  1. Leave the bolts at the lever-end of the linkage alone unless you're sure they've been knocked out of alignment.
  2. Seconded. A junior hacksaw will sort it...
  3. The slam-panel for a 4-cylinder differs from that on the VR6, but will accomodate a VR6-sized radiator. You need the driver's side retaining plate for use with the 675mm radiator. Part number is 535 121 267 A. HTH

    Strut Tops

One nut per side. If your existing spring top plates are 1H0 412 34 go ahead, otherwise go buy a set from VW - they're cheap. Your existing strut top plate will be fine - only reason to change ould be if it's a bit manky. HTH :D
  5. The offset - while important - doesn't mean a particular wheel will fit over the Brembo's. I have 7.5x17 et38 Fox alloys on mine and the calipers are running scared...
  6. You don't need to take the bolt off - just slacken off the nut on the opposite side of the lever to the cable end. The bolt fits in a slot on the end of the lever - just move it a little to the rear and retighten. If you completely lose your ability to change gear, reset it to where it was when you started (or in the middle of the slot - whichever is easier.

    COIL PACKS

£200+ for a VR6 from VAG. I tyhink ECP and GSF do them as well for under £150.
  8. "...and the reason it sank is because i didnt use a jack i just drove it up on 2 ramps..."
  9. I had no idea the prices were so reasonable. Makes me think about modifying it... :D
  10. Yep - you are missing the torsion spring from the gearshift. This will help kep the lever in the centre of the gste. Does the lever flop from side to side? There is a spring at the gearbox end, but...
  11. Also - more generally, if your C was made before Nov 1991, it will have the early-style cable shift arrangement on the gearbox end. Fitting the counterweight from the later version to an earlier car makes a HUUUUGE difference to the quality of the shift. Either find an early 1990s Passat in a breakers and take the counterweight and mounting off that, or buy it direct from VW. Worth every penny...
  12. Hmmm... Trilidon, if all the gears are notchy and reverse is a complete pig to get out of, it suggests the gearshift cables need adjusting. This assuming your clutch is fine and the engine and gearbox mounts are okay. To free-up reverse, look at the gearshift cables at the gearbox end. The cable you want to adjust is the one that attaches closer to the engine. Mark where it's currently positioned, slacken off the bolt and move the end of the cable SLIGHTLY to the rear of the car. Retighten the bolt and test. If 5th starts to get difficult to engage, you've gone too far.

    Strut Tops

Yes - just yesterday. I've also done it to the 16v a couple of years ago. You will need: The strut tops (also used on all Mk3 Golfs); The bearings for same; Spring top plates to suit; Nuts to replace the threaded bush used in the earlier type top mount. Which spring top-plate to use depends on the springs you have. You are most likely to need the ones to fit the larger diameter (measured at the top of the spring, where it tapers). The part number for this is: 1H0 412 341. Happy spannering! :D
  14. Given that this part is common to all Corrados and 1990 - 1993 Golfs/Passats I find that hard to believe...
  15. "...It is a neverending snow ball of think to buy and do!!!..." I think you're beginning to get the idea... :D
  16. Are you boasting, or selling??? :D
  17. Now, who wants a cheap 2nd hand Shrick VGI complete with vacuum system etc in good working order?
  18. The black VR6 - either standard or with everything still on it. Don't be put off by the mileage, it was motorway use mostly. The brakes and suspension bushes have all been replaced in the last 2 years. In its current form it managed 215bhp on AMD's rolling road last month. I think you'll find it's quick enough... :D Kev - if you still want the chipped ECU and gas-flowed throttlebody....
  19. I have one going spare that may be quick enough for you...
  20. Err...if the bumper skin is falling off, it's just that - a plastic moulding. If there's any metalwork on the back of it whatsoever, the bumper itself isn't bolted to the chassis. If the latter is the case, stop driving it immediately until it's been bolted back on.
  21. What wheels are on there at the moment then?
  22. The G60 seems to have standard shocks and Kamex springs. the springs are going to get changed in the next week or so though, so will be available...
  23. Just found out that some complete chimp had fitted tapered wheelbolts to the original fit BBS wheels on the G60. Hopefully they haven't cracked the wheels. Does anyone have any standard VW 12mm wheels bolts going spare?
  24. Jamex give a good ride - even in 60mm lower guise
