Its hard to say, they quote everything individually so you never get the same price twice. Then theres the prep work. To give you an example, my wishbones cost £60+vat to chrome, £150 if i hadn't done the prep work myself. Its also better to start with brand new parts. I've put about 20hrs into a prepping a secondhand subframe (still not finished), probably only take 5hrs with a new one.

Don't know. Now i've done PVW its no big deal anymore, same with shows too. The car won 17 awards last year so there really nothing more to achieve in that respect either. My aim now is to just do it for myself, in my own time rather than rushing stuff. If your polishing a box, i'd say chrome it, it will save you masses of time cleaning it. Mine just been sat in the spare room and needs buffing already. Never been near a road!! I've heard that chroming is about half the cost in the US compared to the UK. You've gotta gold plate the centres of the BBS, thats the big thing for this year. TMT McCoy, thanks man. You've been there and done that so you'll know that feeling of collecting a fresh pile of chroming

I'm sticking with the old 12V, for all its faults its a much better looking engine. Specially with a VWMS VSR

Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!

How do you plan mount the wiper mechanism? I've got 3 options. 1 is to make a small neat bracket for the rear mount on the normal RHD corrado wiper mech. 2 is to go mk2 golf single wiper which tucks up underneath the screen. 3 is to get a LHD VR6 mech and mod it to fit the RHD position (this also tucks up underneath the screen). I would have to reverse the direction of the motor to the opposite way. At this time I might just stick with option 1 as time and money is against me but ideally option 3 would be my first choice. I've looked at the LHD option, thats the way i'm going. Possibly with a single wiper so save too much hassle. You made loads of progress so far. BTW, are you taking the dash out to weld up the holes in the bulkhead? Regarding progress - thanks but it looks better in the photo than it actually is. Lots of under coat and sanding is needed, all by hand as well cause the electric sander is too big! My aim is to have the drivers chassis leg done by this evening.. (just taking a quick break) .. If I get the scuttle area started that would be good also. I want this finished by the end of the month, so only 2 more weekends left! cheers B[/quote:4f95c] That very fast, i'm leaving mine to Jason! He's sent me pics of a mk1 he's currently doing and its the smoothest bay you'll ever see. Way beyond the cars premier have produced so far. Even inside the front and rear wheel arches are smoothed!!! -

No, not AWD. Won't be driving the car that hard to be honest. Reliablity and quality of install are the goals i'm aiming for.

i've been out in a 964 turbo, great as the corrado is.....its no porsche. No matter how much money you throw at it.

cheers Kev, thats what i thought. If anyone has a dizzy one please let me know. I'll buy it or swap my polished (i'll chrome it if ya like) non dizzy + cash!!

I've got a set of engine cover plates same as the ones in the pic's however i've got an early non-coilpack VR. Are they the same? Or should the top plate have a hole for the distributor in it?

well if you ever finish yours and get the itch to do some more I will start sending bits down :D If you polish em' no problem. Interesting you say "if you ever finish"....

Not sure i'll get to any shows this year. Never know, but this stage of my car's build is the most expensive even though is not going to be a great deal better. Don't drive it that much anymore as the headgasket is leaking slightly so, don't want it to blow before I can get the car over to dubsport for the rebuild. Got to get the new gearbox built up first which is going to cost alot with the chrome and ATB. Basically money is the problem not enthusiasm.

Is PG block the strongest block that vw has ever made ?
A20 LEE replied to VWci's topic in Engine Bay
Wasn't the 16V block used in F3 or F3000? -
Thats very interesting, i'll have to speak to Matt Heap about getting me some. Yeah, i know i'll get loads of wheel spin. Driven a 3.0TDI Touareg with 375lbft and that can smoke all four wheels off the line.

Can't help myself, this is the bit of a project i love. Stripping stuff down and rebuilding it better. Shame alot of these bits won't be seen but i like doing it. The great thing about the forum is you can document this stuff which you could never explain at a show, and people learn what's involved so they can do it themselves.

Its very thin, guess it would add 10g to the gearbox end plate in the pics. The trackrod's do it for me from some reason. Just thinking about powdercoating all the chroming clear. It will dull it down a little but should save me from having to have it all redone later. Wish i had a garage!!

You get me a G60 casing stripped and polished and i'll get it chromed for you.
-
Picked up my chroming today. Really chuffed with it, makes all the hardwork and prep seem worth while when you see it all plated up on the counter. Gearbox and subframe are going next friday! :D Can't wait to see the complete enginebay.

sooo want one of those

I've got a pair of complete spare driveshafts i'm going to rebuild with new CV joints. But before I start will they be able to cope with about 380lbft? Don't want to waste time and money building them up if they will be trashed first time i give it some right foot. Custom made shafts will cost about £600 which i don't fancy paying. Any other options? TIA

Anyone know where I can get a BMC CDA for Golf VR6
A20 LEE replied to matth76's topic in Suppliers Forum
I've got a Turn2 kit on my car. Its just a pipe with a K&N on the end. If i get time in the near future i'll take it off and get powerflow to copy the pipe. No idea how much it will cost but must be kit than the kits. -
a quick cheat is to damp down the whole bay and spray the whole enginebay with autoglym rubber and vinyl care.
