Complete Suspension/Brake/Disc/Bush Overhall-What do i need
Mike Edwards replied to BeavisJem's topic in Drivetrain
They are a lot louder. But they last a long time. Which - depending on your point of view - can be either a good or a bad thing... -
Has anyone found one?
-
I'd still like the bolts - a good write-up btw!
-
Have bag of said items. Will sell (at C meets)

PROBLEM NOW SOLVED! Lowered it&brakes catching wheels!

Worst pics ever??? :) If the clip on the UJ is fouling the ARB, something is seriously amiss... -

In which case, something has moved that shouldn't. Start looking at the hub on each side to figure out why one is rubbing but the other isn't. -

It's catching on something else - the wheels and calipers will have the same relative positions no matter how much you lower the car. -
Well, pretty much what he said (esp. the clean hands part*). If you remove the edging strip around the sunroof 1st, you'll find that removing the sunvisors and centre roof-console will let you remove the headlining without having to bother with the rest. getting it all back in is more of an art tho. If your roof will open and close on tilt, but not close on slide, you need a new 'water guide plate' - most likely on the passenger side. If it won't close on tilt either, try a replacement motor 1st, b\ut budget on buying a new cable. HTH. *in the event that you forget, Vanish mousse and a flannel will sort most things.

I was wondering about the thingummy on the righthand of the two camshafts. Could be part of a cam position sensor I suppose. 2.8 24v without VVT then. Cheers!
-
Well, it's a 2.8 based on the info you sent. The bits on the ends of the camshaft look a bit complicated to be fixed timing though. The mystery deepens... :D
-
Bingo! Thanks Dutch! :)
-
Sigh... :help: The reason I'm asking is that I don't know it's history - it was in a box of what was supposed to be 12v bits. So, to summarise: I know it's a 24v head from a VW 6-cylinder engine, but I don't know which one. I have put up some pictures of what seems to be its main recognition points in the hope that someone who knows might be able to help... :?
-
Define 'decent' ??? :)
-
Same part number for the casting on several engines it seems, plus the valve gear differs by engine code. If someone who's taken one apart would care to take a look?
-
No one? I'd actually like to find out...
-
Which 24v engine is this head from?

I was wondering what you meant by "splices"... On the top of the Koni's, there should be the spring, a broad cone-shaped alloy top plate, the top bearing, a big nut, and the rubber top mount (all under the mounting point on the inner wing), plus a concave steel plate and another big nut in the engine bay.

Splices??? Can you post some pictures please?
-
'Might' be the selector mechanism... :(
-
The linkage is by cable, which either work fine or are broken. If you're having trouble shifting, it's more likely to be the adjustment of the cables, or bushes on the gear lever mechanism that are the problem (all of which can be caused/made much worse) by a worn gearbox mount. HTH
-
A question for those who have them - what effect did they have on the handling?
-
Sounds like the cable for the flap that directs air to the windscreen is bent, plus the lever on the flap may have jumped a few teeth.
-
So not a Corrado wing, or???
-
Roofs that don't move on the switch (or stop in the wrong place) are likely need a new motor, but try lubing the mechanism 1st. If you've taken the roof casette out of the car, take the roof panel off (4 spline drive bolts) and then the mechanisms just slide out the rear of the rails (having removed the plastic bung at the end (always refit this unless you want a water leak).
