  1. Spooky... I post in the Engine Bay forum, and it comes out here... Right Mods: Your turn...
  2. C + R32 + Quaife 02a ATB. Recommendations for putting it together???
  3. 'Fairly' certain I put it in Technical:Engine Bay in an attempt to get people's opinion - rather than have someone sell me their expertise... Oh well, moving on: In addition to Karl and Dubunit, any suggestions anyone???
  4. Holy Forum Jump Batman.... Okay chaps - for future reference - can you please point me at the user guidance that would suggest this is where I should ask the question - rather than where I originally posted it???
  5. Lets say I have a C VR6, plus an R32 engine, plus a Quaife 02a ATB. Who do people recommend to bring these things together in a working package???
  6. Ah - the rarity value coupled with looks/handling. A few years ago I enquired at the DVLA how many Cs there were (taxed or SORNed). Of the 9000-odd sold in the UK between the launch and the mid nineties (some VR6s were registered in 1996), less than half remained. That was in 2002, when the number of cars being broken was very small. This is no-longer the case, as the Sales forum shows...
  7. Careful: The VR6 was £20k in the early '90's - and it is a Golf in drag... Plus, I've got an e-mail inviting me to pre-order from my local retailer. I'm tempted to speculate.
  8. Sounds like they're fine. If you fit early standard springs (with appropriate top plates) it won't sit quite so high.
  9. Good news: The only difference between the early and late spec sunroof mechanism is that the late models have an indent to provide clearance for the larger motor assembly. This is the same for Passat saloon roofs, but the moonroof has some differences in the bits that slide back and forth to accommodate the separate glass panel and sunscreen. HTH
  10. I have V1s on the VR6 with 16"wheels and Fulda tyres. I've had various other set ups on this car with varying results. I think the set up I liked the most were Mk2 Golf Koni t/a coilovers on a Corrado 16v running 17" wheels and Toyo Proxes.
  11. Check that the stub axle isn't bent 1st, as these just bolt on and are much easier to replace. They can also be shimmed. Also, check the respective ride heights side to side. If one spring platform is set differently to the other (or the springs are different lengths/weights) you wmight get the same effect.
  12. What the heck is an unhappy ECU and what bearing does Mr Grumpy ECU have on oil temp?? Oil temp has nothing to do with the ECU. The only MFA function that is controlled by the ECU is MPG. All other MFA functions operate independantly of the ECU. And I know this because my Motronic ECU is in the shed and everything in the MFA works as before, except MPG. My unhappy ecu was doing strange things with the ignition advance. The cooling system was more than up to the task, but the oil temperatures were a bit high (as were the heatsinks in the ecu, which were a variety of pretty colours when I opened it up and had a look... )
  13. Unhappy ecu produced an indicated oil temp on the motorway of 114. Changing the ecu dropped this back into the 'normal' range - hence a suggested cause. Similarly, with the coolant leak - the level was fine - but dropping. Finding and fixing the leak - and making no other changes - dropped the motorway coolant temp back to 'normal'. hence the suggestion that this might be a cause. Both these on a VR6 - the same as the original post. The 11 other cars I've owned in the last 21 years haven't exhibited either of these symptoms and respective causes. The VR6 is the slowest accelerating vehicle I currently own and regularly use... :D
  14. Perhaps if you re-read my post? The 1st line refers to coolant temp, the second to oil temp - both based on personal experience over 7 years of VR6 ownership. HTH.
  15. Your MFA reads oil temp (sender on the filter housing). The coolant temp is shown on the main instrument display and uses one of 2 senders on the thermostat housing. The other sender is used by the ECU and is what you see on VAGCOM. HTH
  16. What does the brake pedal feel like? The symptoms sound like an incorrectly adjusted brake bias valve.
  17. 70 it what a VR6 with an old coolant temp sensor will read - 90 is about right (110 may suggest a leak somewhere). 90+ is about right for oil temp. 110 suggests unhappy ecu...
  18. Steve, I have option 3 in my VR6 (an Ebay purchase) - very comfortable, and you don't need aircon in order to enjoy them. Leonard, if your sister reads this thread, do you have any preferences as to flowers or charitable donations??? :)
  19. Does anyone have the part number for the bit that clips on to the base of the gearknob that holds the gaiter in place? Getting bored with ordering what looks like the right bit, only to find it's meant to attach to the gaiter...
  20. Amazing how many C owners there are in/around Herefordshire ( given how few people actually live here...)
  21. If the outer is okay, I recommend just threading a new inner. Otherwise, I'll look to see where it goes tomorrow.
  22. For a straight swap, late mk3 items fit straight on and have an improve handbrake mechanism. Mk4s are (allegedly) a bit siezure prone
  23. There will be a gap even with new ones - particularly when on full lock. But after 90k, new ones are a good idea.
