    Potholes

You can... The main defence that the council will use is that if they did not know about the pothole, then they couldn't have fixed it. Basically if noone reported it, or it wasn't picked up on an inspection before you hit it, they won't pay out. Contact the local council and ask to be put through to the highways department. Get photos, and an approximate size etc, and be prepared for a wait, you'll probably not see anything in the way of compensation for 3 months or so, if you do happen to win...

    TIMING CHAINS

Yes you can. But you will need to remove the gearbox etc to do it. The top chain stretches a fair bit too. I personally wouldn't go to all the faff or expense of taking it apart just to do one guide, one tensioner pad and the tensioner bolt.
  3. Shame dude..... :( What's the plan now then?
  4. Might be that the circlip on the gear lever base missing. Lift the ear lever surround up and look to see if the side to side movement of the lever causes the actual lever to slide on the pivot pin. I can't quite word that correctly right now... Sorry!
  5. Isn't that just driing from one end of Jersey to the other?
  6. Isn't it officially entered as Honda already? Hence the Brawn name not really meaning a lot. I know very little about F1, just what I pick up here and there, I have a colleague who is a marshall in his spare time and will be working at Melbourne, as well as meeting the fella from Mclaren. Personally, I find F1 dull, and would rather be seeing how long it takes me to burn my scrotum on a candle than watching the "sport".
  7. The way the engines sit makes a difference too. the 6 cylinder engines are tilted forward, whereas the old 4 cylinder engines were sat back a lot more. I'm not sure about the 1.8/2.0T
  8. The Honda car isn't fulfilling the new requirements, the car that has set the times would not be allowed to race... Hehe. :D The thing is, that post is entirely true. :)
  9. Yup. It's the relief valve in the pump blowing off. They don't like being wound right round to the very extremes of the steering lock.
  10. Cheers Toad, ah so it's quite low down then, I think I'll just bolt the Mk3 one on then, it looks easy enough to do, the scrappie outside Stockbridge has got one, so I'll just nip down there on friday....Still have to pick those seats up mate, are you about on Friday? Where's that?? I'm not too far from Stockbridge. Is it the one out on the Salisbury road? Did you still want the seats?
  11. The square ones were fitted to the early cars, and sit sort of alongside and below the battery on the inside of the inner wing. If it helps you to imagine where it is, the weight on the gear shift hits it. I don't think the late cars have the bracket for the tank.
  12. I'm having a meal with a Williams F1 team employee tonight. All I've discovered is that he doesn't like it when I flash.
  13. One of the cars in Germany had a loose rear caliper carrier while we pootled around. Quickly nipped up on the side of the road in a busy part of Osnabruk though. :)

    Music thread...

Ooooh, copy of Ladyhawke would be good... Cheers! Not going to the AGM but I will be at Fishers Pond. :)
  15. Ignoring the vibration, yes the clutch is hydraulic, and the take off pipe is relatively high in the brake fluid resevoir. And seriously, "booting it" when you know you've got low brake fluid???? :cuckoo:
  16. Did you take the needle off?

On L's today then Jon? I must get some LadyHawke in my life. Been listening to all sorts again. Making mix cds to give to mates and stuff...

    fuel pump?

If it's noisey, it's probably tired. Tried changing the filter yet? There are actually 2 pumps on the 16v, an in tank lift pump, and the main pump under the floor of the car. If the lift pump fails it can put the main pump under more stress making it noisier. The KJet uses unusually high fuel pressures, hence the twin pump setup.
  21. There's 2 different units for the VR, one with one 50A fuse, and one with a 5A, a 10A and a 50A fuse, and then theres the 4 cylinder version. Good plan. I've already repaired my controller as a diode had melted off of the PCB when I bought the car. I'm going to swap it out completely hopefully with a nice shiny new controller from Dave for the Spal fans I'm going to fit.
  22. It's the right number I think, but you have the "B" revision. Actually, it's off a 9A or 2E engined car. So 2l 16v or 8v
  23. Take 1 VR6, strip completely, hot dip galvanise, respray, rebuilt VR engine, rebuilt gearbox, new 288 brakes, new wishbones (TT/GTi Bushes), new rear beam, all new hoses, OBDII conversion, refurbed speedlines, Shrick, schimmel 263 cams, plenty of sound deadening, new lights all round, new glass, moonroof. Then use as a runaround. Take 1 16v, strip completely hot dip galvanise, respray, nw rear beam, wishbones, suspension, steering rack etc, build up Low compression ABF (2l 16v engine), fit with GT28RS, charge cooler, bigger brakes, rebuilt gearbox with LSD, new glass, lights, etc, keep looking stock on outside, refurb stock interior. Then use as weekend toy.
  24. Only problem with putting it in the door is, that the door is damp inside, and with 2 sets of wires running from body to door (feed from stereo to crossover and crossover to tweeter) there's twice as many chances of the cables being fatigued and breaking.
