  1. Looks awesome, Lee. I bet you've worn your fingers down to nubbins...[/quote:bf4df] true, not had finger prints since i started the gearbox before christmas:lol: Got everything to the chromers today, they remembered me so got a good deal. They said that the finish on the parts i'd polished wasn't good enough. Gutted, but he said he'd give them the a quick buff on one of their wheels and give them a good coat for me. Love getting bits to the chromer's feels like i'm finally making some progress. CoxyLaaaaaaaad!, you could be right but lets face it, if your paying £10-£15 to get in to a show you want to see some properly prepared cars. UK cars aren't a patch on the US show cars, ever watch Hot Rod Build Off with Jimmy Shine. Thats just scary detailing for example making sure the text on the tyres is line up with the spoke on each wheel. I'm happy if my local tyre fitters don't mark the rims!!
  2. got the first of many piles of bits ready for the chromers. God knows what they'll say when i turn up with a gearbox and subframe in a few weeks.
  3. Here's a pic of the standard of prep required to chrome stuff. All these parts are steel took bl**dy ages. They were paint stripped, sanded with 240/600/800 then buffed with a dremel. Still working on the subframe so pics to follow, hopefully not to long.... Gearbox, can't afford it yet. Maybe next month.
  4. Pfff... well IMO it isn't worth it at all, it would barely be worh it for £1k. Yeah got them well under a 1k so ill post up when ive sorted the deal! The 2K price is probably for the full monty kit with separate alloy bells.
  5. theres a few bits. Give time tho. Think its actually paint they use on plastic. Think only ABS can be properly chromed. I'm not sure, but I have a mate who makes paintball guns and he said he could chrome any plastic bits I have.. so worth a thought! :) I'll say. Personally i'd be tempted to try it on a spare dash centre piece. On a slightly different topic. Stripped and polished the new track rods and have a question. Does the top section which looks like a ball joint actually pivot in operation? Just wondering whether to mask it before chrome plating. Anyone?
  6. Thanks Coxy. Cracked it. I pushed them out using a G-Clamp.

  8. Normal price is about £35/£40 per wheel up to £75 for chrome effect. cheers Mike[/quote:0277c] got a pic of your chrome effect?
  9. thats a relief, who's marty? marty_vr6  Looking good as ever Lee, keep it up. Still can't wait to see this :)[/quote:2088c] cheers, checked out the gallery. Very nice car. I'll post up the parts as there done. The finished article, who knows
  10. more bits stripped, don't have access to a press so any ideas on the best way to remove the wishbone bushes welcomed. Next job is to rub them all down with 800 grit and buff them with the dremel. Then off to the chromers. Gearbox hasn't gone yet as money is still too tight. Hopefully some of these bits will get dipped in the next month. Continuing my current free mods theme, gonna start tacking the enginebay wiring. That should keep me busy. Cheers Jim, checked his profile and now know who Marty is.
  11. Very nice car, spent alot of time looking at it, at E38. Looked really good and was one of the those cars which shouts come look at me across the show ground. Top effort, look forward to seeing it get better and better.
  12. thats not bad MJM quote $850. Do you have to pay VAT when they arrive?
