  1. Cheers mate, yeah I remember that! You still local? Had a look at your build thread earlier, liking the work you've done on your current motor, good skills!! 8) The PlastX stuff is pretty much T-Cut for plastics I reckon. Rub it on, let it dry, buff it off, really good results though, you couldn't see through mine before, this stuff makes them really crystal clear again. Read good things about it on here, so picked some up off Ebay. Good for the rears too!! Yeah, i'm just down the road in burntwood. Cheers, its took a while but i've got past the hard stuff now, should be ready for an mot soon, then there'll be another rado flying round cannock (well once its run in that is) Really need to get myself some of that then, my front lights look like they've been sandblasted.
  2. car is looking superb mate, perfect height. :luvlove: Personally i prefer red rears with white cut out, but it looks good either way.
  3. Hi matt, I had some standard rear lights off you many moons ago and saw this. Looked nice then. Bet it looks lovely and fresh now. Every cloud and all that. Whats the score with the plastx stuff, does it clean up plastics/glass i'm guessing?
  4. Cheers Karl, yeah its nice to hear a vr ticking over on my drive again, and after the rebuild it just sounds so smooth, looking forward to taking it for good blast once its all been ran in. Manifold was just a quick tidy up, really pleased with how its come out, will probably get it powder coated white eventually for that harder wearing finish. Cheers, i started it about 18 months ago, but had to stop when i got made redundant shortly after...but if you have all the bits i reckon you could do the conversion in a weekend. The conversion was the easy bit really, the full rebuild was what i didnt have a clue about, but help from friends has taught me alot. Yeah you can never have enough help and advice on jobs like this. Think it certainly helps to be a nut. Have you informed dvla about your swap?
  5. From what i remember from my mk2 owning days, the top of the grill does protrude slightly more than the bottom, so yeah, i think its normal. Sweet looking mk2 with the perfect engine of choice.
  6. Yeah, think the lad threw the mk3 ones on shortly before selling it. i have a reciept from a breakers for them. They went to a friend who buckled one of his, so i picked up the p/pots quite cheap for the time being. I like them, and they are near perfect, and they'll just be a winter rim in the long term.
  7. Cheers phil, its been a long old process but its well worth it now to hear her ticking over again. Seems to be ok, although i havent had it running for longer than about half hour at a time at the minute. PITA to keep clean though  My mate has done his with black hammerite and is holding up very well. Cheers. Thats what i thought too.....got plenty of plans for it but it seems like a very good base car for the money. Are they intergrale rims on your red one in your sig??? They look nice.
  8. Well, as some of you may have noticed i'm back after being away from the forum for nearly 2 years, and a lot has changed. I've now got twin boys, was made redundant from a well paid job and managed to get a job that doesn't pay so well, and i got rid of my mint low mileage flash red vr....... ....this is where this story begins. I always regretted getting rid of it and it wasnt long after that i started pining for another corrado, although this time i was gonna do it properly....ie. have it as a second car. In the past trying to run a vr rado as a daily was just too expensive, but this way round i could do everything at my own pace and throw money at it when it was there. So i got on ebay one drunken night and the next morning i had discovered i had bought a flash red 1993 vr blind, thats right, i hadnt even viewed it. Well the pics looked good and i got it for £1020, t+t'd. It was another auto but i didnt worry about this. So i went and picked it up and this is it the morning after.....it seemed like quite a good buy, mint interior, clean bodywork and it drove without any problems at all. Myself and a friend then decided to remove all the old alarms (x3) and imobilisers and was left with this pile... Now after removing all this junk the auto box decided it wasnt going to play ball anymore and went into limp mode. This was just the problem i was waiting for so before i knew it i had started collecting the bits to do the auto to manual conversion. And so it began.... My mate Paul helping... And its out...!! Box off At this point i was talked into carrying out an engine rebuild, so i agreed, spent a lot of money on all the bits and cracked on. One worn chain guide..... Hole for clutch master cylinder Out with the old, in with the new... Now at this point i seemed to not have taken any photos of the progress for some time as not a lot happened in the following 18 months (well except kids and redundancy) But earlier this year (2010) we decided to have a final push to see if we could get it back in and running. So this is it in, but not running....confused and trying to figure out why. After some help (thanks Fla and the guide) i was confronted with this......  Finally it worked, one running engine, two very happy chappys (me on the left) Thought i would brighten it up a little with a can of left over hammerite Getting there And as it stands tonight, all done and back together :D  Theres still a few things to sort out like the reverse light wiring, and i've been told the speed sensor wiring, but at the minute i am one happy chap who cant stop smiling  I'm never getting rid of her now, not after going through all that
  9. This'll look alright once sprayed....and you've replaced the number plate over the top of it.... But its up to you mate.
