  1. Will be good to see the photos. :) Should show a good bit of a difference. Really really appreciated having you guys to help, it did make a big difference to me having other people helping with stuff. Really regret not hearing/seeing it going. That's probably the biggest regret of the weekend, even worse than trying to chat the vicars girlfriend up.... I need to obtain... Rear carrier to hub bolts Alternator Tyres Cleaned injectors More paint to sort the slam panel out Battery
  2. Those chains will probably be ok. Don't buy the top tensioner pad from them though. Get a MK4 unit and the bolt to go with it. Let the company who skim the head etc source and fit the guides and stem seals. You need to skim the head no matter what.
  3. Definitely get the chains, tensioners and clutch done at the same time, head refurbed, valve guides and stem seals replaced, head skimmed, water pump replaced. Big bill, but should be good for a hundred thousand miles once it's done.
  4. Good find Jim! I'll pop round and see a mate and see if they have any at some point this week, if not I might buy a box. :)
  5. Cheers dude. How are you getting on with the conversion? No worries, you stayed a lot longer than you'd planned to, didn't you? Really appreciate the help :) Fancy a VR as a daily then? :) Today we cracked on and managed to get a load more work done. Brakes bled all round. Engine and gearbox dropped in, PAS system refilled and fluid pumped through. Few brakets refitted in the engine bay, clutch slave connected, gear shift connected. Rear suspension removed, found lots of rust in the turrets :( Cleaned and applied rust killer, primed and painted rear suspension turrets, will apply more paint and waxoyl tomorrow and fit rear shocks. One of the things I was pleased with is the waxoyl gun I've borrowed which connects to the airline. With the waxoyl heated up nicely it seems to give a good layer. Pretty much filled the rad support panel with wax hopefully it'll keep it nice and tidy for some time to come. Have been poking it in any holes in the chassis rails and giving it a good blast. Sprayed the inner arches and front shocks too.
  6. Morning. Just fitted 288s with goodridge hoses to my vr, having sold the 280 calipers with the pipes attached a long time back. Now I don't have the rubber grommets to hold the hoses to the suspension strut so that the hose can't chafe. Anyone got any solutions? Or alternatives? Cheers! Tom.
  7. Massive thanks to Dirtytorque, who only popped by to say hello, MicVR and MrBeige for today's amazing efforts. Now have the front subframe in, front brakes fitted and connected, new hard lines right through the car. New bias valve on and connected. Lots of items soaked in waxoyl including the front panel inside and out. All ready to drop the engine and gearbox in tomorrow, which will be nice :) Just need to connect one more brake hose, then can start bleeding the brakes.

    MAF types

The earlier type MAF was used until quite late. The very early VR6s had distributors and 6 pin MAFs, the later ones had coilpacks and initially 6 pin MAFs, before moving onto the 4 pin MAF.
  9. How come you need a water temp sensor? What's wrong with the one on your dash?
  10. The forced induction VR6 thread would probably be best for this information. There's been a few comments on turbo suitability already, have you tried searching?
  11. Been doing more in the last couple of evenings. Rubbed back and re-primed the bonnet as I wasn't happy with it. Fitted the front engine mount, cleaned and painted more brackets, the driveshafts and the rad support panel. Fitted a few pipes and brackets to the block, cleaned up the crack pipe hole too. Then went through the bags of nuts and bolts and sorted them all out. Took me 5 minutes to work out what the 5 13mm bolts were, finally struck me that they are for the PAS pump. Generally been fiddling about with stuff, getting more and more prepared for the weekend. :) Forgot to order a couple of bits though :?

    I Passed !!

Congratulations Wendy. Will have to catch up as soon as I've finished gimping around with my car. :)
  14. Of course we do, Siobhan. I even tried phoning you today. I might have been planning on calling you Margaret, and offering you HRT tablets, but I have an interest in your car too...
  15. Now now, Cassandra, no good apportioning blame elsewhere... Exactly. Just go back to your car Sharon, and be happy with the progress.
  16. Yeah, I was gonna say. I'm not the one putting a 24v turbo in my car! Who are you calling mentally unhinged? Who are you calling Janet? My name is JOE!!!!!! Calm down Barbara!
  17. I meant buy a new car.... seriously these Corrado's are over-rated! Yup, old rusty bollocks.
  18. Because they last 5 years plus, easily...
  19. Darwin would have been proud if the pipe on the hydraulics had burst....
  20. Lol. There's plenty to do! Hopefully we'll get the brakes fitted and bled, the engine and box in, and suspension sorted all round this weekend. And if we manage that, we can fit various bits of interior... Trying to get everything done so there's no holdups at the weekend. Don't want you to come down and have to twiddle your thumbs because I forgot to paint something or have forgotten a part. Looking forward to seeing the pair of you. Going to iron my special cuddling pants especially :)
  21. Hello Martin, how're things? I often think about that night. And the mild look of horror on your face. Things weren't going well that evening! Your car(s) still good? Tonight I went and rummaged about the spare parts I have and unsuccessfully tried rebuilding an old CV I had lying around. I then found a quite good one on a driveshaft I had knocking around, after a bit of cleaning, it came up quite well. Managed to fix all the issues with the driveshafts by fitting all of the washers and all the right way round. :? Fork knows what the last person thought they were doing with the car... Either way, a £50 has been avoided. Rubbed the paint down on the shell, and painted the front engine mount. Need to pick up more paint tomorrow, and get the driveshafts and bodywork painted.
  22. Try Greg Howells (sp?) in Southam. Good rep apparently.
  23. I love the Vantage. Would have one over nearly any other car. Nomnomnom.
  24. They are 2 different generations of calipers. You can swap them over, but it might be worthwhile swapping both so that there are no issues with differences in the handbrake efficiency. Alternatively, have you tried a screw type stud extractor on the bleed nipple? Might be worth giving the nipple a tap with a hammer and punch to help free it up before trying the extractor.
