  1. Check the splined bolts to the gearbox too Andy, you never know.
  2. I have a cracking garage i use for jobs i cant do or dont have time to do, they completely respect the condition of all our cars and the mot is a joy for them to do they say and are happy to do the mot's while we wait too so no drop off & come back scenarios. Also had my VR in to a new place i'd not used before and spoke to them on the phone briefly and they were so attentative it was unreal, they even worked after hours to get the alignment done as they wanted what they called quiet time on it rather than doing it as part of their busy daily schedule. As said it's often the luck of the draw but there are still mechanics out there that actually give a damn. :)
  3. lol! funny thread you guys man, you guys :)
  4. I'll try it on the daily first and see :)
  5. Agree mate, i'd actually like to try coilies set at a standard height to see how they are but also wondering if it's still possible for them to be as good as a standard set up when wound that high kinda thing. Indeed we all have opinions and mine are probably more diverse than anyone's wanting to be completely standard. Not that i'm against modding in the slightest by the way it's just the way I roll Literally lol! :)
  6. Ah just heard a few people actually buffing them to remove swirl marks etc. they are very clean just look a bit naff when the sun comes out with all the hazey marks on them.
  7. Hopefully Goldie with his Silver one surely. Michael???? lol!
  8. if you work the fluid through by steering it left to right with the wheels off the ground that primes it up ok, i did this with the cap off too. This is with the engine switched off BTW. Then when confident the fluid has run into it ok fire it up as said in pm last week and keep it working left to right on full lock again with the cap off and watch the bubbles come out then once happy put cap back on, a good few drives round and round an empty supermarket car park and Roberts yer mothers brother ;) Keep an eye on the level for a few drives after too.
  9. lol! the comeback Kid :) Good look chap.
  10. Some good info chaps, what would anyone recommend for smartening up the rear lights? i have a DA and quite a few Menzerna polishes like super finish & final finish etc would these buff them up a little and what speed would you recommend as dont want to make a mess of them with them being plastic. thanks!
  11. Bit of a rush this morning but if you want standard dampers i'm not sure of availability of original from VW anymore, springs may still be available as are all the bolt on bits ie top mounts bushes washers etc. Only use VW top mounts and bearings as they are proven to last way longer than others. A good choice of OE style dampers would be Bilstein B4's I have these on my 8v with standard springs and the ride is Awsome, especially over country roads. I recently removed koni top adjustables for standard VW ones as i wanted to go completely factory spec, the ride with the konis was excellent as you could tweak the fronts a little to firm them up so i'd definitely consider that option too. I know the VR rolls a little bit more with standard springs but if you are wanting a good ride with comfort and good all round drivability i think you could do a lot worse. I really cant comment on what coilovers are like when wound quite high but i'd expect them to be not as good if wound up to a standard looking ride height. I dont suspect many have actually done that before either. I didn't mean to sound too harsh daleyboy, but trust me a ride in mine would change your opinion :) it's just superb for general driving and heavily loaded boots lol!
  12. Oooooh! Hope the pump survives as once mine was off it packed in lol!
  13. Afraid you are talking complete rubbish here chap, have you ever driven a VR6 with ALL new suspension, i'm guessing not. They were built like they were for a reason and didn't spend years developing the suspension just for a short term fix, having just refurbished my whole underneath including every single nut, bolt, bush, clip, clamp, bracket, driveshafts, I will tell you now it handles sublimely and cruises along like something far more luxurious. Yes it rolls a little on corners but the op isn't after a track car ride. Welcome to a drive in it anytime i see you ;)
  14. There's a small hole in the mesh grill section where the towing eye covers are for the sensor. right at the far end.
  15. No point wroth the WD40 as it won't get anywhere near the threads on the bolts. They will come out ok I'm sure but use a 6 sided socket rather than a splined one as rounding these off will certainly spoil your day. Always available if you need answers to questions Chris having just done it ALL :-)
  16. All tracked up & aligned now so looking forward to it and a few beers with Joby & Ron :-)
  17. Friday Sat Sunday Darren ;) Taking the black un out in this weather Eeeeek!
  18. Ah Ok Abdul, thanks for letting us know. ;)
  19. Another good dealing here. Twice now with a long time in between and good both times.
  20. When i was stripping the rear seats out of the Nugget before it went to the body shop i found an old 10p piece and a Slush Puppy Sticker  definitely an 80's car.
