  1. My dad is always saying "whats wrong with the car now"
  2. Good stuff mate. Situations like that are rewarding when you manage to get what seems to be an expensive problem fixed with a simple solution. Saved you 1K! :D I remember when i first got my VR and the ABS light didnt come on at all, i thought i was looking at 1k for the ABS ECU (WTF!!). Turned out the the bulb and the little circuit board just needed replacing. :D
  3. Well like i said with fuel the VR isnt much (if at all) worse then either of the valvers on fuel. But they are easier to maintain. These days you prob will spend more to buy a G60 over a VR as their rarer. I think the handling comment was more aimed at the valvers and VR. With the VR being heavier up front the valvers are supposed to be more nimble through the corners. Dont know if you'd truely notice. i mean i had my G60 just before my VR and i cant say i remember ever thinking the VR was heavier and lazier through the corners. Also the VR is group 18 insurance and the valvers are group 16 - i THINK! Goign on you 2k budget id say a valver would be you best bet.
  4. I think they are the choices really - either keep it and drive it or sell it and let someone else enjoy it. :D
  5. Ive got to agree with Tony, for me a car is meant to be driven. I dont have a problem with using the C as a daily, i couldnt wait all week to drive it at the weekend, id want to use it everyday. I try not to worry about putting wear on parts or dings (though again i try to avoid getting them). It doesnt bother me that somethings worn out or needs replacing as a result of using the car, rather that then something perishing when its not even been used. I suppose the advantage of having 2 cars or using the C for a weekend car is, if it does let you down you know you can always jump into the other car, where as for me usign it as a daily then if it lets me down it can leave me with a bit of a problem.
  6. Yeah the VR is the one to go for. The G60 is a nice engine (ex owner) but the VR is where its all at. You did ask what the difference between the VR and the 1.8 and i dont think its been said. You have the 1.8 16v as Jim said , reliable, not sure what its like to drive as ive never had one. Then there's the 1.8 G60. Again 1.8 engine with a G60 supercharger on it. Nice car to drive, cheap to mod to get the power up. But harder to find. The supercharger needs servicing at intervals. Then there's the 2.0 16v again not driven one so cant telp you much with it. I believe the 2.0 litre 16v has more torque but hopefully someone will elaborate on the 1.8 and 2.0. There's the 2.0 8v, which was my first Corrado. Loved it to bits, lacked power but made up for it in MPG. It is the slowest of the lot and with only 214 made originally maybe hard to find. All the above are all 4 pot engines. Then finally there's the VR6, which is VWs own 2.9 V 6 engine. Guzzles fuel abit but its goes like stink and sounds gorgeous. Though its more expensive to get more power out of. By the way the fuel consumption of the VR isnt much higher then the 1.8 and 2.0 16vs so ive read. The choice is yours!!!
  7. Nice work mate. The wheels have come up nice. 8) though the tyre profile is a little large, needs to be 45 ideally.
  8. Good man! Glad you enjoyed it! :D

Sorry i was just suggesting to keep an eye on ebay.
  10. ignore my message above, thats water not oil.
  11. Dont see many inca blues about. Think it was an early, mainly G60 colour. My old G60 was inca and dont think anyone else had one. But i prefer any of the dark colours, to be honest i think the rado looks better in a dark colour. The only exception for me is the satin silver.

i had a nice chrome Supercharged badge, never got chance to fit it to my G60 before some c-unit write it off. I got it on ebay.
  13. Kev, he doesnt need anymore convincing he'll be out ragging it down the road later.
  14. and they'd be right  now if you'd have got a VR....
  15. Yeah the VR engine is ticky when cold, but you should notice if the chains need doing - sound like marbles in a tin apparently. Get the car up to temp by taking it for a good drive see that it pulls right., if possible take the spark plugs out and check the condition of them particularly cylinders 1 and 6!! if its burning oil they'll show it. WHich could turn out to be valve stem seals or worse bore wear. Look through the receipts and see if any work has been done - even if the owner says it has, without a reciept there's no real proof. EDIT - sorry just seen what youve put about the chains etc. if you're thinking of changing them anyway no probs. Still i would check for burning oil as if its the valve stem seals that are leaking oil into the cylinder you may as well get this done when you do the chains. Bore wear on the other hand would need more drastic action of getting the cylinders bored out and larger pistons.
  16. Yeah after changing my rad ive noticed the car runs cooler :D Its probably wise to get it hooked up to vagcom first and see what the ECU is reading from the blue temp sensor, comparing it to the gauge on the dash. It could be the blue temp sensor is duff or the (yellow i think) that feeds the dash is faulty.
  17. As Mr Blassberg said, 112 isnt that high. It had been hot recently. I wouldnt be rushing to do anything - no need to. My VR never runs at 94 its always closer to the 100 mark. Maybe up to 112 if its on a spirited run.
  18. No never heard the term. My car gets a good run regularly anyway so ive been doing it all along. :D
  19. had to google this to know what it even was  Can this really benefit the car?
  20. Yeah i agree, there's always a row a nice looking women at the front. Whilst I (5ft 5 me) will be at the back being able to see fck all
