  1. i know what you mean, i may even just do the clutch and put engine back and see how long it lasts while i save up. Am sure just doing the clutch and taking engine out i will spend a fortune on bits, new mounts etc
  2. must admit at the moment i'm liking the idea of a Vege engine and just swapping things over. Would give me a good chance to clean up the bay with engine out, and check out the steering rack etc.
  3. a proper search is showing them about the £2k price instead. this may be a very interesting option.
  4. thats thousands of pounds though isn't it? £3800 or £3600 am sure are the figures that cropped up while searching around the site

  6. Been stood in my garage today wondering what to do still. Am thinking now, R32 or an engine swap is out of question, unless i found a really good 12v VR6 (rebuilt or low milage) or a VRT ready to drop in. But i don't see that happening. So really i'm left with taking out the existing engine, doing chains & clutch and putting it back in car. Or take it out and rebuild the whole engine at same time or maybe just the head. I don't really know what condition its in or what work will need doing (knowing me it'll end up being everything) Sell the car as is, with all the mods and slipping clutch, high miles and not get much money for it. Splitting it would be the most money in my pocket, just adding up 15 items off car i was over £2k, wheels, suspension, interior, all the nearly new engine items, lights, brakes, wipers etc But i know i would regret it if i split it up. If i try fixing this myself i will buy an engine crane and an engine stand. But what other major/special tools might i need and what is worth doing while rebuilding it? Flowed head? better pistons? am i right in thinking people buy a 2.8 head and get that bored out etc?

  8. is the 2.8 the 24v one i assume? is that easier to convert to than the r32 lump?
  9. The clutch has started slipping now. Its a VR6 so people will say do the chains too while your there. Also its just approaching 180,000miles and the engine isn't perfect, still drives and accelerates fine, but can be a be noisy on startup somedays. So i can see me needing the head rebuilt too. My mechanic skills began when i got the corrado, i'm no expert but willing to give things a try. But what do i do? Just rebuild whats there? or would it be cheaper/quicker to source another engine? Or maybe even an R32 upgrade? Really stuck now as to what i do, or if i carry on at all........i think all the value in my cars is in the bits and pieces on it, not the actual car

  11. am think i should really get the chains done at the same time, car is nearly on 180,000 and they have never been done i can see this mounting up into another big wedge of money
  12. been searching around as i remember mic_vr thread. On my drive home just now i have the same feature :lol: my clutch is slipping :( did you get round to doing yours mic? i might try having a go at mine myself :|
  13. i just don't like it, but that me. If it was real carbon and on a 500bhp jap motor i wouldn't mind it being there...... but the corrado is too classy for a painted or vinyl black bonnet

  16. nice job on the wheels... what colour/type paint is that? i want to spray a few things that sort of colour
  17. thats boths types of mount and plate ^^ (shiny one is the early plate, rusty one above it is the late plate, the late mount is rubber thing with a separate bearing)
  18. apparantly people use them with the late style top mounts (which you have), they are quite a bit different looking to the late plates. i have photos somewhere
  19. the smaller late pate only just sits on the springs, will a slight knock it will just fall through the spring
  20. well i wouldn't of driven it any further i have it booked in the garage for monday already, so will cancel that with an embarrasing phonecall. probably did about 15miles after picking it up, and felt something was wrong
  21. omfg, just checked the wheel nuts like suggested and they were all loose :eek: that'll be my fault again. am having a few silly mistakes like this, like drawing a diagram to remember how the ht leads go, and realising after much annoyance i'd drawn the diagram wrong to start with
  22. i didn't take pics of it, i would like to forget i did it. :sleeping: UPDATE: Just got car back from having exhaust fitted and noticed a knocking feeling now, when driving, seems worse the faster you get, gets better when turning one way and goes away under braking, but with the odd quite loud knock/clonk/dunk etc thinking/hoping its a wheel bearing, but you can feel it in your feet when driving, i.e: the floor around pedals
