Now there's a coincidence....I've just sold an inlet pipe to a guy in the Chanel Islands who alleges that he was ripped off by PEANUT on the purchase of an air-box....small world isn't it ? Maybe we should have a feed-back system in place like E-Bay ?
-
The problem appears to stem from the angle of the inlet port on my VSR, it is 60 degrees out of parallel to the block, compared with the 30 degrees of the original one, so the rigid plastic bend is too big, I can just jam a cone filter on the airflow, and it's pressed hard against the cam-cover.I need a longer pipe with a shallower bend. We managed to sort out the breather pipes OK. The flexible rubber pipe off my V8 MGB ( which came off a Range Rover ) does not fit, too short, wrong diameter, and no take-offs for ISV and canister.

Help.....the manifold does not fit!! Well, not strictly true...we got it to fit OK but the pipe connecting the throttle body to the airflow meter, ( part No 3A0 129 627 A) is the wrong one. The original manifold (late model Golf) has an angle of about 30degrees off parallel to the block, the VSR has an angle of 60 degrees, and needs a slightly longer pipe with a shallower bend....I've managed to cobble it together and used a PiperCross cone filter off the MG, but I'm guessing aht I need the pipe from a pre 1994 Corrado for it to fit the air box. Can anybody confirm this, perhaps give me a part number, or suggest where I could get one ?

I'ts due to be fitted on Wednesday...I bought it from a guy with a VR6 Golf in the US,.... all the bits appear to be there....but no reservoir or chip, the guy evidently ran his car without them. My engine is a TSR Le Mans 3 litre with gas flowed big valve head, 6 branch exhaust and PiperCross filter. it's a bit short on bottom end torque, (which is why I bought the VSR), but pulls like a train above 3500 rpm . I'll do some pics of the parts before it's fitted.

My VSR does not have a vac reservoir, I thought only the Schrick had the green tank ?

Some of us older chaps have changed gear this way since forever ( most of my earlier cars had very poor synchromesh and I did not have much choice).

I think you are talking about the non-turbo model, I have a pal with one, I'ts nowhere near as nippy as the VR6, a rather tasteless velour interior, lots of toys, lumbering handling, but it's well made, and not bad looking if you don't mind cars styled for the US rather than european market. It's a pleaseant long distance cruiser, and reasonably economical in that mode, but thirsty around town.

Nick, Is this set-up much harder than standard.?..I've had my Corrado for abut 6 months...I find the standard ride very comfortable, perhaps a bit 'crashy' on really bad roads, I wouldn't want to go much firmer.
-
TSR put a set in mine when they built my engine, they also gas flowed the head, I don't know how much larger they are though.

Sorry, I'm not following this :- 'a 2 point bar is ok but almost a waste'. I understood that the purpose of the bar was to hold the suspension turrets upright, I don't see how they would have any fore/aft movement.

I would recommend a good cleanout, my Golf Gti used to suffer from it....(fast idle regularly), and my VR6 had the opposite symptoms (stall when warm) until this weekend......it took 3 good flushes with carb. cleaner ( plus a flush of the silencer box) and a squirt of machine oil,to cure it...now it's running like a dream.....worth a try rather than spending loads !
-
I've got nothing but praise for TSR....they did an excellent job on my VR6 engine.....I had the full works done, and it runs like a dream, and they were most insistant that I contacted them if anything at all went wrong, or if I was unhappy with anything. I'm too am not sure about the RAF blue paint job on the engine, but I suppose it identifies it as one of theirs. I would be quite happy to recommend them to anyone.
-
I've got them on my V8 MGB...it's got rather more power than the VR6, I can spin the wheels in the wet.....but the grip is excellent, nice soft ride, and not too noisy , and no serious signs of wear in over 8000 miles.......I hadn't realised that they were available in VR6 size.

Angel Eyes come with a small coil spring in the adjuster hole, you need to remove it, and fit the adjusters (white plastic knobs) off your old lights, one of mine broke (old age) new one was just under £10 from the dealers (part no is v535 941 297 (adapter)

I had a large valve gas flowed head from TSR fitted recently, several other mods done at the same time, and I'm still running in, I've noticed an improvement in top end (above 4000) but suspect some loss of torque at lower revs......the power band has clearly moved up , so I'm fitting a VSR manifold to compensate.

TVR.....I live just around the corner from the factory.....and have met the chap with the best job in Blackpool....test drivin' 'em.

In-car video for trackdays etc- any advice?
mgbv8mike replied to Ice White Socks's topic in General Car Chat
I've done track days with my V8 MGB...stuffing a lapel mike wrapped in foam in the over-rider just above the exhaust makes an absolutely fabulous sound-track. Re camera mounting, I bolted a box section between the headrests, and fixed the camera onto this.......rev counter just visible in bottom corner of picture. -
Thanks Andy, I saw that some time ago when I first got interested in the project...it seemed to favour the VW manifold on balance...which I admit is the one which I really fancy.
-
I'm seriously tempted ....but which one ?. I find the VR6 engine seriously short of mid range torque compared with the V8 Rover in my MGB...yes....I know... it's a hooligan after 3500rpm....but I must have torque...torque...torque. Has there been a comparative test between the Schrick and VWR VSR....has anyone tried them both in the same car....I'm not looking for opinion (there is always loads of that here)....but hard facts. Can anybody help me ?
-
I had mine bored to 2950cc by TSR...i'ts a fairly expensive process.

I have an MGB with Rover V8 brakes (long story...don't ask) The MG pedal travel increased substantially when I did this mod......it's very similar to my VR6, and frightens people when they first drive it....but like the Corrado it stops excellently....modern cars have far too sensitive pedals IMO, I nearly put a passenger through the screen in a Mk4 Golfy the first time I drove one in anger ( and the power steering was far to much.....though I wish the MGB had it sometimes.....no fun parking with 195 tyres and no assistance)
-
I'm just about to do an oil change, and find that I've got a 'spare' wire in the engine bay .....yellow/black with a female spade....seems to run from the starter motor solenoid area (VR6) to somewhere near the twin fans.....any ideas ?
-
Would that be with or without a passenger ?

Surprisingly, nobody has mentioned the most valid reason, .....in order to shift a chunk of weight from in front of the front wheels (bad place) to the back of the car inside the wheelbase (good place). The Corrado's an amazingly good handling car considering it's appalling nose heaviness.
