Uber shizzle. You do have a knack for finding rare and sexy rims mate.

The whole reliability issue is a false one to me. The manufacturers seem to be more interested in offering no quibble complete arse kissing waranties with the cars so WHEN they do break down (and they will from time to time) the customer can be dazzled by the sheer brilliance of the customer service which in turn might keep them loyal to the brand. But what you say is true dr_mat, the old image of Ford standing for fix or repair daily is long gone. Cheap or free is what the punter wants, so bunging in a free warantee **sp goes some way to sealing the deal. I mean what other reason would there be to buy a new kia?

There is nowt wrong with the scoobys image IMO, and Ford could do with a bit of what Subaru put on their cornflakes anyway. But VW seem to think they are punching above their weight when it comes to pricing, they have tried to set themselves between Ford and Audi pricewise. The market seems to stand for it and pay the inflated costs, and as a result the cars seem to be regarded as better. However im sure if I had the money I would go for a new mk5 over a civic or ST because I believe in the brand and that is important to me. It may be that Im lacking in common sense but Id rather a car I could look at and be proud of rather than just something which might be technically brilliant or outlandish to look at.

Ah right, I understood the sandwich bit to be the Raditor itself. So What you are all saying is fit it and shut up :D
-
Wood in a Rado should be reserved for back seat lovin.

Ah, Cheers for that, as per my sig, Vince rekons I need a new front mount asap. Im thinking I will go with the mocal. What about temps in the winter? can you cover it with a sock or something to lower its effectiveness?

Bringing this one up again as the air temp has started to go up. I had some fun on sunday up against a z3, after about half an hout my oil temp was up to 124, Well it was 14 deg outside and it got me a thinking about the oil temp debate again. I bought a mocal cooler back in the group buy but never got round to fitting it, Now Im thinking is it worth it? or do I just flush coolant, new oil and a new VAG oil cooler. My main concern id that if a mocal doesn't let the oil get warm enough then the oil aint doing what its supposed to and at big revs the pressure will be more than it should. What do ya reckon? sell the mocal and just refit the origional stuff or Fit what Ive bought and stop worying?

Sounds like moonshine to me. hic.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? Having them stuck on is illeeeegal? What about halfrauds selling replacement plates to all and sundry and advising you to use sticky pads? It all comes down to how its been treated :) people say timing chains need doing on a VR after 100k but see above, Maybe think about the rubber perishing after 12+ years so might be an idea to replace hoses. If you loose coolant at speed tings can get expensive quickly. Regular oil changes and servicing seem to be the best way of keeping em alive, IIRC andi's the site owner was on origonal chains and was at 210k, just serviced regularly. Also dont thrash it from cold if you can help it. damage to engines at cold temps is the absolute killer, also the oil isn't runny yet so there will be increased oil pressure and resistance. But by the by mine has given me very few problems and she was my daily driver for the first 10 months of ownership. If you are worried about being off the road then a copy of german sweedish and french catalogue and a small amount of spanner skills can go a long way. either that or befriend a spanner monkey.

Ah, looks like a solid 8 minutes of cruising the site before posting :norty:

Why first and last?? what went wrong?

Hmm, Not cool, What make was it? You may be able to contact the maker and get a replacement if you have the paperwork for it, but halfords do a locking wheel nut remover if it comes to the worst. but then you have to buy a new set of nuts aswell.

my local tyre fitter is an agent for pristine and when in there the other week he showed me their work on a set of AMG merc wheels. to put it bluntly you could not tell they had ever been on a car. Fantastic quality,

What really cheap car do I buy? Suggestions please
ZippyVR6 replied to mrbeige's topic in General Car Chat
The AX was a hoot, I had much fun in mine for a year or so. Its a state of mind thing to get them round corners though, You have to pre-lean them the right way and then let inertia do the rest. You cant just tug on the steering wheel and expect the jelly to react, But 25 quid went on for ever, 60 mpg on motorways and a ton was doable, (for the brave). There are still plenty of them about also. so finding a goodun would be easy. Also the gaps you can squeeze through are mind bending, also quite funny to listen to the squeal of tyres and beeping horns as someone tries to follow you through a tight gap. -
Well. If it is a family issue to use a particular grease monkey (no offense intended). Id point out that the garage didn't spot these potentially life threatening problems before the MOT so cant be that much cop, and what would be more important a bit of family loyalty or a damaged and skint son?
