Right managed to finally get this started. so far ive feathered the edges of the peel and put 4-5 coats of laquer on. But its a very dull, rough finish... will this be ok once i get some cutting compound on it? sorry Ryan i forgot to get some pics of the peel. To be honet you can still see the patches now, but at least the paintwork is now sealed and not open to the elements. Still as long as it lasts until i can get a front end respray done.

rubbed down the laquer peel on the bonnet and gave it a few coats of laquer. need to rub it down with wet and dry then polish it up. -
is it leaking though and not just back pressure causing it to overflow from the header? Air lock?

gearbox could be just a new clutch though. depends really if you need the car as a daily. if not and there's room for you to work, then take it off the road and do it gradually. failing that asa last resort id say sell it as a non runner. Im sure some of the helpful chaps, maybe ones in this thread ;) would offer to help to carry out the work with you and you can learn how to do it. i can hold a spanner and can do certain jobs - never done a HG before so i can appreciate how daunting it sounds. but once youve done it for the first time you'll have more confidence and knowledge. -
lol @ corrado sunderland hhaha... classic answer. Id say use that as a secondary option though and do as whats been said and speak to the parents - explaining calmly. going in all guns blazing wont help the situation at all tbh.

You havent moved to Crossgates/colton area have you Lucas? Seen a Corrado thats new to me parked in a drive there.
-
Really, thats odd. In that case i stand corrected. i thought 16 pin was obd2 only and no corrado came wit obd2
-
no probs. Come back if youre still having trouble. VAGCOM can be a bugger to get working, it seems random sometimes.
-
Got this issue, was told it will be the damper. Not tried it yet though. Also mine has been scanned and has no faults. Will be watching this thread.

Yes under the gear stick - all Corrados are OBDI, so there will be a 2x2 (black and white) connector. The 2x2 (black and white) adapter will be needed to convert the OBDII 16 pin connection to ODBI. Its, as you've said, is an adapter for the interface OBDII cable. Plug the OBDI adaptor into the OBDII cable and plug the 2x2 adapter into the car under the gear stick. Also if you have trouble scanning the ABS you'll have to change one of the USB settings (cant remember which one, do a search it's been covered before), also ive found i can only get hte cable ever to work on one of hte USB ports (COM 3), dunno why. Also before you can scan, plug the cable into the comp and car and go to options in vagcom, you'll have to get vagcom to detect the cable each time (doesnt save for some reason)

vagcom works fine on win 7. Go to http://www.ross-tech.com you can get it there, i use 303-1. you'll also need one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=vw+vagcom+cable&_sacat=0&_odkw=vw+cable&_osacat=0 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=vw+vagcom+cable+2x2+adapter&LH_PrefLoc=2&_arm=1&_armm=63&_ruu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3Dvw%2Bvagcom%2Bcable%2B2x2%2Badapter%26_arr%3D1&LH_AvailTo=3

Thanks for the tips martin. Though as JoeBloggs said ive found kept in garage as expensive if not more. Same applies for TPF&T compared to Comp. Ive found TPF&T to be slightly more expensive, not always by much but still more than the fully comp. Not sure why that would be the case though as you're covered for less as you say.

Help. Windscreen wiper arm won't stay on! Popping off!
Critical_Mass replied to Crispy Squirrel's topic in Engine Bay
Is this the short arm that joins the motor and drivers arm? They ball joints wear over time and get slightly bigger. Best to replace... if it is the one i think it is its only £12 from VW. -

How long has it been since you applied it Chris? I agree it doesnt seem cheap, BUT if it does last 6-12 months and really does stop brake dust and dirt from attaching to the wheel then i think it'll be worth it. I used poorboys wheel sealant before that and it was ok, but tar and some dirt spots still managed to "stain" the wheel. Which has washed off put took some elbow grease. Plus the wax needs applying once a month for it to be really effective - i cant be bothered with that. -

Applied some gtechniq C5 to the wheels. Will see how it copes with the muck off the roads. Not the easiest thing to apply as you cant see where youve done it and havent. -
Id replace the bottom bolts, that hold the strut to the trailing arm whilst you're at itt. They don't cost much.
-
the only issue ive come across is getting the rear axle to drop far enough so when taking the drivers side lower strut bolt out, it clears the fuel tank.

no that was for 5 litres to be fair and yes its annoying that the vr is 5.5 litres  I put fully synthetic in as its a refurb vege engine and has always had fully synthetic in. though i agree david if it was the original engine it would just have semi synth in it. ---------- Post added at 8:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 8:33 PM ---------- reading back ben where did someone say they could get 2 x 5litres for £35... not having a go, just curious as thats a good price, if the oil is good and if its semi or full synthetic cheers
-
That seems expensive even if it is dealer price. I can get synta "gold" fully synthetic (equivalent) for £28.

if it coming from behind the headlight switch area and sounds like a relay, it probably is a relay. Take the fuse box shelf out and see if you can hear it better.
-
Yup as above, got one myself also.
-
it almost certainly be the elbow ben. when you take it out you may find the bit that fits inside the rad has crumbles and the O ring has perished. infact looking at the first pic you an see it coming out between the rad and the elbow