  10. I hate threads like this, reckon we should be allowed to rig our cars up to a f'in big battery and fry the bar stewards. :bad-words:
  11. No, not yet. Auto loom is still in, i thought i could just use this loom to wire in the reverse light switch......didnt know i had to do the speed sensor too.....  Thought this just plugged in off the normal loom??? Guessing i'll have to have a proper read of your thread before the weekend then.
  12. Well i had a go at this tonight and hey presto it works......   :norty: :luvlove: :D :salute:  I've edited my original post with the answers to my questions so hopefully this will help any people mad enough to attempt this in future (ha ha its not really that bad in fairness) Just need to figure out why its not firing now, fuel spark etc...........chuffed to bits though...... "..it's ALIVE..." Cheers for the help of previous members posts regarding this matter. Love this forum :luvlove:
  13. lovley car mate, and that colour :luvlove: Although i am slightly biased, i have a mk3 golf gti in that colour too and when clean in sunlight its one of the best colours out there. (its for sale soon, you should buy it and have a matching pair :D )
  14. mmmm, gotta love a nugget, looks ace mate, especially on them 928's.
  15. ha ha, i guessed it would be you who replied, whenever this conversion is talked about you seem to be the main chap  I've read thru your thread, got some info off there, think i know what to do, but really need advice on if i need to splice or replace, and how you make a fat wire fit in a thin wires hole
  16. Answers now attached Hi all, Well its been probably 18 months since i've last been on here properly and i'll explain all later. I have a query to throw at all you guys who have done the auto to manual conversion. I've carried out the conversion without any probs (mechanics i'm ok with) and am almost ready to fire her up but i just need clarification that i am understanding the wiring correctly (auto electrics not so ok with). SO...i need to remove the thick black/red cable from position 8 on the starter relay (relay 150) and put it into F1 on the F block? Ans. Yes There is already a thin red wire in this position (F1), do i remove this or does it need splicing into the thicker black/red cable? Ans. Just remove the thin red wire from position F1 and REPLACE it with the thick black/red one. You can buy the proper spades for this so it just pushes back into the block. Also, how do you put the thick cable with a bigger spade into a slot for a thinner wire that uses a smaller spade? What have you guys done? Ans. As answer above, the spade is a small spade with the ability to put a larger wire in. Then if the above is right i just move the black wire and black/blue wire from positions 4 and 5 on the starter relay to positions F6 and F7 on the F block? Do they need splicing into the wires already there of the same colour or just take out whats already there and insert the others? Ans. Easiest method i found to do this is cut the black wire and black/blue wire in the F block (positions F6 and F7) so there is about 2in coming out of the back of the block, then cut the same colour wires from the starter relay no. 150 (positions 4 and 5) and join them to the cut wires in the F block matching up the colours. Best to use crimps and heat shrink or a suitable alternative. I hope this makes sense to some of you and are able to answer, its took me a day to get my head around it, i'm soo close now it hurts  Thanks :salute:
  17. :onfire: :onfire: :onfire: :onfire: :onfire: :onfire:
  18. Coming along nicely......plus its red so it gets my vote. Red rado's for the win!!!
  19. That really sucks. If only we could catch them and put them in place of the blocks the little sh*ts. Although if you value your car at that price then i'm sure it would not be written off, a lot of the parts you could probably aquire from off here, everyone would help you i'm certain of that. Good luck with it all, it'll soon be all sorted and back on the road putting a smile on your face.
  20. You couldn't drive that anywhere without getting strange looks :nono:
  21. Think a lad (Jez if i recall correctly) on E38 was running a set of these on his early passat estate, looked ace on that.
  22. This has come a long way already, and it sounds like its gonna be going a lot further too. Loving the arches, proper fat stance. Looking forward to seeing this progress. Keep up the good work...a true inspiration.
  23. Gave mine a wash tonight whilst the weather was good, got some funny looks being as its sitting on 4 axle stands with no wheels, front bumper or engine fitted.
