to a halt. I couldn't get the car to start again so headed the few hundred yards back to my flat leaving the car abandoned in the middle of the road. When I got back a few minutes later, a guy stopped nearby in his wife's Mk3 Golf and said " Nice car mate, I'll get my taxi and give you a tow, we VW'ers need to stick together". And he did. Coming back a few minutes later only to find that his tow rope didn't go through the eyelet on the Corrado, then he proceeds to tell me that he had to get his dog put down earlier that day for biting people, and produces one of those extendable dog leads that he then fixes to my car and then tows me in this manner round the corner to my flat. He knew where to take the car as he had admired it driving through the area previously. What a nice geezer. Would you get that treatment in a Vectra? The car is still at the garage and they appear to be none the wiser as to the actual problem.
  19. Already tried email - he hasn't responded. Have tried to contact also but to no avail. It's really poor that this guy has stitched us up like this. :bad-words:
  20. It's not getting predictable, it's there now : Shitty cars with things stuck on hilariously, A N other ferrari nailed round the track. One of the three racing some nobs who can't grow up and either skate/cycle/pogo when they should really be leaving that to teenagers. How about a star in a fu**ing Lotus Exige?.. that's got a nice ring to it. And sketches like the dude jumping over the cars on the ramp was just lazy filler nonsense. Don't get me wrong I still watch and do like the presenters, I just think they've gotten incredibly lazy and need to ditch some of the aforementioned boringnessness.
  21. When you spoke to Andy, did he mention anything about giving back the money he took in advance for the looms? I tried PM'ing him on March 1st, but he hasn't picked up the message yet and I don't have an alternative means of contact. I have a feeling that money is going to be difficult to recoup. We were told some cobblers about the looms being 95% ready months ago. I'm definitely going to PM for my money back  , as if. The way the whole thing has been handled is nothing short of a disgrace.
  22. What to do?... they (the pedals)seem okay, mildly gay, maybe. Why wasn't I born with the looks of Keith Chegwin and the intellect of Clooney? Pedals on the Corrado= schitt. God damn. Deal with.
  23. Thanks, my cars never been called classy before :D I've not seen another N516 Corrado yet, could be from the same dealer perhaps? Blocks of reg numbers used to be allocated to dealers for new cars. I'll dig out the info from my car history folder. Got any pics or a gallery :? I got mine in England, but can't remember the town/dealer it was sold from new. Should check the history also. Will start a gallery next week (it's only taken me three years  ), on holiday and giving the car a first wash in.. months.
  24. Man, another classy classic green VR. I've been shamed into giving mine some much-needed TLC. My Storm also has N516 at the start of the reg. Wonder if that's just coincidence, or did many CG VRs have that reg?..
  25. I'd be very happy if my Storm looked like that. I can understand the owner's thoughts on it too though. A corrado on RS's is a stunning sight.
