  1. if this is an issue for all the other cars that Vince mentioned then its an issue for all of the VR6 Owners club, half of Edition 38 and any number of other regional clubs. If there was a common letter produced for each and every member of all the clubs to send to VW then hopefully they might start paying attention and stop being such er, c***s..
  2. The one I'm considering is 170k and hasn't had any of the engine work mentioned above done. But generally feels a good car, same owner for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrs, etc. I'd have bought it by now if it weren't for a left-field issue making me reconsider a second car. are you prepared to spend £2-3k on it in the next 2 years if necessary? if not then its either too expensive now or its not worth it..
  3. hmmm, this is what comes up as a fault on vag-com on my and, from what i've read, quite a few other peoples cars. its been intermittent so i've not worried about it much but if its the cause of my ABS light coming on occasionally too then I'll be quite annoyed if that cant be fixed..

  5. 7k miles is £1400 of superunleaded a year. say £500 as an average for insurance. £200 for tax. £100 for MOT. All round numbers with incidental costs. That leaves £1800 from £4k, less £200 for half a set of tyres = £1600. Less £100 for a basic oil service = £1500 from your £4k. There are very few jobs or combinations of jobs that cost £1500 all in that happen more than once every 5-7 years. So conceivably you might spend £3k above the initial £2500 one year, but then you might not spend anything above it the next year, or the year after. If you really look after your car but leave it standard, and based on the above, I would guess about £3-3.5k per year for 7k annual miles.
  6. Good stuff, I'm sure with your left over pennies then you'll be able to get it looking great very soon! If the exhaust is not actually worn out then i'd leave that until the end of your jobs as its an expensive thing that doesn't make much difference unless the old one falls off! And yes, given that you're not doing many miles then i'd use proper petrol in it but only fill it up half a tank at a time as it can lose its goodness if left for a few weeks. Have fun!
  7. its a touch high for those miles but the wheels are expensive and a good respray is too, so on balance it seems pretty fair and cheap if the engine has had work too.
  8. fair do's - it could well be just autometrix that hike the price - will try to find some days there organised by others i'm sure I'll still be there! and will look forward to seeing how much quicker you go round with experience of it.. good, nearer the time we'll get everyone organised and i'm going to go to brands tomorrow even though i've just found out one of the alloys i bought recently has a crack in it! isn't losing air so i'll worry about it after i've killed the tyres :D
  9. was thinking more about the Revo remaps (not sure that Vince is a Revo agent?) - i know the diesels can get crazy amounts of torque to make them quite amusing :)
  10. i think if steve knew it was £75 he might not have been quite so single-option in his advice! its a very straight-forward item so perhaps for the saving 2nd hand might be worth it after all.. they dont seem a commonly in-demand bit so I'm sure you'll find one from someone who's breaking a car.
  11. i hope you're at least going to remap the hell out of the diesel if thats what you're sticking with now! :)
  12. hmm, i'd be taking DG's assessment down to them next time you were close by and seeing what they had to say for themselves...
  13. if its a different day to the vw/audi days then let us know when you're planning!
  14. I have one of those, the previous owner was given it as a present :)
  15. well maybe the woodbridge one might work? if not then another more central one later on, am open to suggestions!
  16. August is not "Spring 2010"!!! I'm going to start stealing bits out of their workshop if they dont get fitted to your car soon :D
  17. sadly it probably is.. when i crunched the front of mine and was driving around with gaffer-taped broken headlights  the police that pulled me over were very concerned that in case i mowed down a pedestrian, their fatal internal injuries would be a lot worse as a result of me not having smooth headlight glass to ram them with and that they might sustain nasty cuts before still dying anyway.. :hitler: :ignore:
  18. Great! The only reservation I have over Combe is that its quite expensive - last year it was £110 for three quite stingy sessions (or £40 each compared with £25 at other places) whereas if you can do full days for not much more, or half days for much less at other less well known venues then maybe we can persuade a few more along? hmmm, apparently thruxton doesn't appear to have any open track days due to evil noise restrictions - only seems to be supercar driving experiences :(
  19. and i could have the obd2 stuff :norty:
  20. in fact i think its easily worth 3k reading it again and i'd quite like it myself! i'm going to get in touch with the guy i mentioned - there might be a deal to be done :)
  21. if i can afford the ring later in the year then i'd love to go back but at the moment i'm just limited to the odd bit of weekend/half-weekday fun. let me know when you plan any shakedown days :)
