proper close!! i had a slightly worse experience recently when i started renting a garage to store the C in while i was out of the country... never gave a thought to the fact that when you drive in it's fine, but on the way out it'd be "splittin' time"... wonder if i could get away with advertising the gully off the kerb as a local landfill?? :scratch:

i am currently running Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position's on the VR6, but thanks to Mr MOT there's an advisory on 3 out of 4... now economy headed me thinks "it's only an advisory, so don't worry yet", but practical me decided that since i'd just done the 1000 mile return trip to Le Mans i'd check how bad they were... [insert suitable 'dumbass' comments here :roll: ] anyways, the offside front is as bald as William Shatner under that wig on the inside track - meaning the tracking is obviously ballsed too... :oops: since i'll be replacing all 4 tyres, i'd appreciate some forum-member opinions on good/bad rubber experience [no deviant comments required! :lol: ] to help me decide whether to re-shoe with the same Potenza's or something else. i thank you.

nope, i've been scanning the 'Trader and such-like (while still on honeymoon in New Zealand) for one so that I can selfishly keep the VR tip-top... trouble is that i don't see the new wife being too keen on me adding a 6th car to the collection. especially since she doesn't drive!

as with many of us, i was indoctrinated into the VW fraternity at a young age... Dad presented me with a ripe-for-restoration '66 Beetle the day after my provisional licence arrived. the spring of 1990 Dad took me and my GTi & Jetta owning cousin to Wolfsburg for a 'boys weekend'... where in a car park beside the factory i had an epiphany on seeing my first ever C. a trip to the local dealer had me using up a whole roll of 35mm film in my camera on the 2 Rado's in the showroom. i remember telling Dad i wanted one... he just laughed a told me to start saving :wink: the Bug was fully restored but got t-boned in Fratton by a kid who had 'borrowed' his Dad's Fiesta-van while he was down the pub... in typical student fashion i couldn't afford a sandwich, but thanks to Mr Barclaycard i landed a Mk1 GTi... which a taxi a 'parked' in barely a month after the Bug was terminated. got it fixed up thanks to insurance... the GTi eventually dissolved into shrapnel at a major junction in Cardiff, where i was by then at Uni and was hastily replaced with a cheap Audi 80. by this time my mates (all of whom seemed to drive Alfa's) were tearing strips off me for my 'grandad style motor'. one particularly helpful mate dumped a loan of old car magazines at my folks place with the words "if you're gonna stick with your damned nazi-wagons, at least get an interesting one... what about a Corrado?". an hour later i swore the next car i bought would be proper. post-uni i started saving for a C before getting bored of my job and quitting and heading off travelling. by the time i got back the Audi was completely drilled as a mate had been commuting Southampton to Redhill in it every day... and as soon as i was back in a job i went to see the Bank about a nice little car loan. the Bank were not that sympathetic to my cause and turned me down, so i figured i'd have to wait... until in a surprising turn of events, the Audi's head gasket blew! here's an excuse i thought! :lol: tail-between-legs i asked my parents for a loan, to "invest in a reliable car" now that i had a respectable job which involved frequent travelling... I had already been scoping out Rado's again and was convinced that a VR was the only way forward... at which point [and i'm still not sure how], i was talked into buying an Ibiza Cupra. speed forward 2.5 years and during a drunken chat with my mate who had loaned me all the magazines years before i started up about VR's again. his comment that i was full of sh*t and would never actually get one finally spurred me into action and assisted by an unexpected bonus from work i went looking. after 4mths looking and failing i got a call from the then owners of Autotechnik who i knew quite well, telling me they had just serviced a nice N-reg black VR6 which the owner was going to sell. with apprehension, i was still there in 10mins and after chatting with the owner [previous Forum member Kieran] expressed serious interest. about 3 weeks later i drove it off his drive and straight down the M27 to my mates place... nearly a year later i still smile every time i slip in behind the wheel. it only took 15 years, but finally it was 'job done'.

my parents know a couple who run a small hotel in Belgium, the owner used to live in the UK but moved over there and is a bike instructor around the 'Ring (including the Nordschleife). don't know if you have accommodation sorted, but Neil and Anne are both motorsport nuts if you need somewhere. check out http://www.aeadventures.com if you're interested.

Nope, mine's a black VR... I've seen the dark blue valver a few times - always with the brunette lass driving like you said... either she thinks i'm a cracking on to her, or doesn't connect that i'm waving at her being a fellow C driver???

right, i'm a bit out of touch with time, so... v.low and v.dirty dark blue C last Saturday (4th), backfired as it passed me doing 60+ and accelerating... in a 40 limit :roll: purple one rolling into the VIDA leisure centre, millbrook on Thurs night. standard looking dark blue C in West Totton, Nugget Yellow going in the opposite direction on Totton bypass just before 5pm and a tornado red J reg, de-badged 4-slat grille in Argos/JJB car-park Southampton City Centre... all today!

cool, thanks guys! i've run older cars (Mk1 GTi for example) so used to the wear... still must be in my 'Rado honeymoon period though as these little glitches seem so irrelevant when it means you can fire up a VR every morning 8)

Since the New Year my C has finally begun to advertise it's flaws... first the ABS light decided that it would only go out at 2 of every 3 starts. as of last weekend that's become 1 of every 3.. today the high-speed wipe has failed me in crappy traffic spray in the outside lane of the M3... and as of an hour ago the blower on the heater only works on the highest setting. oil, grease, bearings and mucky mechanicals i can understand.... but when it comes to electrics i'm as useful as a solar powered torch. does this sound symptomatic of something major to anyone - or just co-incidence?

..ha, spotted bu Dub_nut_g60! That'll be me then... looking a touch grubby after belting down the M27 in the muck yesterday! I take it that it was you I saw parked outside the shops in White Hart Lane when I left about 5pm then?? Also caught sight of a black C with Porsche brakes/hubs, a Storm Grey on Speedlines and a dark green Storm all at Autotechnik yesterday morning... it felt like an un-manned club meeting!

Yesterday: white H-reg valver on chunky slab sided alloys, Homebase/Currys car park at Hedge End - just off M27... c'mon SOMEONE... I've been spotted, I just need to spot another Forum member to validate my existence!! :roll:

dark green valver, heading into Southampton along Millbrook Rd at lunchtime - got a bit embarassed and missed waving as yours was clean...

...and another: M***JPR, tornado red VR6 at Hill Lane/Commerical Road traffic lights about 8.15 this morning. (Yes, Southampton again) :)

welcome... i would say you need to get your priorities straight though; Corrado first, wedding second just like I did! Especially since what you get second will cost you FAR more! :D
