  1. I doubt it's standard if it's making that sort of power. A standard car ought to be somewhere between 135 and 140 bhp. I'd recommend Kent GF1602R cams, but I suspect that it may have non-standard items in there already (that or the rolling road was a bit optimistic).
  2. Phat, what you need is a standard second C in good nick for comparison purposes... :D
  3. "If he swaps them..." Grammatically at least, he's done both sides then - so what is the "othe rside" you mention??? :-P
  4. Taking the brain out will mean you car is immobilised unless you remake all the connections that were cut when it was installed.
  5. Is it a grey or black interior?
  6. The cheap way to check whether the MAS is dodgy is to disconnect it at tickover - there should be a change in engine rpm. If there isn't, try driving it. If it feels the same as before, the MAS is shot. If it feels horrible to drive, the problem is somewhere else.
  7. Kev, With the roof at full-tilt press down on the pivot of the rocker arm. If there's any up and down movement, it's the mounting that has worn/bent/broken. When either of the above happens the little wheels on the rockers take a pounding. Replace the mounting and rocker complete (it's called the "Water Guide Plate" 1H0 898 019 or 020 depending on which side) and your roof will work again. This part of the mechanism is identical to that found on the moonroof... As a general note, the common feature of my extensive selection of broken roof mechanisms is that they don't seem to have been lubricated since they left the factory. Get a can of White Grease (with PTFE) from Halfords and give the tracks that the slider mechanism and drive cables run in a good squirt.
  8. Well, if someone has a broken roof, I can tell them exactly what's gone wrong and how to fix it, but I'm a lazy toad so haven't bothered with a write up. Plus, the one done by Markos on the Yahoo e-group is about as comprehensive as it gets.
  9. Ah? So you don't think a broken sunroof is a common occurence on Corrados? :?
  10. 2 hours to remove, dis-assemble, replace the broken parts, reassemble and refit a Corrado Sunroof... :D
  11. Wow - someone else who has had the same proiblem as me! The little wire in question melted the insulation off all the others in the lead to the light switch in my case though. The resulting short to earth meant that when you turned the car over (cuts power to the lighting circuit) it would fire then immediatley cut out as power was respored to the lighting circuit which was shorted to earth by the melted wires. Replace the lead (£75 3 years ago - might be cheaper now) and the fuel and relief relays (they will have got a bit warm) and the problem should be sorted.
  12. On a previous car I found the brakes seemed a bit wooden after some "spirited" driving on some twisty local roads. Then I noticed that the disks were an interesting blue colour. The surface of the pads looked like glass when I replaced them so I dread to think how hot the brakes actually got....
  13. Yes, I found that too. 60+ through to - oohh - quite a lot was really very good. Made me realise the differences in ride quality that various makes of tyre had though (Fulda - great turn in but HARD, Pirelli - softer and much more forgiving if it all goes wrong)
  14. Get some H&R coilovers on there - keeps the car flat in corners and improves turn-in by an amazing amount. The springs are around twice the rate of the standard items though, so can be a bit firm over low-speed potholes (but still nicer than Eibachs...).
  15. Koni Top Ajustable all the way if you're fitting lowering springs. Otherwise, stick to gas shocks from GSF or go with standard items from VW.
  16. Do what I did - remove the b*st*rd... :?
  17. You might not belive it looking at that picture, but taking the dash off is actually easier...
  18. If the blower moteor is squealing, remove the passeger-side under-dash tray, disconnect the power lead to the fan motor then just rotate the whole fan to remove it from its bayonet-fitting into the ducting. It is then possible to lube the bottom bearing by removing the centre cap and squirting a lubricant on the bearing.
  19. What you really want is a set of refurbed OZ Polaris. £180 and they're yours if you collect them.
  20. All the late model cars have the same front shock, all VR6 models have a gas rear shock. The same springs are listed for all late model cars, but there are some VR6 specific ones. It should be fine...
  21. He needs to get a decent sized intercooler in there next rather than messing around changing one modified component for another. Jim, how much did the Rallye intercooler on yours cost?
  22. Mis-matched eh? Anything I can help you with...? :D
  23. Did you get the gearbox mount changed as well?
