Which way do you swing? G60 or VR6
Mike Edwards replied to C. Will Corrado G60 2's topic in Engine Bay
I may be wrong, but I think the supercharger kit for a VR6 is more like £3K? A standard VR6 is a more relaxed drive than a standard G60 and sounds better. That said, unless you're getting too old for the G60, stick with it... -
Oh - and Darren? I am a very happy customer - check the figures on the signature :D
-
Stick with new standard items at that price unless you're really keen to lower it. You should also fit new top mounts and bumpstops while you're at it.
-
1. Who said - in front of witnesses: "That's the best G60 Ive ever seen"? 2. Who's car was he talking about? :D (not mine btw...)
-
Yup - you can use the early motor to operate a later roof. Doesn't work the other way round though - the later roofs have an indentation in the track to accommodate the larger late motor.

Late model (therefore 9a) exhaust valves appear to be 0.25mm shorter...

Very simple. You must use the brake fluid hoses for the 288mm brakes as well.

Okay, to clarify (a bit long, but bear with me): The most common breakages on the corrado roof are: - the failure of the locking mechanism on the slide function (generally on the passenger side) leading to a scratched/jammed roof; - the casting on the end of the cable snapping (also on the passenger side) so the roof will tilt but not close or slide; - the spring-loaded lugs that pull the lining up when the roof tilts can also break, but this seems to be related to the roof getting badly out of alignment as a result of the failure of the locking mechanism of the slide function. The failure of the locking mechanism seems to be due to wear in the mounting for the locking lever where it slides in the track. This is listed in ETKA as the "Water Guide Plate" - 1h0 898 019. The breakage of the casting on the cable seems to be due to mis-alignment of the locking mechanism when the slide function is used - this appears to be related to wear in the Water Guide Plate as well (listen for a popping sound as the roof slides back). The Water Guide Plate is the same on both the Corrado and Passat roofs, which is what I mean when I say that the bits that break are the same. For some reason, the design of the cable on the moonroof makes it less susceptable to breakage, while the tracks on the moonroof are spaced further from the roof meaning that wear in the locking mechanism has to be severe before the glass panel starts to scrape. When it does finally come into contact with the roof it jams completely and leads to some part of the side plate (described as a guide - 1h0 898 151- in ETKA) or it's mounting at the front snapping. Not withstanding the above, I have 2 broken moonroofs in my garage at the moment - one with a broken cable (snapped casting on the end so it can only pull the roof forward into the tilt position) and one with a broken front mounting for the guide. Both of these roofs have a very badly worn Water Guide Plate. HTH. :D

The bits that cause the cable to break on the Corrado roof are same on the Passat roof... :(
-
The Corrado shares the metal roof panel with the up to 1996 Passat, so should be interchangeable. I've just been comparing the steel and glass panels in the garage and they appear to have the same shape. Something else is wrong.

New tyres should always go on the back on a FWD car - particularly one with as much go as a C.

Kev - it's all right. We're sure it makes more than that after all the money you've spent...

Electrical problem- Big one at that Help needed urgently
Mike Edwards replied to samwell's topic in Archive
Well first, why did you drive it back from the garage if you knew it had no belts? What do you mean by no fan belt - the fan is electric? -
Kev, What you described is true for the later motor. The ealy motor doesn't have either the allen key crank handle, nor the little crank cover. Otherwise, good call. Oh and check the fuse... :D
-
In hot weather you'll still stick to the leather - unless you have aircon...
-
No. The fuel pressure regulator will scupper that idea.
-
Well, I think the main problem is that your typing is atrocious...

Retail for complete early type lights is £68.68. Being a good customer can get this discounted down to less than £60. The only differences between the early and late lights are the lens and surrounding trim - available seperately.

A fairly expensive collection of bits! 1h0 898 015a and 16a if you want to change both cables. If your roof will close from full tilt on the switch you don't need either of them though. 1H0 898 019 and 020 might both need changing, but 019 (passengerside) is more likely.
-
I have 2 in my garage at the moment. The casting on the end of the cable differs and there area couple of other differences relating to the lining, but otherwise the bits that break on the Corrado roof are the same as those on the Passat roof. The sunshade on both the Passat roofs I have is manually operated - you pull it back and forward by hand independent of the roof panel. hth

Reinforced steel panel bends before 2mm thick aluminium track - I think not. More likely that the panel mountings have slipped on the mechanism - an easy fix involving the use of the appropriate spline-drive tool. Even if the tracks are bent, they're easy to straighten. Worn tracks on the other hand cannot be fixed. Will the roof tilt and close using the switch, or will it only tilt? There are only 2 bits that wear-out/break (due to lack of regular lubrication btw). Replacing these will fix pretty much any Corrado roof regardless. Replacement with one from another car - or using a Passat roof - is a mixed blessing as they both use exactly the same parts...

You will - of course - never get your money back on any of these mods. So think carefully about how badly you need the extra performance. Given the cost, it might also be a good idea to have a serious look at why this seems like a good idea...

The complete headlight can be bought from VW for less then £70 a side (inc VAT)

What's wrong with your sunroof?

Why do you think you need to remove the radiator to look at the pump? Its on the driver's side of the engine. If there's a leak in the cooling system it will sit at the temperatures you mention. If there is no leak it will get much hotter without mishap (provided everything is in good condition...)
